WOE: Low Carb Vegetarian!

I'm vegetarian and new here. Hi everyone!
Hi everyone, I just want to introduce myself. I am vegetarian and 80 lbs overweight. I am 5'9" and I did a low-carb diet about 12 years ago when I was 40 lbs overweight. I lost all the weight and kept it off till I got married, then gained 80 over the course of about two very stressful years, and have never taken it off again. I am ready now, though.. .scared but ready. Food has been a source of comfort for me, so I hope I can navigate this. I am looking forward to support and connection with others. Cheers!

Hi Mira! Not a lot of activity here, but there is some! I was able to take off 100+ doing vegetarian lowcarb. It is very doable -- no matter what anyone on the other boards here might tell you, lol!
if I can help in any way, let me know! since you did lowcarb 12 years ago, there have even been some books published that talk about lc vegetarian now!! Glad you're here with us!!! Pauline |

Pauline, thank you so much for your encouragement! I am officially in INDUCTION today and I feel horrible. I can't remember a day in years where I have not had bread, sugar, etc... and I can't wait till this feeling passes. I went and bought some Atkins Endulge bars to get me through! You're awesome for responding. I have been reading some of your posts. Inspirational!!!

Good job on day 1 ... ugh it is so darn tough! ahahahahah my big mistake was following it to a T and giving up caffeine simultaneously .. if i had it to do over again, I would not have given up coffee until after induction (if I wanted to give it up) .. it was just too much at once for me.
I hope your day passes quickly, lol!!! Pauline |

I don't think I will ever quit caffeine! I was successful last time and kept drinking coffee. I love coffee way too much. I am wondering about sugar alcohols though... how moderate should I be?

sugar alcohols are one of those things that depend on your tolerance of them -- both weight-wise and tummy upset-wise. Some people do metabolize them as carbs .. I think a lot of people do .. probably me too. That is, I can lose weight just fine eating them, but as it turns out, I can eat 50 net carbs and still feel the effects of ketosis, and I can eat 100 net carbs and still lose weight. So when I thought I was doing 20 net carbs including a bar, I may very well have been doing 30 net carbs, yanno ..
I would try to minimize use .. but that said, I ate an atkins morningstart bar (now called daybreak bar) every single day for about 6 years for breakfast and lost all my weight, maintained etc etc etc. I do believe if you use sugar alcohol foods, you should always confine it to once a day so things do not get out of control .. but that's only a personal opinion Have a great day 2!! Hi Mirabai and TaDa! I am also starting today again!!! I noticed that I have gained close to 10 lbs. this past year! Will you believe that mostly was from a vegan diet? Well, I have stopped that and now is starting low carb vegetarian. I will be incorporating lots of eggs for sure! Let's keep posting so we can encourage each other. I weighed in this morning at an all time high of 145.2
Will try to shed at least 10 lbs! I am going back now to read Pauline's advice on all the allowable foods etc. Good luck today! |

Good luck Toogood! I highly recommend New Atkins For A New You for a well-laid out vegetarian or vegan food plan .. Just from past posts Toogood, it might help you to have some "rules" and structure so you can succeed at either vegan or vegetarian lc ..
Just a thought!! |

Okay, day 2 and I weighed in this morning at 143.8. I know it's water weight but I will take it! This was my menu yesterday:
B: 1 veggie sausage with 2 eggs and a slice of cheddar L: Handful of peanuts S: Bunch of raw broccoli with ranch D: Spring mix with hard boiled egg and ranch |

I'm starting induction on Monday after a big dinner at my mums tomorrow
I am 5ft 8in and was always between 112 and 120lb even after 4 children... Then with baby number 5 i had problems through pregnancy and went up to 188lb.. I have managed to get down to 162 but have now stalled. My friend recomended Atkins as she has had such success with it. I'm really looking forward to it xx |

Hi all! I wish there was still in existance this site I found back in 2004... it was called Sparrow's something or another-- it was a vegan and vegetarian weight loss site which was extraordinary. This girl went through the trouble of talking about all the things vegetarians need to limit in order to lose weight and tricks and tips of snacking, cooking in veggie broth instead of oil, etc.
