Well, did my first try yesterday when I got home from work whilst I had my shower, and I managed a full 20 minutes without problems. The VCO is nice, a slight coconutty taste, and a bit weird and lumpy in the beginning, but generally easy to do. My teeth felt wonderfully clean and smooth after that first time already! I'll check back in a week to let you know how things are progressing!

Tried this for the first time today....I will keep doing it daily to see how it goes. I used coconut oil and next time I will melt it before starting instead of the chunk in my mouth. The twenty minutes went fast for me! I just need to be sure I do it when DH and DS are gone because they will try to make me laugh and spit it out all over!

Go Linda! Be sure to pay attention to how clean your mouth still feels tonight.. I can tell such a difference when I dont do it, as to when I do, but the late afternoon...

I do floss everyday, and I've got a Braun electrical toothbrush that seems to have helped the situation too. It's just with the oil pulling that I've had no bleeding even when flossing!

If you want to look into it, try and find a mouthwash with halyuronic acid (sp) it works wonders, also when you have ulcers!

I've used a Cybersonic tootebrush for almost 9-10 years now, so I know it's getting the job done in that respect...

Actually, the bleeding seems to be a little worse than before I went back to pulling.. Maybe it's the thing with getting worse, befroe it gets better, going on..

ANd BTW, it's not like like my gums bleed a lot...LOL Thye've always done it. The dentist says there's no reason.. Whatever... I read some place it was a lack of some vitamin, {I think} but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was... And with all I take, I can't see that being the cause... I've pretty much got everything covered..

You could try a high dosage CoQ10 supplement. That helps really well with gum health. Also good against ageing, so even if it doesn't help your gums, you never know, it may help with other things!
I take it on and off, and have noticed more plump skin in my face after about a month...

I have been inspired by this thread and started oil pulling about three weeks ago. I use sunflower oil and usually pull for 20 minutes, sometimes only 5 mins as I am doing it for the oral benefits. My teeth feel clean almost all the time, my gums rarely bleed when I floss now and I think the brown stains on some of my teeth are fading. I also think they are looking whiter...but this is very subjective! I'll know for sure when people starting asking me about my white teeth!
I can't quite believe I am doing this, I was so revolted at the thought of swishing oil around , but my lovely teeth have convinced me to keep on going. I did have problems a couple of times, I had a cough/gag reaction, accidently swallowed some and instantly barfed. Over time it has got easier and I love the lack of blood when I floss!

Sounds good, let us know when people do start asking about your teeth.

I'm sorry if th8iss has been asked before but I cannot read through 9 more pages just to find out if it has been asked.

Any effect on fillings and crowns?
There have been rumors that it hurts root canaled teeth as well.

TIA!

DH and I are still oil pulling, but I've seen no change in the whiteness of my teeth. We use the Nutiva Coconut Oil and do it for twenty minutes.

Do any of you worry about getting lines around your mouth when pulling? Call me vain, but I worry about that!

bad stains

ixtapacheryl & Rocky

I was wondering.... the crowns?? Has oil pulling helped my those whiter too or only natural teeth?

I asked because:
I have a what I call a "built up" tooth at the top front, top half is a whats left of a real tooth (bottom 1/2 was knocked out in a car accident yrs ago). No cap.
Of course its badly stained from smoking /tea/coffee over the yrs,
The dentist said it would cost $2000. to replace, which there is no way I can afford to do.

I was wondering if you both think oil pulling "might" help remove the stains???

Hi Laurie..

I wish I could help with your question, but I don't have any crowns or anything like that. My teeth are all still just how they came in...

Cheryl?

**Please don't take this as true, but.. I want to say I did read somewhere, where someone posted that the OP was getting the stains from their crowns. Like I said, I'm not positive I read that, but I *think* I did...

Just wanted to say Thanks Rocky.
I "thought" I'd seen that here somewhere too, but don't recall exactly.

Thanks again.

On one of my front teeth I have a "filling" (in the corner of it). I think you call it an "eye" tooth or something. Anyways, I had, had the filling when I was about 12. Over years it had darkened and had gotten stained (I am a smoker and a coffee drinker). Anyways, a few years ago I had it replaced. Now with smoking and coffee, that should have stained again, very quickly and would have been noticeable if I tried to whiten the rest of my teeth.

Funny, I didn't think about this until the question was brought up. Anyways, before I had it replaced, I would whiten my teeth and that dang filling would look like the skin off of a kernal of popcorn that got stuck on my tooth (does that make sense). The rest of my teeth would be white and that filling would stand out like something was "stuck" in my teeth. It bothered the heck out of me.

Well, since it has been replaced (a few years ago) and since I have been oil pulling...My teeth are whiter and there is no difference in color with the filling. It's not noticeable at all.

So, I guess it does get the stains off of it.

My crowns weren't stained (upper front 6 teeth), but they have gotten whiter..... I really noticed the disappearance of stain on my bottom teeth in the back of them (not crowned).

I know when I had my crowns put on - my color was the second lightest you can get so probably any little change would be noticeable seeing as how they are so white to begin with.

but always before meals on an empty stomach.
I'm posting my question to a couple of different oil pulling forums for quicker answer so sorry for the repeat, but WHY?

Why must the stomach be empty, is it mostly for the safety of not vomiting, because I have to "work" to vomit, so I think I'm safe from swishing a little oil, Not gross to me.

I want to swish immediately, but I had dinner only an hour ago, I had to wait to eat because I took amino acids, now I don't want to wait till midnight to swish.

So is there any contraindications to pulling on a not empty stomach?

I don't know the answer to that either. I've done it in the middle of the day if I was running late in the morning with no bad side effects. Maybe they suggest that so you'd be less likely to up-chuck. I never had a problem eating and then OPing.
