This sound very intriguing. Just ran out of coconut oil and am off to WF to get more. I think I'll be getting a second container for the bathroom!

How much do you use? do you lightly spread it on your teeth and gums, or do you take a mouthful? Details, please and thank you!

Thanks, ellen. I think I will try CO on my skin tonight and see how I do. My skin will probably thank me!

This morning I used what I had left (about 1 teaspoon) and it felt just like saliva. I ran to the store and got more and used 1 T. and it feels thicker but not like I have a mouth full of oil. I am swishing right now! I just plop the tablespoonful in my mouth and chew until it's melty then start swishing. I will let you know how my second round goes. I hope I don't get too carried away with oil pulling!!!

Argh, for some reason my computer jumped to the end of the thread and it's only now that I see there's info. Got it, and sorry for asking the obvious.

I can barely get through 30 seconds of swishing mouthwash! Maybe if I just brush with the CO?

I've been doing this for about a week. I use castor oil one day, and coconut oil the next. A relative already noticed that my teeth are getting whiter. (Hopefully...someone saying that castor oil is a good pull...wasn't kidding!!! )

Every morning after brushing and flossing (while taking a shower). I can tell a difference already - my teeth seem real smooth - especially the back ones (molars). It's like I just had my teeth cleaned. They are whiter too.

n the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach you take one tablespoon in the mouth but do not swallow it. Move Oil Slowly in the mouth as rinsing or swishing and Dr Karach puts it as ' sip, suck and pull through the teeth' for fifteen to twenty minutes. This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. Swishing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. The oil must not be swallowed, for it has become toxic. As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. If the oil is still yellow, it has not been pulled long enough. It is then spit from the mouth , the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed and mouth must be washed thoroughly. It is important to understand that during the oil-pulling/swishing process one's metabolism is intensified. This leads to improved health. One of the most striking results of this process is the fastening of loose teeth, the elimination of bleeding gums and the visible whitening of the teeth.

The oil pulling /swishing is done best before breakfast. To accelerate the healing process, it can be repeated three times a day, but always before meals on an empty stomach.
Precautions

(a) Do not swallow. The oil should be spat out. But inadvertently if you swallow there is nothing to worry. It will go out through faeces. Nothing is to be done.

(b) If you are allergic to a particular brand of oil, change the brand of oil or oil itself to different oil.

(c) Sunflower and Sesame oil have been found to be equally effective in curing diseases. Other oils were not found to be as good.

First time oil puller checking in!

I tried this today with olive oil. I used 2 teaspoons, and lasted for 5 minutes. Oh boy, I can see why they say not to do it on an empty stomach! I retched a bit, even though my tummy was very empty.

Do you all brush your teeth first? I'm wondering if that would have made me feel less sick. The retching didn't start until I spat though. Nearly enough to put me off forever, but I am a naturally optimistic soul, so I'm hoping tomorrow will be better.

LaRae - A lot of us are using coconut oil and some ARE reporting good results with it. The sunflower and/or sesame oils are what the original article mentioned as being "the best". HTH

I just returned from the health food store and am now the proud owner of a bottle of sunflower oil AND a small bottle of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint "All-in-One" soap (figured if I'm going to be using this in my mouth, it should at least TASTE a bit better than just plain 'ol "soap" - hahaha)

I did the full 20 minutes again this morning....but almost didn't make it past the first minute or two because of my cat! Right after putting the CO in my mouth, I went into my office to feed the fish..... We have a glass lid on the aquarium that George (our cat) likes to sit on to watch them. Before I could get the lid closed....he jumped up on top AND FELL INTO THE TANK!! I almost spewed my CO right then and there! ACK! (Don't think the fish would have appreciated it, either - lol)

However, I managed to maintain my composure and "fish" George out ASAP! The look on his face, tho, was absolutely PRICELESS....and I think it'll be awhile before he tries going up on the tank again...

How are all you doing this? I mean, I just did it for 5 minutes and my jaws were killing me! Call me crazy though but I swear already I could see a difference in my teeth. Yeah, probably crazy.
So anyhow, I did it without puking and I just told myself it was water. Even after doing it and brushing my teeth my lips still feel oily. Prabaly good to prevent chaps.

Five minutes is a good start, miraclemom! My jaws hurt the first couple times I did it, too - not anymore.

Why would your jaws hurt? I just squish it through my teeth - like sucking. I'm not moving my jaws.... Maybe I'm doing it wrong....

Now that is funny! We have two Tonkinese cats (part Siamese and Burmese). The other night I went out on the lanai (screened in pool area) and was just walking around the pool. Our littlest cat - Jenny was running around the pool in the dark and got to close to the edge and her left leg and tail ended up in the pool. I heard a splash and because it was dark outside I couldn't figure out what the noise was from until Jenny ran in the house and started licking her leg and tail.... Too funny! At least she composed herself and got out before the rest of her body was in the 57 degree pool water. Now every time she walks by that spot she slinks by and stares....

With me it's all cheek action, pushing and pulling the oil through my teeth in a locked-jaw position, slightly open, molars not touching and overbite somewhat open so that my bottom teeth do not hit the roof of my mouth. Yeah, my overbite is THAT BAD! What is the talk about jaws hurting? I always swish after brushing. Not for 20mins, to be sure, but just a fast swish to wash out any remaining toothpaste foam.

I too thought that I saw a glistening change in the color of my teeth, after the very first 20min swish and spit. Is it possible? Maybe so. I'd like to think that I shall soon have a blazing white smile that will blind all the folks I've been smiling at with carefully closed lips. Someday!!! Yay!

I did the oil pulling this weekend. I did it with Lou-Ana CO. It wasn't bad at all and my teeth felt really clean!! I think I lasted only a 2 minutes, but it's a start. My 8 yr old saw what I was doing and of course I explained everything to her and she wanted to try it the next night so I let her. She loved it and now she wants to do it everytime she brushes her teeth!!

Oh, I just found out that working my jaw CAN create a swishing action. But I do not work my jaw, just my cheeks, as I do my own oil-pull swishing. Try it as just a fast cheeky swish, with jaws as open as possible in a closed mouth. I can do a left-cheek swish and a right-cheek swish as well as a two-cheek swish. No jaw movement is involved. Sure sounds easier to me.

Thanks for the giggle! Cats! Gotta love 'em! George, btw, is a Siamese "snowshoe" - four white paws! (And now I think he's got a "yellow streak" runnin' down his back, too! )

As for the "jaws hurting", I guess I should clarify that, in my case at least, it was only my UPPER jaw areas that hurt - not a lot, more like a dull ache - the first couple of times I "swished-n-spit", but not since then. Like Zer, ixtapacheryl & others, I'm just "swishin' to the left and a-swishin' to the right".....sounds like a song!
