I've had the best luck for prospective um...how to say...state medically insured and Medicare patients from their recommendations. (Now THAT is true advocation...actually conversing with some of these doctors in order to get help for patients who have NO insurance and barely have a place to LIVE, let alone get good thyroid care and the replacement hormones!). So...I see that those who have the wherewithal to get care usually actually seek out docs that do good thyroid but charge like the dickens! Those that cannot afford to even see an MD ...I wish we could start some type of outreach..if I could just get a few docs to give up a few hours...this is why we need NP's and other med. personnel well versed in thyroid!

Sometimes I can actually see them 'cringe' over the phone when I ask "if this patient was a paying patient, and demanded a little T3 for that non existent FT3, I'm betting you'd be picking up the pen to write the Rx. right NOW".

Pam

Hi, popping back in to give a little update.

I'm experiencing depression (sitting in the bathtub and crying -- just not like me) and last night I turned the space heater on and held it beside me in bed to warm myself. We live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It's hot.

I went back to Dr. Gruner to ask for an increase in my Wellbutrin from the 'starter dose' to the full dose. She changed my Rx.

I also told her that my whole body aches and is sore. She said this could be because of not enough T3. Since Dr. B is treating my thyroid now we'll wait until he does lab work in mid-October to see if my T3 is indeed still low (but she suspects it is.)

She said that getting Cytomel added to my T4 med may cure my body aches, but if it doesn't she's going to look at me for fibromyalgia. (She pressed on my body in some places and it hurt -- but I hurt all over so it's not hard to find a sore spot.)

Yah, if it's even 5.5 weeks, I'd want it done now.

It's only been 2 1/2 weeks since I started the T4 (and stopped the lower dose of Armour because he wouldn't write for Armour.) It was on Aug. 26. (It feels SO much longer!)

My lab work is scheduled for Oct. 7 and next appt. to see Dr. B is on Oct. 19.

I feel like this when my Vit D levels drop. Have you had your Vit d levels checked? Wonder if your change in med is affecting this?

I've been low in Vit D for the past three years (that I know of -- I started out at 16) and I've been taking Rx strength 50,000 mg/week to try to get it up. Dr. G tested my D (but didn't tell me what it was) and said I didn't need to be taking 'that much' so I backed off and have only been taking 2000 mg./day.

Sounds like I need to double that again.

Thanks!

My level is 61 for Vitamin D and my doc has me on 6,000 IU's a day and has had me at this level for a while. If you are low, 2,000 isnt' going to do a lot. Is there a reason you didn't get your results? That would let you know how well the 50,000 worked for you!

I asked for a copy of all my test results and they mailed them, but there was no vitamin D in the papers they sent. Argh!

I would like to know. I'll call and ask tomorrow.

Thanks!

Yes it is! I was feeling wild and had it cut like this yesterday. I am still adjusting to having it SO short, but I think I'm going to like it. The back is super-short and the neckline is cut into an inverted 'V'.

tn_Donna's new hair cut 009.JPG

Now I can wear all kinds of cute, hoopy earrings! (I haven't been wearing earrings for the past two years since I've had my hair covering my ears entirely. I just didn't wear them. I was surprised my ears didn't close up -- but I got earrings in them just fine.)

Now I want to go out and get some different hoops!

LOL! It's so easy to get up in the morning and run a brush through it, give it a spritz and GO! (Men have it SO easy!!! They get the easier hair and at football games their bathroom lines are always shorter too!)

What have I been missing out on all these years?!? I can't do anything about the bathroom lines, but I'm so glad I got the easy hair!

I'm going for my followup bloodwork this week. It's been 6 weeks since I was switched from Armour to synthetic T4 (but at a higher dose than the Armour.)

QUESTION:

I usually take my T4 around 7 a.m. If I can go get the bloodwork at 8 a.m., should I not take the T4 before the bloodwork, but wait until after?

I'm really hoping he adds some Cytomel to my Rx.

I'm still napping every day. If I don't get 9-10 hours of sleep at night, I have to nap in the afternoon around 3 or 4 p.m.

T4 is so slow and crappy (compared to T3) that it takes a full four WEEKS to show up, so take that anytime you want before testing...what's incoming won't be 'picked up on' in any tests for four WEEKS. That's why you feel so crappy.

It's been rough.

I don't think my Celiac test will be accurate anyway because I haven't really been eating any gluten since I went low carb. I read somewhere that people shouldn't stop the gluten foods before the Celiac test because then it won't be accurate.

I don't know what low carb gluten thing I could eat tonight that might trigger a response if I do have Celiac.

Soy sauce? Hot dogs? (Ugh!)

While my brain fog has lifted I still need that nap every day.

Also, I don't have much energy for exercise. (Though my regular dr. 'encourages' me to exercise anyway. It made me want to hit her. Would THAT count as exercise? )

DRY skin.

Libido = ZERO. Nuthin' happening and I don't want anything happening. It is very upseting to just have those feelings be GONE. I've watched romantic movies, read steamy novels . . . still nothing.

Weight: I've lost 1 1/2 lbs. in 2 months.

Body aches.

I just want to stay at home and be alone.

I'm really hoping I'll get that T3 and start to feel like myself again.

Thanks.

My appt. is on Oct. 19. (I have to get the bloodwork two weeks in advance of the appt., and they wouldn't check until it had been SIX weeks since the new meds.)

I can't wait to find out if he'll give it to me or not. He said he would if my labs warranted it. I'll be praying that they are very clearly low.

Tomorrow it'll be two weeks until my appt. It feels like all I do is WAIT.

If I hadn't been eating lots of gluten, I would nix that test. Really now...all it's gonna do is take money (even if it IS from insurance) and your time. If you do well off of gluten, then stick with it cuz that would be your Rx. anyway.

Can't wait to see the newest thyroid labs. Hang in there.

Hey, I'm just now seeing this and I'm already back from doing the tests.

I put soy sauce all over my chicken last night -- just in case. (But I don't feel any different after eating it.) They also did a "Corus CAD' test that tests gene expression for coronary artery disease. I do NOT have coronary artery disease. (But I had three of the indicators: high cholesterol, fatigue, and family history of hypertension.) She said "All of Dr. Bhushan's patient's get this test and I see that you are new, so you are getting it too." She said that they'll bill my insurance and whatever insurance doesn't pay, they'll send me two bills but to ignore them. She said that since it's his in-house lab that I won't be charged for anything my insurance won't pay (just for the CAD test.)

Does he get a kick-back from running all these tests?!?
