The easiest way that I like to make it is to buy some of those steam bags and slice or cube the squash (no need to peel, just take off the ends) and put in the bag and add some Mrs. Dash original and nuke them. You can just do them plain also, but the spice adds a nice flavor.
Another thing I like to do is add some olive oil to a skillet and put the slices or cubes in there and saute them. It's even better with a couple of green onions or slices of onion, some bell pepper and if you like, a chopped up tomato. I add salt and pepper at the end.
You can use yellow squash just like zucchini in recipes also.
I often grate the squash up and add it to my faux meat loaves and burger patties.
You can slice it thinly and have it raw in salads or us the slices like chips to dip.
You can cut them in thick slices and grill them or oven roast them with olive oil also. The roasting gives them a different flavor.
There are lots of recipes online to make squash casseroles and such, but I haven't ever made any of them.
They are great in homemade vegetable soup...just add them when the soup is nearly done cause they don't need much cooking time.
For the microwave, you could use a microwave pot instead of the steam bags if you have one of those...nuke about 4-5 minutes. I like mine al dente and they have more nutrition that way.
I have also made them into bread and butter pickles...sounds crazy, but they were just as good as the zucchini pickles.
You can also stuff them with brown rice, quinoa, couscous, other minced vegetables, bulger, etc., and then bake them in the oven. You take off the ends and scoop out some of the middle and add the middle to whatever you are stuffing them with and then put the stuffing in the squash and bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes until they are done, but not mushy. I use leftover bell pepper stuffing a lot for mine.
Personally, I prefer the easy nuked way though.

I love the flavor of yellow squash sooo much, I cannot bear to adulterate them with anything but butter .. they taste like sunshine to me.
It's like .. "zucchini .. yah fire ahead and do stuff to it, but keep yer hands off my summer squash," lol!!
