Good morning all!
Jane: We share our menus and recipes and anything else that will help us all! You'll find this group is very informational and supportive! We're glad that you joined us! Happy New Year youse guys!! ![]() Trisha, I'm not taking fish oil yet (it's snowing, can't get out), but I take quite a bit of flax seed meal. Do you think that helps in addition to the Combo? I usually never stick to the plan, but it doesn't hurt to plan: Breakfast: Whey Protein Shake w/ organic flax seed Lunch: Asian Turkey salad with homemade Oriental dressing w/ stevia Supper: Grilled salmon Roasted Parmesan, garlic broccoli If hungry before bed, another shake. (240 cals, not including the flax, and only 7 carbs)

Hey guys,
I thought I'd post my daily schedule, it's weird, but it helps to write it out. Awakening:Take my Synthroid on an empty tummy and wait at least an hour before eating. Take my fasting blood sugar. After an hour, take 2 Borage Oil and 3 Tonalin CLA with 1 string cheese and water or tea. In about an hour, take Diabetes med -Januvia and diuretic Lasix with my Whey Protein Shake with about a handful of organic flax seeds. Sometime later, when I'm hungry, eat lunch. Usually it's about 3-4 PM. Take my metformin and other meds. Take my blood sugar about 2 hours later. Take my Combo with another string cheese. Drink, drink, drink. When hungry, usually about 8PM, eat supper and take Metformin. Take blood sugar about 2 hours later. IF I'm hungry again and drinking doesn't help, I'll drink another shake w/ flax seeds. That doesn't happen too often, but sometimes I have the hungries. How does that line up with y'all's schedules? |

Here's a recipe I got today in email. Sounds good:
Quick Chicken Gumbo South Beach Diet When the weather outside is cold and frightful, there's nothing better than a bowl of hot soup to warm your soul. This soup fits the bill, and best of all, it's simple to make. Makes 2 servings Description Gumbo is known for being a hearty Southern American stew. Often it's served over rice, but our version doesn't need it — it's thick enough to be eaten on its own, which makes it perfect for Phase 1 dieters. Ingredients 1 skinless, boneless chicken breast 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/8 teaspoon minced garlic 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced small 1/2 green bell pepper, diced small Salt and freshly ground pepper 1/3 cup low-sodium, fat-free chicken broth 1/2 (14 1/2–ounce) can stewed tomatoes 1/2 (10-ounce) package frozen cut okra, thawed 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce 1/2 tablespoon Creole or Cajun seasoning, or to taste 1 teaspoon gumbo filé powder (optional) Instructions 1. Cut raw chicken into strips or cubes. 2. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Sauté garlic, onion, and bell pepper, stirring often, until onion is translucent, about 3 minutes. Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste and add to skillet. Give pan a good shake every now and then to sear chicken on all sides, about 3 to 5 minutes. 3. Add broth, tomatoes with their liquid, and okra. Stir to break up the okra, then cover, reduce heat, and simmer 8 minutes or until everything is heated through and slightly thickened. 4. Stir in hot sauce and Creole or Cajun seasoning. If you want a thicker gumbo, turn off the heat, add the gumbo filé powder (ground sassafras leaves — traditional in Cajun cooking), and stir for another 1 to 2 minutes. If gumbo becomes too thick, thin to taste with additional chicken broth or hot water. Hi!
I went back to work today after being off for Christmas break. It felt good to get back to work AND low carb. I feel real good today. Lots of energy and the feeling of mass amounts of sugar leaving my body. It's strange how the lack of sweets can make you feel so good. I am making my sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast muffins and cooking up some hamburger for tonight and tomorrows lunch. Gotta go for now. Taking measurements tonight! PROMISE! Take care all! Phil |

Here you go... Let me know what you think of them. I love them because I can grab a bag of them in the morning, toss it in the microwave, and go. 1 pg. sausage meat.... I use Jimmy Dean hot sausage 10-12 eggs (beaten) 6 tbsp. whipping cream shredded cheese.....I use enough to cover the mixture but use however much you want. . (1) Cook sausage meat untill crumbly. (2) Spray muffin tins with Pam. (3) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (4) Pour cooked sausage meat into muffin tins, filling to half full. (5) Add whipping cream to beaten egg mixture, stir. (6) Add egg mixture on top of sausage meat to almost full. (7) Add cheese or optional items. (8) Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until done.**25 minutes for mine* (9) Remove from muffin tins and refrigerate. Good for on the run breakfasts or snacks. You can also make this using cooked bacon or ham instead of the sausage meat. I usually make double batch. I let them cool, bag them in zip-loc sandwich bags(2 per bag) and throw them in the fridge untill I leave for work in the morning.

Well, I have pics posted in another thread... but I will post a pic I took this morning with my TIGHT size 18 jeans on.
![]() I think this picture, more than anything else, is what is going to keep me on the straight and narrow path I need to walk in this WOL. This is what 5'9, 222.8 pounds looks like. UGH! ![]() Chest ~ 38 (under breast) Waist ~ 37.5 Hips ~ 49.5 LThigh ~ 29.75 RThigh ~ 29.50 Although weighing and measuring every week, I will only take pics once a month. I don't think a week to week photo would show enough of a *visual* change for me. B ~ 1 whole egg, 1 egg white scrambled in 1T butter w/1 oz cheese, 1 sausage patty. L ~ Vienna Beef hot dog (no bun) with pickles, tomato, cucumber, onion & mustard. D ~ 100g Gyro meat w/20g feta cheese, 20g tzatziki sauce, 166g steamed broccoli w/2T butter. S ~ Vanilla protein powder shake.

