This may just be a q-winkie-dense but I slept much longer lastnight - a whole seven hours compared to the four or five I usually manage. If oil-pulling aides sleep then I'm going to be a fan for life!
How much of the Sunflower oil will you use tomorrow? I was wondering if that will break down faster than the CO.... where it feels like you are just pulling saliva versus the oil..

OK, as for my jaws hurting...not so sure it's even the jaws as much as under my jaws, if that makes any since. It's those muscles I never use. Anyhow, maybe I'm doing it wrong, if that's even possible. I'll work on different techniques.

Hey that might be a good thing - keep those neck muscles nice and tight! I'll try that tomorrow and let you know...

Good morning everyone ..... any more updates?

I just read on another thread that you are not suppose to brush/floss prior to oil pulling. Any thoughts on this?

Still swishing my CO. 1 T. for 20 min. No problems at all! And my teeth seem so much whiter See?? Next time I go to the store I will look for sunflower or safflower oil and see how that works, but so far I am happy with the CO. I, too, just swish in and out of teeth, no real jaw movement. Anyone have any comments on the idea that it pulls toxins out? I am intrigued by this and wonder if anyone is noticing any other results besides whiter teeth.

Wannalosit-sleeping longer would be a wonderful side effect!!

erikak-reduced appetite, another wonderful side effect! Would love to find that true for me! I'm only on day 3 so hopefully

So anyhow, I did it without puking and I just told myself it was water. Even after doing it and brushing my teeth my lips still feel oily. Prabaly good to prevent chaps.
Hey! My jaw/under my jaw tongue muscle has been soooo sore too! Pushing and pulling the oil through my teeth was a workout. I don't know if my teeth are close together or what but it was hard to pull the oil through them, though I can feel when it happens. But, I would assume that like any muscle, it'll get stronger and then won't be a big deal. Maybe even give me some facial/chin tightening or something.

Slight threadjack--> So now that you're doing the oil pulling - anyone else seen the thread in the Muscle Matters board for Oil Cleansing? That's on my agenda next!

Good oils & fats: Eat it. Swish it. Clean my skin with it. Slather it all over my body. And still lose weight. Go figure!

Call me vain, but does anyone worry about getting the wrinkles around the mouth from oil pulling? Everytime I do it, I think about it!

Sore Jaws

Just my .02 worth, but this kills my jaws also. The reason for it in my case is I have TMJ so to hold my jaw in any position for too long or clenching my teeth to any degree causes a great deal of tension and soreness in the jaw.

That was my question, too.

Do you all brush your teeth before you swish the oil?

I sure must be doing it wrong because I have no jaw/tongue/cheek pain. I just pull and push the oil through my teeth - makes a squishing sound.

Maybe try relaxing your muscles when pulling/pushing. There should be no need to hold those muscles or clench your jaws....IMHO.

Maybe someone can explain this better than I can.

Thanks for the info. on the Oil Cleansing! I checked it out and plan to try that. Castor Oil and EVOO are on my grocery list!

Thank you!

Just an update.

Today was day three for me & I used sunflower oil for the first time. It's a bit different in velocity but I liked it - better than coconut oil I think for me. Yes, I made it 20 minutes & it seemed much easier to do. Not sure if it was the change of oil or that I'm a bit more experienced now.

I don't brush my teeth or floss until afterwards. I pull oil, drink my coffee (yes, I know that's counter-productive) eat breakfast & then brush & floss.

Okay, this morning when I was swishing I thought it seemed as though I couldn't force it as easily through my teeth as before. Sure enough, when I flossed, most of my teeth felt tighter together???? Can't really explain why but my teeth & gums look super healthy so I'm good with it!

I tried this morning with CO. Gaak - I couldn't even keep it in my mouth long enough for it to melt - Gross.

Is sunflower oil a liquid? Maybe, I could try that.

I think it's supposed to be a food-grade oil, an edible oil, even though it's to be spat out.

Motor oil won't do. Mineral oil, which is what baby oil is, won't do. Gaaaak!

Most definitely DO NOT use baby oil ....... I have yet to find the sesame oil in the health food stores. Therefore I'm still using the CO.

Our health food store carries all oils. I opted for refined sunflower oil. We'll see how it goes.

I swished and pulled for 12 mins then spat it out, while i was swishing it around after a few mins i could feel big chunks of junk?? (i guess) coming out of God knows where!!! I when spat it out i cleaned my mouth, then i flossed/ You should have seen what came out!!!! Btw i had to floss 3, count'em 3 times! But my mouth felt so clean and my teeth looked whiter, brighter after 12 mins!! Oh i used EVOO( organic)

Yes, it is.

At this time of year, my CO is solid, too, at first...but it really doesn't take that long to melt in one's mouth.

Just an update....I'm still pulling every morning - alternating between CO and sunflower oil - and then using the Dr. Bronner's afterwards. At this point, I can only handle ONE DROP of the soap on my brush - any more than that and, no matter HOW much I rinse, it leaves too much of a soap taste in my mouth. Blech! My teeth, however, are feeling the cleanest ever!

I'm OPing for the required 20 min. with sunflower oil (previously did 3 times before with CO, but after reading the actual journal article and found the results were with sunflower oil I opted for that) and afterwards I rinse my mouth with sea salt water and then brush.

Since I never had my wisdom teeth pulled my teeth are so compacted together, I don't see anything but white foam when I spit.
