Will taking Synthroid dose before blood test affect results

I aways take my Synthroid dose first thing in the morning even when having a fasting blood test that day. Will that falsely skew my TSH results? It never occurred to me that it might until I started reading some of the thyroid posts. If so, how much time should I allow between taking my pill and the blood test to keep that from happening? Thank you all.

gosh, I would assume that TSH is a much slower reactor to blood thyroid levels than that, but I don't know. I would be more worried about the T3 and T4 numbers. docs should tell you when to take the meds! can you ask/

My understanding is that Synthroid is one of those that takes a while to build up and get up to the correct amount. My endo says that it takes something like six weeks of consistently taking it to get an accurate read on how it's affecting your body. With that in mind, I don't think taking or skipping it on the morning of your blood draw will make a difference.

I take my meds as I normally do before my blood tests--and I take Cytomel, which is fast acting.

Synthroid (which I also take) should have no effect at all, since once you've taken it for a few months, you're basically just maintaining a consistent level in your blood.

My understanding is that readings aren't skewed by the hormones we take regularly because that's actually what the doctor is testing--i.e., what our levels are with Rx--to determine whether we're at optimal dosage.

IMO, if you have any doubts, check with the doctor who is ordering (and interpreting) the tests.
