Marsha- I am glad you like it!!
MG- Glad to see you back! At least you didn't get run over by the wagon, you just put a foot off it And I actually saw DC Talk a looong time ago in concert at my YFC lock-in, it was really good concert! Thank you again to everyone being so supportive of the military, it is nice to know people care what ou have to deal with ![]() So, I am so hungry for some reason..could it be I just spent an hour making Valentine's bags, with lollipops, chocolate, nerds, etc in them and didn't eat any of it!! The smells of the candy made my mouth water though I tried drinking water to take the craving away, but it's not doing it I think I am going to hit the sack since I can't eat while sleeping![]()

Thanks MG....It's been more of a mental celebration than anything, good feelings. DH has been very supportive with all of this including having my post workout meals ready for me when I get home from the gym. My little guys, well they would love their Mama no matter what size she was...I hope!
Glad to see you're back on the wagon again. ![]() Free...You are a curly head too right? (I think I saw a pic of you with curls) What I want to know is what product do you use to get your hair so shiny and straight? ![]()

Long but interesting article...Hitting a plateau....
There are four primary reasons you hit a plateau:
The first reason you hit a plateau is because your metabolism decreases. While this does not completely stop fat loss, it does slow down fat loss. If you've been cutting calories, especially if you cut them severely, your body adapts by decreasing the metabolic rate. That's sometimes known as the "starvation response" or "Adaptive thermogenesis." The second reason is that you need fewer calories after you lose weight. Calorie needs are directly tied into your body weight. One problem is that after people lose a lot of weight, they tend to keep eating the same way they were eating when they were heavier. So they're feeding a smaller person the way they were when they were a bigger person, but when you're a smaller person, you don't need as many calories, even at rest (your basal metabolic rate is lower). A third reason is that when you move that smaller body, you're not burning as many calories. If you strap on a weighted vest or heavy backpack and go out and hike up a hill, you can tell, obviously, that if you're lugging around extra weight, you're burning more calories. So now can you see why, after you lose weight, you burn fewer calories? The fourth reason is that most people either cheat on their diets or they forget to record part of their food intake. This one requires a little bit of honesty with yourself. Even if you don't do it intentionally and you don't "cheat" per se, unconsciously, we're all terrible at estimating how much food we eat. Some studies have even showed under-reporting calorie intake as much as 50%. In other words, you say, "I'm only eating 1,200 calories a day, but i'm stuck at a plateau!" but you're really eating 1,800 calories a day which doesn't give you much of a deficit. All of these reasons for plateaus get amplified in the later stages of a diet, because biologically speaking, your body is doing everything it possibly can to get you to go off your diet and to get weight to stabilize. After a long period of dieting and after a large weight loss, your body cranks up the appetite, stimulates cravings and tries to trick you into eating more. The leaner you get, the longer you've been dieting and the more aggressively you cut calories, the more your body tends to defend its weight, and hold on to remaining body fat. So it's really common to hit that plateau when you're dieted down and leaner. Usually it's nowhere near as difficult for the overweight person to start losing weight as it is for the lean person to get even more lean. The last 10 lbs is usually a lot harder than the first 10. If you think about it, it's pretty unnatural from a biological perspective to walk around with really low single-digit body fat. It's not beneficial from a survival-of-the-species point of view to have low body fat. So this metabolic adaptation becomes more pronounced the leaner you get. you're also at a higher risk of losing muscle, because extra muscle is not economical when there's a calorie shortage. Having extra muscle is like having an engine that's bigger than you need - It's like a gas guzzler. The ultimate answer to why you plateau, why that last 10 pounds is so hard to lose and why it's hard to break into those single digits is that you were in a calorie deficit but for all of the reasons mentioned above, you're no longer in deficit. The Way To Break The Plateau Then Is To: (1) re-stimulate metabolism and re-set fat-burning and starvation hormones, and (2) re-establish the deficit. (3) KEEP AFTER IT! The question was, "How do I do that? More cardio, more weight training, manipulate my diet?" You could do all of the above. Eating less or exercising more can both increase a deficit. But one thing you might want to do first, is give yourself a little break. Take your calories up to maintenance level, maybe for a week. The idea there is not to try to accelerate fat loss, because what you're actually doing is removing your calorie deficit for a short period of time. What you're trying to do is facilitate the fat loss when you jump back into it. It gives your body a physiological break from the stress of dieting; it resets some of those starvation hormones and stimulates your metabolism so when you go back to the calorie deficit, your body responds again. You also get mental break from the diet as well, which makes it easier to stick with the program when you go back to it. You could also use a calorie cycling approach, to help prevent yourself from hitting another plateau, and we already covered calorie and carb cycling in the last call. I also recommend, because so many people underestimate how much they eat, don't take any chances. Count your calories, or at least become really aware of the portion sizes and maybe even consider keeping a journal. You've probably been told many times by a lot of different "experts" that you don't have to count calories. But when you're in a plateau, I'd recommend that you stop guessing and really get serious about what you're taking in. Then what you need to do is reestablish that calorie deficit using every tool at your disposal. Use nutrition by pulling back your portion sizes. Or use cardio. And by increased cardio, I mean increasing energy expenditure. You could increase your frequency. You could increase your duration. But increasing energy expenditure is not necessarily doing longer workouts, just burning more calories. You could also take the same amount of time that you're spending right now and increase your intensity. The whole idea is just burn more calories and stimulate metabolism, which gives you your deficit back again or you can pull back your food intake and give yourself a deficit again from the food side. There's more than one way to do it and I don't think that you should lock yourself in. Use all of the variables and remember that there are TWO sides to the energy balance equation, not one."