Hi all !! I love the receipes that some are posting, they sound delicious. It would be so nice to get down to 150. I'm a shorty and it looks like I carry more weight than that. I would love to be 150 by Valentines Day. It would be a nice surprise for my boyfriend ! He's very complementary.
I joined a gym by my home, so there is no excuse not to go. I go with a co-worker and his wife. They help me stay gung-ho. I used some blue-emu creme for my sore shoulder and it worked. You use it twice a day and it feels great !!!. I don't want to give up my weight lifting !! Now I don't have too. Good Luck to everyone !!! Deanna ![]() |

Good morning, everyone!
![]() Trish - I'm afraid I will not be starting my treadmill walking until next week. I believe this sickness I have has turned into bronchitis and I am coughing and hacking and my poor DH finally asked me to sleep on the recliner at 2 a.m. as he has to get up at 4 a.m. for work. Ugh. I think I will call the doc's office today and see if I can get an appt. Anytime I move around, the coughing starts. I AM going to walk on the treadmill though and be your buddy...just don't give up on me. Ok? ![]() Still taking the combo and other than this cold, I feel great. The sugars have left my body! I swear I peed so much the last two days. (Sorry for TMI?) ![]() Berlin - Great pics! You should be proud of the weight you have lost! You look great...love the avatar! ![]() Deila - You do not look like you are 38" under the breast. In fact, your upper body looks a lot smaller than mine. I guess it is because you are much taller than I am. I'm in 18 jeans, as well. Let's git r' done! ![]() Phil and Mountain - Thanks for the recipes. Yummo. Going to have to try them soon.I made this recipe for lunch yesterday. It is SugarFreeSheila's: Mock Pumpkin Cheesecake (SugarFreeSheila) 9 Total Carbs (7 net carbs) for entire recipe Induction friendly (This is the shortest, simplest recipe in the world. Great way to keep warm on a cold night!) ˝ cup canned pumpkin 1 (3 oz.) cube cream cheese 1/8 tsp. cinnamon 1 packet Splenda (or 1 T. Davinci s/f Vanilla syrup - this is my addition) Heat in microwave 40 seconds and enjoy! ********** I had a dozen hot wings for dinner last evening and some celery with blue cheese dressing. My weight is up .5 this morning, but I know it is from the sodium in the hot sauce so no biggie. I hope everyone has a great day. ![]()

I made my own gyro meat (PICS), which turned out actually pretty good tasting. If you fear making it, you could always find a greek restaurant near you and buy some of their meat. Most of them will sell ya a pound or 2 of meat by itself. BUT BE CAREFUL. On another thread it was discussed that most of the restaurants put bread crumbs into their meat and it can add up to being 2 carbs per OUNCE of meat!. Quote:
![]() I am SOOOOOOO looking forward to putting those size 18's away by St. Patricks Day! At first, my goal was to throw them away... but I think I should keep them to put on when I get smaller and healthier! B ~ Coffee w/HC & SFDavinci, Vanilla Protein shake w/blueberries & 1oz cream cheese. L ~ Smoked sausage & cabbage. D ~ Pork steaks, fried brussel sprouts w/butter & homemade cole slaw. I haven't gotten everything plugged into Fitday yet so I'm not sure how the fat/carb/protein/cals balance out yet. HUGS ~D |

I just measured and got my correct bust size and then added some other body part numbers:
above chest: 36" chest (across center of bust): 44" (I orig. put that I thought it was 41") under chest (bra band area): 36" waist: 36 3/4" (This really makes me sick - used to be a 26" waist in my 30's) belly pooch: 43" (Hey, this went down! Was 44" in Oct.) hips: 47" upper L thigh: 29" mid L thigh: 26" (In Oct. was 26.25) calf: 17.5" ankle: 9 3/4" L mid-arm: 14.5" neck: 14.25" Trish: I didn't think I lost anything from Oct-Dec., but apparently I lost in my belly pooch 1" and 1/4" in my thighs. I thought my belly looked smaller, so I guess I wasn't imagining it. |

Here's a recipe for Sausage Cheese Breakfast Cups I used to make all the time when I was on SBD. I use ground turkey, Italian seasoning & garlic in mine. I usually do the recipe x 4 but not the mushrooms. I also use full fat cheese not reduced fat. My husband really likes these and they heat up well in the microwave. I think I might make a batch this weekend.
Ingredients 4 ounces turkey sausage or ground turkey 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped 1/4 onion, chopped 5 large eggs 1 can (12 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained 1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese Instructions Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat a 6-cup nonstick muffin pan with cooking spray or line with paper baking cups. In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, pepper, and onion for 5 minutes, or until the sausage is no longer pink. Spoon the mixture into a bowl and cool slightly. Stir in the eggs and mushrooms. Evenly divide the mixture among the prepared muffin cups. Sprinkle with the cheese. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the egg is set. Recipe from The South Beach Diet Cookbook. For information on the book, click here. Nutritional Information: 140 calories 9 total fat (3 g sat) 195 mg cholesterol 4 g carbohydrate 12 g protein 1 g fiber 400 mg sodium

Hi Michele
, giving up is not in our vocabulary here, no matter what !!! ![]() work wasnt too bad at first. Felt good getting back, but that cold air did a number on my nose. It felt like someone was jabbing an ice pick between my eyes lol. Hope it feels better tonight. I go back to the doc tomorrow morning to have the teflon stint removed so hopefully it will fell alot better without that in there. I can breath so much better but my head is still stuffed up, weird !!! Gotta go soak in a hot bath right now, be back in a bit |
