Anyone got a recipe for a Vegetarian "Steak"?
Anyone got a recipe for a Vegetarian "Steak"?
It doesn't have to be LC, just tasty. I tried an Amy's frozen steak dinner and it was delish. It seems to be made with bulgur. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm attempting a few at home with some bulgur, but I'm not sure how they are going to turn out. Okra patties would be good too, if you gals have a recipe to share. |

.. I don't have any recipes for you Nigel .. but depending where you live, I know that the Quorn products available in the states are much more limited than in Ireland .. I do not think that we have much in the way of the "prepared meals" here Rua. I have onbly ever seen the "naked cutlets", breaded chicken-type nugget things, and more plain foods. I think that in the US there are so many veggie burger and soy products that it has been very hard for them to compete.
In the US, for anyone looking, the quorn products are in the frozen case and the packaging is yellow ... P p.s. I would also be very interested in any kind of okra dishes .. patties or otherwise!!!

Thanks Rue and TaDa!. All I have found for Quorn products are the ground and the faux chicken cutlets, plain. I have to drive about 100 miles to the Health food store that sells them cuz I live in a small community. The next time I go there, probably next month, I'll check again to see if they have added any products.
The Amy's frozen dinner steak was really good, but pricey at $5 and I could have easily eaten two of them. It would be great to find some already made. |

I did check the Quorn site online, but no steaks listed. Bummer!! I'll keep trying.
I made one up yesterday but it didn't hold together too well. I might have to add some kind of nut butter or maybe bake them. The taste was okay, but they were just too crumbly. I need a lot more practice. lol |