Chic - FANTASTIC and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! ![]() I am amazed and proud of what you have accomplished in such a short time. KUTGW!!!! You will be at goal before you know it. Also, thank you for all your encouragement for the rest of us. You are a true warrior of the fat and bulge!!! ![]() Free - I lost a shoe size too, went from a 13w to a 12m Marsha - I have not made spaghetti squash myself by my aunt does. She usually does it with tomato sauce or garlic and olive oil (sometimes she will add smoked bacon too) Trish - Eggplant can cooked like veal parmagain, sliced thin and layered like lasanga. Another great veggie to use in place of spaghetti is thinnly shaved strips of zucchini or summer squash. Phil - Down right amazing at the resemblence. I share your attitude - tell like it is regardless in order to stay true to yourself. Has anyone seen or heard from Lisa, she's AWOL. We want her BACK!!! MG - Supporting a friend is the best time to fall of the wagon, but IT'S A GOOD THING THAT YOU JUMPED BACK ON, Or I would have sent the POSSE out after you. Michelle - sorry to hear about your DD. Poor thing, been there had that. To everyone else that my scattered tired brain has forgot to mention above, Hugs and Prayers and best wishes for a visit from the Woosh Fairies.

To everyone that is in the military, has family in the military or retired military:
THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU SACRIFICE ON A DAILY BASIS!!!!! My Dad was Air Force from end of Korea to beginning of 'Nam. My niece by marriage is in Air Force now having done 4 tours in Iraq. I have several other family members past and present in most branches of the service. My Mother came from WWII Berlin Germany so I know what the effects of PTSD can do to a family. GOD BLESS THOSE SERVING AND ESPECIALLY THEIR FAMILIES BACK HOME!!! Not sure if anyone caught on the news last night, but a transport plane carrying Marines back to Pendleton CA, was diverted to Portsmouth, NH. WalMart and a local food establishment (pizza palor?) surprised them at the airport with food and drink and another local business hooked up several phones and allowed free calls to whom and where ever the marines liked. One of the Marines was quoted as saying they never knew Portsmouth existed and was so greatful for the generous support from fellow americans that have never met these marines before. It gives them "warm fuzzy feelings in their stomachs and hearts" that there are still those that UNCONDITIONALLY SUPPORT THE MILITARY!!!!! Last edited by BerlinBear; 02-12-2008 at 01:42 AM.. |

I have a question. I thought I had Borage Oil Capsules, but it turns out that I have Black Currant Seed Oil. (Don't see how I got those two mixed up) Anyway, the pruduct says that that one capsule provides 90mg GLA, 60 mg ALA, and 240mg LA. This isn't what I should take if I want to have GLA, is it?

