Glucofast?
A LC buddy on the GLA/CLA board is using this and likes it. Has anyone else tried it and seen results? If so,
-how long have you used it -what results (# of pounds) is it after a stall etc -are you diabetic ingredients are ok but not novel--but makeup may be more effective. Its suppose to assist with insulin resistance. Its for diabetics and non-diabetics. Last edited by 135Bonnie; 02-19-2006 at 07:10 AM.. |

hey, just popping in to put my .02 cents in!
several years ago, I used to take all the ingredients in the Glucofast separately and I know that they totally work for me! I was under the care of a licensed naturopath and she highly recommended all of them for insulin resistance...together, we were working on different dosages of each supplement to figure out the best synergistic combination. Sadly, she moved her practice to New Zealand and I never found anyone else here I liked as much as her so I started going it on my own. for lots of other reasons, I quit these supplements a while ago and had just recently decided over the holidays to get back on them. what I LOVE about the Glucofast is that all the dosages are figured out for me, done by a licensed pharmacy. and so far, this particular combination of these ingredients has been the best dosage combination for me! I it!!!p.s. my doctor had told me in the past that these supplements grouped together is particularly good for anyone who had trouble with appetite control...personally, that's not something i struggle with but i know others do, so i thought i'd add that in too! ok...i've been taking it for several weeks now...and have been able to add back LC pasta, bread, tortillas, chips, fruit and yogurt on a regular basis with either maintaining/losing over that 3 week period!
previously, i was meat/veggies only with the "occasional" LC grain, fruit, yogurt. if i went just the teeniest over a small amount, i'd gain like crazy! so i how much this glucofast is metabolizing my carbs well, for me! even at this point, if the weight loss goes slower than before, even...it's ok, because I being able to eat well from all the food groups again and I FEEL awesome!(in fact today, i'm going to make lasagne with the new Dreamsfield lasagne noodles (finally!!!) before, that would've sent me into a tailspin and feel like a major "cheat"...but not now! ) |

I have been on it a week--not really seeing the benefits that Amy is but I will keep it up for awhile. Since I stopped GLA/CLA at the same time, I am waiting to see if I stabalize before judging. Today: 152.5, so scale is moving downward--ever so slowly.

Hang in there Bonnie!
could it be that you're not allowing yourself enough carbs? some people lose better with a higher carb range, especially if they're working out...and you sound like you're working out quite a bit! |

well, after much pondering, i decided today to return my Glucofast shipment.
i sat down and calculated how much of each ingredient i'm getting in all my supplements and it turns out, i'm getting plenty of most of the glucofast ingredients already in my other supplements that i don't want to give up and then the glucofast ones that i'm not getting in my other supplements, i can pick up individually a whole lot cheaper on my own. overall...i still think it's an excellent product and a great insulin resistance formula...and if it was the only thing i was taking, i'd stick with it...it'd be worth the money! but for me...it's just smarter economically, since i'm getting a lot of the same ingredient dosages elsewhere...to discontinue. i called and requested a return authorization number and as promised, it was a "hassle free" painless return process...so i haven't lost money over it and now i won't "wonder about it"...so no regrets about trying it! |

I have been reading up on this product and would love to know if anyone is getting results? I wonder if Cutie got such good results because she was taking a "higer dose" with the other supplements with some of the same ingredients

I was curious about this product myself - as it "popped" up when I went to the South Beach Diet website. In terms of eliminating insulin resistance would that mean it would speed up your metabolism? And, IF one already takes a thyroid replacement (Synthroid) - like I do - would it in fact be too much? Or would one just cancel out the other? Any thoughts?

Just a bit of info I found on Guggul, one of the ingredients in Glucofast. While this may not be such an issue for women, men may think twice about taking any product that contains guggul as it acts to block the androgen receptor (the receptor that makes testosterone and other steroids "work") as well as activates the progesterone receptor, giving many people what is basically a menapausal "hotflash.
Additionally, the following was found in one (among many) study of Guggul in the lowering of cholesteron (Source: JAMA. 2003 Aug 13;290(6):765-72.): CONCLUSIONS: Despite plausible mechanisms of action, guggulipid did not appear to improve levels of serum cholesterol over the short term in this population of adults with hypercholesterolemia, and might in fact raise levels of LDL-C. Guggulipid also appeared to cause a dermatologic hypersensitivity reaction in some patients. More recently (Complement Ther Med. 2005 Dec;13(4):279-90. Epub 2005 Sep 23): At this time, there is not enough scientific evidence to support the use of guggul for any medical condition. Guggul may cause stomach discomfort or allergic rash as well as other serious side effects and interactions. It should be avoided in pregnant or breast-feeding women and in children. Safety of use beyond 4 months has not been well studied. Additionally, there is a discussion on the safety of synthetic versus natural Guggul, with the possibility of synthetic being allowed to be marketed as natural. I do not know what product, natural or synthetic, Glucofast contains. I take and have taken many supplements, and I have taken products with Guggul, but I quit the Guggul products after the artificial "hot flashes" and further research on the product. I really do not want to discourage people from taking Glucofast, as it may be a good product, I just wanted to post some info on Guggul, which may or may not be safe, depending on many individual factors and which study you care to believe. |

Thanks for sharing - and doing the research. I went through almost 10 years of hot flashes - don't need to start that up again - so, I guess I've made up my mind. |
