Anyone Taking Nature-throid?

I have an appointment with a different doctor on Thursday, a woman who prescribes Nature-throid.
I found her by calling one of the larger pharmacies in Columbia, South Carolina
and the pharm tech graciously shared her name and number with me.

Currently, I'm only on a starting dose (25 mcg) of Synthroid,
and I'm having thyroid surgery on February 7
(3 cm nodule that may or may not be cancer).

I've read so many horror stories of women who feel worse after thyroid surgery!
That just scares the living daylights out of me!!
One thing most seem to have in common is being under-medicated or given only T4.

I'd really like to get on Nature-throid before my surgery
because I am determined NOT to be one of those horror stories.

So does anyone here take Nature-throid?
Any input ... good or bad?

I read that at one time it was very hard to find.
Has that been resolved?
I was surprised to see it listed on our Caremark prescription plan.

Thanks for any input.
I just pray to God that this woman is not a quack!
Lord knows, I've encountered enough of them over the years!

There are some on our ga thyroid board taking it. I think they too added some cellulose so maybe chew it?

Good luck with your appt and ups
Coming surgery.

I was taking Naturethroid until my pharmacy stopped carrying it and switched me to Armour, which contains the same amounts of T4 and T3 per grain as Naturethroid. They [the pharmacy] told me that the manufacturer stopped making it.

Anyway, I had no problems taking it—just swallowed it whole without needing to chew it, unlike Armour.

I love this new doctor!!!!!

She KNOWS thyroid. I mean really knows thyroid!
I told her I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming!

The appointment went just about as perfect as I could have ever hoped.
She took blood for a full thyroid panel ... all the tests I could never get any other doctor to do.
She'll have the results by Monday.

And it's not Nature-throid she prescribes, it's compounded Armour.
She works very closely with the compounding pharmacy in town
and trusts them completely to give me exactly what I need.
Yet, she admits that Armour may not work for everyone
and she is willing to prescribe whatever works for ME.
She told me though that I have to be patient,
because (as we all know!) finding that exact right dose may take time.
But, she said, we WILL find it!

Plus about 3 months post-op, she wants to do the saliva testing
to have my estrogen, progesterone, etc. compounded for me too.

Seriously, I cried tears of joy as I left and just had to give her a big hug.
I feel so much more optimistic about the surgery now,
knowing that I have someone who will work with me
and WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING!

And she's not an endo, not an ENT ... she's an ob-gyn!
I've been looking for a new gynnie and I think I just found her!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers, you guys.
It just means all the world to me!!

Nature Throid

I just switched to Nature Throid over a month ago and I have never been so miserable. I'm thinking of switching to Armour and if that does not work I'll switch back to Synthroid, I heard so many wonderful things about NT and have been extremely disappointed my temperature today was so low I'm freaking out and I'm tired so much. I went from 3/4 grain to 1-1/4 and not much different. I'm getting labs done next week and if they look good definitely switching. I may also try Thyrolar I've heard nothing but good things and same with NT - seriously I've lost hair and am sore from exercising and I've gained almost 10 pounds. Maybe try Armour and if you don't like it try Nature Throid everyone is different but I'm extremely disappointed.

Pinot- I'm so happy for you that you found such a great doctor! I'm sure this relieves your mind, and since this treatment is for life, we all need a doctor who we trust and with whom we can establish a trusting relationship.

I have an endo like that, but my sister, who is a medical secretary and around a lot of doctors, tells me that the best thyroid doctors she's met are not endos. It makes sense that a good OB/GYN would be good with thyroid because it's a hormone issue--and they deal with hormones all the time.

I've taken nature throid for about 2 yrs now. I love it and feel great. At one time I was up to 4 gr but backed down to 3 1/2. Did great on that. I just had a TT this past Monday for large nodules. Started back on my nature throid Tuesday. Started at 1 grain and will work back up to where I feel good again. You can't dose desiccated thyroid hormones with a synthroid mentality. You have to dose according to symptoms. My doc believes in dosing until a little hyper and then back down.

If anyone has problems with Armour or Nature-throid, try NP Thyroid by Acella.

I used to take Westhroid/Naturethroid before the whole Armour fiasco when there was a shortage of all of them. I have since taken ERFA but had doubts about it being shipped to me from New Zealand. Also took one of the Thailand ones but was super hyper-thyroid from it.

I like NP Thyroid by Acella. Seems close to the old Armour for me. And it's manufactured a few hours away.

Pinot, please give me your doctors name? I'm about an hour from Columbia and I would love to try and get in with her.

Pinot, I would also greatly appreciate this doctor's contact info. I'm a few hours away, but I think I need to see someone who really knows the ins and outs of thyroid issues. Please PM me at your convenience.
