Help - counting carbs?!
Hello - I am 26, 5'4, 155 lb, a veggie and want to iddeeallly lose 19 lb in a month - is this realistic?!

I nedd to know!!

I do hard core cardio 4 times a week

I have just started and am kinda following my head (having read lots about the diet) and have just decided not to weigh but to cut out all the bad stuff and generally a day looks like this (actually every day does!!)

Can I have your thoughts of whether I am weigh off and need to start being more strick given my target?

Pint water
2 eggs
2 quorn sausages

Pint water
Stir fry with:
garlic, soy sause and ginger
Salad onion (small amount)
Quorn streak / Quorn chicken

Loads of green herbal tea and water

Pint water

I'm not sure about losing 19 lbs in one month. The average weight loss is generally 1-3 lbs per week.

The hardest thing for me is being patient and not watching the scale.

Your food looks fine as long as you are eating enough. I find that variety helps a lot.

Good luck with this.

thanks nigel - i will remember that! Knew i should have started earlier!

Can i ask a question which im finding hard to answer my self

with carbs - say some thing has 5g per 100g on a packet but 3g fibre - would the net carb value be 2g?!?!?!?

Thank you x

Yes, you subtract the fiber and the sugar alcohols if there are any to get the net carbs.

that is only true in the United States and from your post, Kelly, I assume you are in Europe or somewhere else in the world where the fiber is not added to the carb counts and food packaging is quoted in grams. So if 100 gm portion of food has 5 gm carbs and 3 gm of fiber, you count 5 gm of carbs ... very confusing, I know!!! lol!!!

I know I've seen this before, but one more time - while you were losing your weight, what was your average grams of carbohydrates per day? Did you count fat and protein grams as well?

I am so in awe of your journey - :)

locarblady .. I will answer in two ways ...

I have found I can lose weight at a nice rate on as high as 60 net carbs and 1800 calories (with good appetite suppression, even higher carbs with less apeetite suppression) .. how I found this out .. I will tell you after I say that most of my weight was lost on ~25-30 net carbs, ~1500-1600 calories, and 60-80% Fat.

After a couple of years at 25-30 net carbs, I realized I was having trouble with binge eating. I went up the Atkins carb ladder, added in good healthy carbs (more veggies!!, yogurt, nuts, lowcarb pitas) and found out I lose just as well on that higher carb amount but feel more satisfied and happy eating that amount of healthy carbs.

Kelly, the OP of this thread, was looking for a 19 pound weightloss in a month .. I will say, as Nigel pointed out the 1-3 lb figure, my weightloss, even with over 100 lbs to lose, came out to about 1.5 lbs a week average .. with the exception of my "amazing for me" first-ever month of 10 lb loss ..

Thanks so much - I've been trying to keep it right about 30 carbs, protein anywhere from 45-55 grms. a day and I really haven't kept track of the fat - I add butter to veggies and cream to tea and olive oil to my salads.....hopefully this will work for me as well as it did for you! :)

I hope so too!!!

This is great information, hope you all don't mind me bumping it up.

TaDa, do you still stay at this carb level?

TaDa! 01-25-2012 06:26 AM

I found I can lose weight all the way up to 100 net carbs .. and did so also at 60-75 net carbs at one point.

I currently eat around 50 net carbs - by choice - for appetite suppression only .. but this means I choose to eat certain good vegetarian foods less frequently, specifically legumes / beans (although I do eat peanut butter daily, lol!). I eat a LOT of vegetables, dairy, lowcarb pitas, soy, nuts and peanuts all of which have some carbs (good ones!).

For me carb level seems to be more about the appetite - I take it down further than "necessary" in order to not overeat due to dissatisfaction with the food quantity necessary for weightloss and/or maintenance.

I recently needed to cut back a little to take off two pounds .. I did nothing to my carb level .. I cut out some food quantity (calories by about 200) and the 2 lbs came off - no problem.
