New Armour vs. Naturethroid

What is the general consensus about which one works better/is preferred?

Is it a dosage issues with the new Armour...IOW, if the dosage is upped does it work ok? Or is it something else entirely so even at the right dosage it isn't working for most people?

I have scripts for both Armour and Naturethroid and most likely Dr. Friedman will let me go with whichever one I feel the best on. The trouble is I don't know, I can't remember when I went on the "new Armour" and my dosage of Naturethroid is probably too low...so I can't tell which one I feel better on.

Opinions?

I'd skip right to ERFA Canada IMHO.

you get a script from your Dr as ERFA . some online canadian pharms will also take scripts for amour or just natural thyroid.

written in the dosage you need. Then you fax it to them with id..

at stop the thyroid madness, in the blog in , to the right, there is a listing for canadian pharms.
universal is very popular and gets great customer service.
It will take about 2 weeks. I've heard there is a way to speed it up but you will have to call 'cause i dont remember lol.......

It's very sweet and works just like the OLD amour. I take mine subling.

If Dr. Friedman doesn't know about this, he will need exact directions on how to write out the script...is it written out the same way as Armour is written out ~ i.e., in grains, mgs or what?

Does he fax it directly to the Canadian Pharmacy, and does this work with insurance?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I have never heard of this and don't want to waste any more time once I get my labs back...it's been a long enough nightmare these past few months.

As for taking Armour sublingually...if your labs always show up fine, is there any reason to take it this way? I'm able to get my numbers to the correct range swallowing mine with water...is there any further advantage to taking it sublingually if it appears I have never had a problem absorbing it with water?

I think it smells disgusting too so if there isn't a big benefit to taking it sublingually, I'd rather not.

he will write the dosage the same as if he was writing for amour.

YOU fax the script. For some reason many US doctors wont.

I dont find it has a smell taking it subling. It's sweet and then i can take all my supplements and not worry about food or timing.

For some reason I thought it was ok to take armour with food. I know not to mix it with other supplements. Am I wrong. Between my lip and my gum works too.

that is called buccal dollface and yes that is ok as well. Same as subling. It doesnt get caught up in the digestion process.

I checked all of my local Pharmacies, and none of them can even order Nature-throid or Westhroid.I went to both websites for these thyroid hormones and they are not available in my area.I have Caremark/CVS as part of my healthcare package through work.I would need to get a paper Rx from the Doc although I have seen a doc do it online through a hand held Palm or something. Now that they do it through CVS sometimes I can just get the office to call it in.

I don't think anyone can get naturals right now no matter where in the US you are. BUT I read on Armour's site that they are planning the first shipments the beginning of Feb. Fingers crossed that they really are.

Has anyone else heard?

Yes, and it will be the 'reformulated doesn't work' Armour.

I've been on Nature-throid for a few weeks. I found it at Walgreen's in Chicago. I'm feeling pretty good on it. I'm actually looking better too. My face looks more like it did before my thyroid problems. I'm going to stick with Nature-throid.

I'd stick with Naturethroid TOO if I could get a 'steady supply' of it. Much better than the reformulated Armour.

ElleMarie, call around and see if any pharmacies in your area have Naturethroid or Westhroid....and if they have perhaps bottles of 100 count...maybe one pharmacy would have enough to last you until the shortage is over. Otherwise, I do think the Canada stuff would be the way to go.

I just got a shipment of the "new" Armour about a week or so ago, but I don't trust it...I had been on N.T. due to the backlog of Armour, and I re-ordered the Armour before I had read any of this stuff and realized that that was probably why I was having so many problems.

Today I called the specialty pharmacy that Friedman prescribed the N.T through and re-ordered the N.T. through them. They had to check to make sure they had some in stock and they said they did.

I've been self-medicating and I've upped my dose while I am waiting to hear back from Friedman. It usually takes a while to hear back from him, he's always backlogged.

I don't know why he did that, maybe he had me down as only being on 60 mgs of Armour...whatever the case, he converted me too low and I am feeling like CRAP. So I just bumped myself back up to 1.5 grains of NT.

And actually, he would tell me to do this...and then ask me how I am feeling. I like that about Friedman, he treats my symptoms and not the numbers on my labs. He knows that I know my body best by now.

I also fill out my own lab sheets and have tests run that I think need to be run. So far I have always been dead on.

I had to push my pharmacy to find the Nature-Throid for me. They called the distributor and found 200 pills each 65 grain. That will last me 3 months at which time the shortage should be over.

Donna, you are an optimistic thing!! I have been fighting for Armour for many months and everywhere I call is out of ALL types and have been for a bit.

I just called the Women's International Pharmacy and they will compound it for me at a great price PLUS best part only olive oil as a filler so low carb friendly. Any they ship for a very reasonable cost.

Great ElleMarie!! My compounder likes to use olive oil TOO (but says he has to use 'more' of the powder because of it).

The Nature-throid was cheap. I paid $20.00 for (180) 1 grain pills. I did not do well on the reformulated Armour. I hope I can find more Nature-Throid when these pills run out.

The ERFA has a nasty aftertaste sublingually that old Armour didn't have. I am in the process of finishing old Armour and switching to Erfa, but I may stick to swallowing. My labs are okay.

Thanks Pam! He was a foster dog we cared for, was adopted out to a wonderful a home a few weeks ago. I miss him!

I am living in VT now and my docs are clueless (are you surprised?) but they keep me on dessicated thyroid since I was already on it, they run labs when I ask them, and have let me increase when I wanted. I'm afraid to do the labs 4 hours after my Armour even though I am very curious . . . but if the FT3 came back anywhere near the top of the range they might say I should take less.

Mandy...I'm in the same boat with you on testing 4 hours after taking anything with T3 in it. I have had the same experience with them cutting back my meds.....all based on TSH in the past. So, I have also been taking my night dose, and then testing 12 hours later. I still need the FT4 to rise, so once it gets up where it belongs, perhaps I would get braver and do the 4 hour later testing "on my own" and just know for my own info! :-)

I know how that goes...and lots are doing the FT's through healthcheckusa and other labs just to find out 'on their own'. Kind of happy that Armour is a 'go at your own pace and adjust per symptoms' except that sometimes we are wrong about the symptoms (but then can get our own labs in that instance).
