Is L-glutamine safe for children to take as well? A pre-diabetic 8 yr old who is ALWAYS wanting sugar could really benefit from losing the cravings! TIA

Thanks to you who bumped this---again!!! I started on the dlpa and now I can say that this works wonders!! I have been doing the l-glutamine and chromium and didn't notice a difference. I finally got the dlpa and wow!!! What a difference. I finally don't feel like stuffing my face with chocolate. Thank you Deb for even starting this thread!!

I added it in only today!!! But boy am I feeling it. I love it--or actually the combo of all 3. Finally something to tame my tummy into behaving. My eating has gotten my family to even comment---"are you sure you should be eating that???!!" But the stress---oy!!!! Makes me do that.

I took the same supplements today as I posted above, and have had the same results as the first day!! Yeah!! This combo is just like magic. I must be truthful and say that while I still wanted to stuff my face with chocolate, I didn't!! I did start the day off on the wrong foot, but took the supplements and am so stuffed right now I could not eat another bite. I am taking the 4 supplements I listed above (l-glutamine, dlpa, chromium and the 5-Htp) at the times suggested and am having great luck with them. Just trying to get by one day at a time is all.

I've been trying to follow the schedule at the beginning of this post but find I always miss at least one or take it at the wrong time. I am still feeling no cravings to speak of! I haven't weighed because I'm higher than I was a month ago due to a wedding, houseguests for a week, etc so when I see a higher number - I know I will get depressed ... going to wait a few more days. Happy Easter and Passover to all!

Bumping this again. My daughter and I are going to start taking the combo (L-glut., chromium and 5-HTP) as suggested throughout the thread. We'll keep ya posted! One question...does anyone find this helps with alcohol (wine being my sugar of choice) cravings?

In her book, The Diet Cure, she says these supplements are used to help people addicted to alcohol so should help cravings for a glass, too.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me nuts like almonds and pistachios help with cravings. When I want something sweet, a small square of dark (very dark, like 90% cocoa) chocolate helps, also carob is great for the body, relatively low carb and naturally sweet. Last thing is herbal dessert teas. My sister recently got me into tea, especially David's teas (which she sends to me from Winnipeg)- they have a birthday cake flavour, chocolate mint (which tastes awesome) and one that tastes like cinnamon hearts. If you live in Canada, president's choice brand chocolate mint or chocolatey chai is awesome and helps with sweet cravings. For me carb and sugar cravings are always related to candida die-off so what also helps is bentonite clay (to absorb some of the toxins from die-off), epsom salt baths, sitz baths, lots of water and basically anything that helps with die-off symptoms, too. And don't torture yourself- if you watch TV (which can be good, especially if you have brain fog, chronic fatigue or malaise and need distraction) then turn OFF commercials, especially those ones of KFC chicken and fast food... I know that food is junk and not food in any real sense, but it still makes me drool! Lots of tea, dessert tea. And carob if you can handle the slight natural sugars in it. There are also sugar-free gums in dessert flavours (I believe they are sugar free, not a big gum chewer). One of the things I do when I have die off (like now) is research and make lists as a distraction. So give me some time and I will try and compile a list of foods to eat that taste sweet (sort of) but aren't full of sugar and carbs.
