Almost in tears -

I went yesterday to do my labs - searched on Google for Qwest Diagnostics.. and the one in my little berg when I got there didn't exist.. so I hit the next closest.

I should have left when I noticed there was only one person there who was taking phone calls and doing the labs, but it was already getting late morning and I was getting hungry and didn't want to drive to the other side of Columbus.

The lab tech was not competent, I think. She didn't know how to spell my doc's name.. Garcia.. it took her 35 minutes to get my info into the computer. By this time (after a 20 minute wait) I'm really getting hungry (fasting) and I figure it will be okay.

Then the blood draw.. she didn't hurt me, but I had to tell her to open a new needle after she laid the first one on the arm of the phlebotomy chair!

She took the right vials.. I knew 4 red and 2 purple ones.. but after I left I realized I didn't see her sticker the vials.

I called my doc's office and they don't have pending results.. I don't know, I'm so scared that they are lost or I'll end up getting mixed up with another patient. I am so close to crying now because I want this to go right, I'm so miserable and tired.

augh!

((((hugs)))) Hang in there, ok? It was good to call the doctor's office. Wait a few more days and call back on Monday or Tuesday to check and see. Who knows?! Maybe it'll be ok! Maybe see if your doctor can do bloodwork through another lab next time. The waiting game is soooo hard when you don't feel well.

i know.. I was hoping to get the results back and my appointment for the doc moved up to later this month or early next month.. Now I'm scared they have lost the results or maybe will get them mixed up with someone else. Like a 55 year old guy.

I read your story.. it's such an oddysey to even get someone who will do more than pat us on the head about the thyroid. I'm waiting for the docs to call back, hopefully they find me!

You have to be a squeaky, well-read wheel!! I read someone on here who suggested a website: www.stoptheythyroidmadness.com I went there and it contains a lot of good info. Maybe try there to see what you can do? Best wishes!!

Oh good news! The doctor's office was able to track down my lab order, so I haven't gotten mixed up with someone else or lost at least!

I started visiting the Stop the Thyroid madness a couple of weeks back. Amazing what information is on there that you never hear from the mainstream.

*hugz* Thank you so much, Juliekaboolie!

(bold) That's definitely the understatement of the century. It's so true.

I used Qwest a while ago and it was the same thing....1 tech. Recently I've been to Labcorp which is another system and discovered the very same thing . One tech entering the info into computer, answering phones, and taking patients. It was kind of concerning, but all worked out ok.

Hope you get help from your doctor

I think it's a little frightening that these people are so ill trained and the lab is so understaffed. I may try a different one in Columbus next time, maybe a bigger location will be better staffed.

I am so hoping I get help. I slept 8 hours last night and I'm exhausted this morning still. I drink coffee all the time just to keep going and I don't exercise anymore because it just seems to sap what energy I have.

So good to find people who understand. I told my mom I had gone for tests and was going to see this doctor. She seems to think there's nothing wrong with me because they never found anything wrong with her thyroid.. she's always had a hard time maintaining her weight too, but she doesn't have thinning hair like I do nor the feeling of exhaustion.

I told her there was more to thyroid than the one test the doc usually runs. Not sure she believed me.

I don't think I've ever seen more than 1 tech at the Lab Corp I go to either but then I'm usually the only other person in there. It's fine with me. They're quick and I'm usually out of there in 10 minutes or so.
