Radioactive Iodine Uptake Test?

I made a post earlier about having most hyperthyroid symptoms, yet the blood tests came back normal, so my endocrinologist won't give me medicine to treat the symptoms or have the big, gross-looking mass on my thyroid removed. I'm supposed to get an iodine uptake test, and I was wondering... Will that for sure show that there is something wrong? Or can it be just as inaccurate as the blood tests? If it comes back normal, will that mean there is no way it could be my thyroid giving me problems? I just want SOMETHING to show up, so I can be treated and feel like myself again!!!

I had the RAI uptake test prior to having been treated with the theraputic dose of RAI. If you haven't already had one, an ultrasound is probably in order as well to determine what's going on on your neck.

I basically wrote the same posts a while ago...

Even if your iodine uptake test comes back high your endocrinologist still might not chose to treat you because your blood test are "normal."

In my case, my blood test are within the normal range, but I have a lot of symptoms...my ultrasound shows a lumpy big thyroid. So they tested my antobodies and I show positive for Hashimoto's Disease. The doctor doesn't want to treat because my blood test are in the "normal" range and the treatment has side effects.

So, the doctor sends me for the uptake test. My results are high.
And...the doctor does not want to treat because my blood work is normal and the treatment has too many side effects and she wants to wait until it is worse.

So, my point is not just sharing misery- but just to warn you that your doctor might not treat even if the uptake test comes back high.

So, in my case, I am going to go for another opinion.
A different doctor may treat differently.
