In between doctors....will run out of levothyroxine in about....

5 days. We're leaving for 2 weeks. 50 mcg. Guess I'll cut them in half and hope for the best.

I called for a refill....and, they turned it down. I guess sending copies of records means you're done with them, even though I haven't "been approved" at the new doctor. They won't take you unless you have transferred records

Sorry. That's about all you can do I'd think. Also, since T4 lasts awhile, you may be Ok for a little while with a half dose. At least you have Something and not nothing to take. Hopefully you'll get Ok'd quick for a new doctor.

Instead of cutting them in half, would it be better to have a whole one every two days??

Not sure what it's like in the US but we can "owe" scripts to pharmacies for a regular medicine.

Who did you call for the refill--old doctor or new doctor?

I can't imagine a physician who would turn anyone down for thyroid hormones that are so essential. Often you are talking to a receptionist who is just mouthing practice policy whereas the physician would understand the situation. You may want to try again, but this time ask for a 'call back' from the doctor rather than trying to deal with office staff.

If you've made contact with a new doctor but not yet fully 'approved,' I'm sure that physician would continue an existing perscription.

If it's the 'old doctor' who turned you down, you might ask your pharmacist to phone for the refill. Often they know exactly how to approach the doctor's office.

This is not a controlled substance or anything else that would raise a red flag of caution.

Yikes. I hope you can find a way to get this worked out.

I'd hate to waste a good vacation by being without my thyroid meds.
