Just popping in to say I've been oil pulling with sesame oil / CO for about 2 month, 1-2 times daily, and my teeth are absolutely amazing, snow white. I get comments all the time, people insist I had a professional whitening done

How much do you use?
Once it is in your mouth do you suck it through your teeth and if so, how?
You do this for a whole 20 minutes without swallowing? Is that possible?
The whole losing my filling thing has me a little scared because I have several fillings and very bad dental insurance... is there anything in writing about this happening and has it ever happened to anyone here?

Thanks!
Bumping for answers.... PLEASE!!!! PRETTY PLEASE!!!

Do you brush your teeth first or do the oil pulling, then brush? I know you brush afterward, but I wasn't sure about before as well. Also, I am a flosser. Do I still need to floss as well?

Again, thanks for your help! My DH is interested in doing this as well!
This was the one that I wanted to bump! I promise not to ask any more questions!

Something I read said best to brush BEFORE AND AFTER. See my BLOG, if you like, for bits I've gathered to better understand this "Oil Pulling" oral exercise.

As for flossing, the best advice I've heard is to floss only those teeth you want to preserve. Need I say more?

What results have you see (gums) and has your dental hyg. noticed a big difference?

I have noticed that staying on the LC WOE has made a difference in my teeth. The last time I went to the dentist she said I had no plaque and my gums were in great shape.

I did it this morning for the first time (20 minutes). My husband was wondering why I wasn't talking and I would just grunt at him when asked a question Best 20 minutes he had all day. When I told him - he couldn't believe it.

I did not use a tablespoon - just a teaspoon. I don't think I could keep that much in my mouth along with the saliva. It was white when I spit it out. I did brush and floss prior to doing it and then I also brushed after and rinsed. I'm sure my teeth/gums will just be better from all the duplicate brushing.

I go to the dentist every 3 months for a cleaning because I'm a nut on teeth. Will let you know the comments I receive after my next visit.

He asked me why I don't do it in the evening when he's watching tv. I guess I annoy him while he's trying to watch. I think I'll do it while he's watching football and really make a lot of noise while pulling....

Just did my first oil pulling. To echo what everyone else has said, no, it really isn't bad at all!

I'm excited to see the progress and results of my fellow newbies on this.

***Warning--do not oil poll while reading the boards!***

I'm sitting here, reading this thread and decided I wanted to oil pull. I'm swishing it around in my mouth and trying not to spit it out all over my screen from laughing at all the silly stories.

I did it for 20 minutes this morning. I brushed, flossed and did the oil-pulling, then brushed again. My mouth does feel great, alsthough my jaws are a little sore!

Now I just have to find some tooth soap!

Tooth soap? Dr.Bronner's Magic Soap!

Dr.Bronner's Magic Peppermint soap works nicely - from shampoo foam to a clean mouth! Great stuff!

Zer, I haven't been to the store to look for it yet. I live about 45 minutes from the city so I don't make too many trips into town. Does Wal-Mart carry it?

Start swishing and your saliva will dilute the oiliness that made the roof of my mouth feel as if I had lard all over it. Yucky feeling. Keep swishing. I keep a jar handy, in case I start to swallow (yech!) or gag (texture is so big for Aspies that I fight that lardy-feel for the first few minutes of swishing). It's worth the struggle. Lots more info at My first try at oil pulling for those who want to know more. I've pulled some data into my BLOG, as I wanted to know why 20mins? and other specifics. Happy to have you visit my BLOG and add your comments to what is happening there!

OK, I thought I would try this. I even took some before pictures of my teeth so I could see if I could see a difference in a few weeks. I tried Canola oil, I don't yet have coconut or I would try that. I didn't think I would have a problem at all. I can eat a pad of butter with no problems. I was wrong, I instantly started to gag & thought I was going to throw up. I actually tried it a second time & got a couple swishes in, but same thing. I might try again with coconut oil, but otherwise I guess I will stick to brushing or white strips. I really wanted to do this. I told my son & he wants to try. He has a clean teeth fetish. I am not going to tell him I gaged, I will let him try it to see how he tolerates it.

Got done doing it just a bit ago.. it gets much easier and taste isn't as bad soon as all the 'paste' is melted into an oil. Afterwards mouth does feel cleaner and the coconut has a nice after taste :P

Just finished....only lasted 8 minutes but that's more because DH came home and wanted to know why I wasn't answering him...and then proceeded to make up his own answers, which made me start to giggle...."Thanks, Babe!" lol

I didn't have any problems with gagging (thank goodness) but then again I have been known to eat a spoonful of CO straight from the jar here and there. I'll keep at it and slowly work up my time.

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread!

I did it yesterday and today. I felt a little silly, because I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I didn't feel nauseous either, and did it for quite awhile...about 15 mins.

If anything, I'd like for it to cleanse my mouth better.
