Can you split a synthroid dosage?
So I am taking thegeneric synthroid. I am on 75mg, generic cytomel 5 mg 3 x daily. I don't feel like the 75 is enough but after I take a 100, I feel a little warm about 2 hrs later. Has anyone ever taken a split dosage of synthoid during the day?

I had to cut back on my Synthroid when combined with Cytomel. Like you, I take my Cytomel several times per day, but when combined with Synthroid the Synthroid dose, for me, had to be cut back. The other thing I have found is that If I take my Synthroid right before bed it works better for me.
To answer your question, yes, you can split your Synthroid, But try it at bedtime for a few days and see if it makes a difference before you split it. |

Are you asking if you can cut the Synthroid pill? (The manufacturer says no you can't).

I take the generic and my doc has had me split them. I would ask your doc. I was told to take it in the morning and never with a calcium supplement.

Armour said you couldn't take it subling too, but we all know you can.
I have had two doctors recommend splitting my Synthroid. ew1, You need to wait at least two hours after taking cal/mag to take any thyroid medications. I like to take cal/mag at lunch time, but that is just me. There was a very small study done that found that taking Synthroid at bedtime caused the body to better convert T4 to T3. It seems to work for me, but you would need to give it a try to see if it works for you. If I take my T4 when I wake up there is almost no T3 conversion. |

Thanks guys. How about if I took it around 7 in the evening and then took my cal mag around 9 PM-would that work?
The reason I do the cal mag at bedtime is because it helps with fibromyalgia type muscle issues and helps me fall asleep. |

You need to wait one hour after eating to take Synthroid, and at least two hours after taking Synthroid before you take cal/mag so it would work providing you finish eating dinner by six.

OK, so that might work. I get up at 5 AM for work during the week and have been taking my pill then and eating bfast around 7. I think that's too early.
So if I do this other thing, should I just be taking my T3 during the day as normal? |

I am currently taking a Cytomel/Synthroid combo. At first it was way too much to take at once, so we tried splitting 1/2 Synthroid/cytomel in the AM and half in the late afternoon. That left me feeling much better, but for me the answer was taking my Synthroid before bed and the Cytomel split up during the day.
Right after my thyroidectomy about 12 years ago the doctor recommended that I split my Synthroid into two doses. I was having trouble not feeling well if I took it all at once. |

First, I'm a healthcare practitioner, I've worked with thyroid from a holistic perspective for over a decade. BE CAREFUL splitting doses IF you have autoimmune thyroid problems as it can overwhelm the system and you can be in for months of chaotic symptoms. Check and make sure it's not autoimmune. It won't hit at first but after a couple of months it can hit hard for many people.
