thyroid issues -period issues?
hi, i am a 28 years female. I am going mental with all the confusion with my lab reports.
Initially i started having problems with my period it was delayed since arpil and i didnt give any notice. I was really stressed due to work and personal issues and overworked. i was exercising and being really careful with my food without overdoing it and i dropped at 43 kilos my june without noticing it and i am 166 cm. but i was working 7 days a week for 11 hours more or less and exercising 3-4 times per week for 1-2 hours. anyway i reached that point without noticing and then i realised that i didnt had any periods for 2 months and start to slow down as i was feeling really excausted. couldnt walk, trouble in breathing. over the next two months i was eating better almost double the amount , not working weekends and not exercising as much. i managed to put on some weight and got my periods back but i need to say that it was really difficult to put on the weight. i had some tests and my thyroid hormones were normal. after putting on the weight i went on holidays put on more and when back i couldnt exercise, i was feeling bloated and without any energy at all. i tried to exercise and put a schedule with the food, but i was constantly hungry as before and eventhough i was a bit careful with the food i couldnt loose any weight that was never the issue. i had my periods during august and september although normal. during september and october i was trying to loose 2 kilos and i couldnt whatever i was doing. my weight was stable but i didnt got my period during october. during the last month i am really bloated swallen, feeling excausted and no period. my legs and calves are double the size and really hurt and probasbly is due to water retention. i can not loose any weight at all. and even put on without even eating. i restricted my calories so much that i think iam doing harm to myself. and i can not even exercise. but still not weight lose. in addition i can not sleep due to stress from work. last week i had some tests and they came back as all my female hormones are really really low, have normal tsh but low t3 and t4. that implies under active thyroid. but despite not being able to lose weight and water retention i am not sleepy at all. i am the opposite. i didnt sleep for three days last week and my doctor gave me a sleeping bill. so that does not go with the hypothyroidism . i dont know what to do. i was away last week as well and i was eating more than 2000 calories per day with some days overdoing it . i put on some weight but not so much. should i start eating more maybe that is why my hormones are low or i do have under active and i will just make everyhting worse and put weight on either way.please help./ |

Of course consult with your Dr. regarding all of your lab work, medicating for the thyroid, etc.
What I'm going to suggest is to begin by eating plenty of animal fat and protein, butter, green leafy veggies restricting your carbohydrate level but not your food. It's sounding like a variety of things to me including some adrenal fatigue. The best thing to get the endocrine system in order is a high fat, moderate protein low carbo diet. You need the fat to build those hormones that are suffering from quite possibly lack of fat and over burden of stress. I'm also going to recommend Cod Liver Oil. The vitamins A & D will assist this process and elevate your repair. Be easy on yourself, understand your limitations and begin healing. This should also help your menstrual cycle. |

Low T3 and T4 can be indicative of a compromised thyroid.. What are the actual labs with ranges. Do you happen to have a copy (always get and keep them) of all the tests the dr ran?
I"d definitely advise finding another dr, because the one that you are currently seeing isnt helping you. MOST of us find endo to be awful in but find better help with other dr's that are more open and dont evaluate people via a lab range. You need a full panel work up for thyroid, adrenal(saliva test 4x a day) and sex hormones. What state are you in,

You need to split your posts into paragraphs PLEASE (not yelling...hard for me to read that with compromised vision).
Ileen is correct. "normal' may not be normal. You are saying kilo's for weight...are you not in the US? Cuz if you are not, treatment for adrenals and hormones and thyroid is very difficult in the UK. I have lists of docs everywhere...but still..please advise as to where you are. My DSis lives in UK and flies here for treatment. HUGE witchhunts for doctors who actually treat well in the UK right now. (NHS doesn't like that....yanno). Pam |