metqa, you can take those but you will need at least 6 of them. The Borage has a higher gla content, so less caps to take. Thats why we take it. Primrose has gla also but it tends to give bad headaches to some, so overall the Borage is the better value
We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow tonight on top of the ice and snow we got last night. Its going to be an interesting drive home from work in the morning Last edited by kycowgirl; 02-12-2008 at 07:38 AM.. |

Good morning Peeps!!!!!!!!!!
![]() I've got to make this quick, but I'll BBL. Today is hubby's birthday and our 25th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!! Whooo hooooo! We some friends coming over in a little bit and then we plan a laid-back evening with the kids. Trisha: You are ONE beautiful lady. I truly mean that. I'm sorry you feel self-conscious, but honestly, you are really beautiful! Berlin: Your question about my shake. Yes, it is a HUGE amount. I made that shake to kill my HUGE appetite. But since you need smaller portions, I would cut everything in half and then make the shake and only drink your allotted amount. Refrigerate the rest and drink it the next day. I think that would work. I originally started with 2 scoops of whey protein, but have cut back to one. I still drink the 8 cups of liquid since that helps my liquid intake. I do drink lots of liquid through the day too. So, I would just say, cut it down to what works for you! ![]() BTW, I lost 4 pounds of water overnight and I'm at 178 from my falling off the wagon! But, I'm being REALLY good and hope to get back to 176 by the weekend. TTYL!!! Love and hugs! |

ADLMA- I actually buy Ragu(only 2 carbs per serving) alfredo sauce when I can't make it(I do have a toddler and a DH who leaves on a whim
)My list usually includes, but is not limited to ![]() 1-2 Cucumbers 1 bag spinach sweet peppers Cream cheese x4 2 dozen eggs Flax meal Butter Ranch dressing Pork Loin Cabbage Italian Turkey Sausages Cheese(usually Kraft 2% sicne that is what Ds eats too) String Cheese Low sugar Tomato sauce Spaghetti Squash Ground beef Steaks Broccoli Portabello mushrooms(small and large) Tomatoes Mayo Canandian Bacon Turkey bacon Regular thin sliced bacon Jalapenos Mozzarella shredded Lunchmeat(this is for only in a pinch situations) Turkey pepperoni Calorie Countdown milk Whey Protein powder Frozen strawberries, blueberries, rasberries, blackberries Chicken Sazon seasoning(in the hispanic food section) Flank steak Black beans mustard Lindt 85% Dark Chocolate bar Whipping cream Cocoa Ricotta cheese And wow, it' hard to make a list for someone else I usually just stick to outside perimeter of the store and that is safe. I don't use LC fake stuff anymore. I did a LOT of fake stuff the first time around and it didn't help me at all and made me still have cravingsThis time, if I want something sweet, I make myself get up and make something special, that way I enjoy it more AND know what is going into it. Plus, if I "don't feel like making it" then I shouldn't have it anyway ![]() MG- CONGRATULATIONS!!! on your 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY![]() ![]() I am going to be there in only 21 more years That is quite and accomplishment! Even better than weight loss I think!! You are going to be back down to 176 in no time! Mikki- i hope your day of working flies by!! ![]() And now for my yucky news. Well my vertical incision line of my left breast has opened up now. I have had sweats at night but thought nothing of it. I went to the doctor and they think it is infected AGAIN and they are sending me to the surgery clinic now I thought it was all over since November was a horrid time, but I guess not. I am supposed to be there at 1300 and it is 10 til now and DS just fell asleep for nap I guess I will let him nap. This stuff always happens when DH leaves for some reason Really annoying and painful I will check in when I get back and let everyone know what happened. |

Trish - Do be careful doing the work thing! The weather map has it looking bad over KY! Take good care of yourself!
Also, do I recall you posting that once you are off the combo and go back on, it is a 6 week stall for it to get back into one's system? Good luck on the tax thing. We are still waiting on tax info. to come in. Last edited by ADLMA; 02-12-2008 at 10:20 AM.. |
