I found this:
. I didn’t know that Calcium Citrate can be taken with out food and doesn’t cause gas or bloating. In fact, it is suppose to be the most expensive form of calcium, and is great for those with reflux problems. . The next in line is Calcium Carbonate which is affordable, but does cause bloating, gas, and constipation, so one should take it with food. If you have a reflux problem, don’t take this one! Are you taking JUST vitamin D3, or is it with a calcium supp? Pam |

Just D3 no calcium. I have reflux big time. I take prilosec twice a day. Maybe I should try calcium again. I tried taking some calcium when I was feeling so fatigued on the reformulated Armour. I thought it made me feel worse. For some unknown reason I only have one kidney that functions. The other one is walnut size. I found this out years ago when I had a kidney stone. I'm sure all this is related. My breasts are also sore. I have not taken the D3 for two days and I am still retaining fluid. Thanks,

Are you taking progesterone? Does the kidney that's very small have an adrenal on top of it, or are you also missing that adrenal gland?

I had to switch from Naturethroid to Synthroid/Cytomel. This switch seems to result in less water retention for me. I notice a strong diuretic effect after taking my Cytomel.

Pam I don't know the answer to your question. ( I had a IVP) I think that's the name, when I had a kidney stone. It's Dye and a x-ray. I do take a adrenal support vit. I did the saliva test several years ago. I always blamed every thing on fibro for years. I wonder if I even have that or if it's all thyroid related. Do you think it could be parathyroid related? I'm sure you have had this experience, when you go to a Dr and ask the kind of questions we ask here and they look at you like your crazy. That's why it's so nice to come here and talk. It's also great because people here actually know the answers sometimes. Thanks

Hypothyroidism alone will cause bloat, but to have a kidney problem TOO...may change the course of your treatment. It also depends on how MUCH Cytomel you are taking. With the advent of the recent crisis in people not being able to get natural thyroid, many doctors are switching them to synthetic. I'm seeing two things: 1. patients switched over are on a bit 'more' T3 that what they were getting in natural because some docs didn't know how to adjust that ..they would look at TSH instead of FT's. 2. some docs are giving ONLY Cytomel and WAY too much of it...I have over 50 emails in the last WEEK (my usual is 20 or so, heh heh) from folks being put on 50mcg. Cytomel and 100mcg. T4 being switched from ONE or TWO grains of natural!
I JUST had an email from a patient telling me she was losing weight better and felt better on synthetics. She WAS on two grains of Armour which would be about 75mcg. T4 and 18mg. T3. She switched out to 125mcg. T4 synthetic and a WHOPPING 50mcg. Cytomel. Um...yeah...and in about four weeks she'll prolly not feel too well and be on the hyPER side. Her doc only looks at her TSH. Sigh. And we're all individuals...at different hormone levels and stages of life. That can really change things too. I don't bloat like I did before menopause was over and I needed to add in BHRT to 'balance' all my hormones...but I also don't have quite the energy I had when I was younger either, lol. As I get older, I don't require quite as much T3 as when I was younger, and my doctor also understands that. Pam

Pam That is what's going on with me also. Don't need as much T3 at 56. Bee |

I just turned 55...I used to need four grains natural porcine and now I'm wimping down to 3, heh heh. It has so very much to do with other hormones...I wish doctors would 'get it'. If a woman is on BHRT it binds the conversion and we need more (as do women young enough to be making their own hormones) but if we're NOT and we're post meno...we really don't need quite as much IMHO

I hear ya Pam, My Dr went by that conversion chart and gave me 50 of cytomel, I am spliting 25 and that is plenty, 50 twice a day made me feel weird. I gave him the chart knowing we world have to adjust. I got a Rx for Thyroid from Canada. I can't wait for it. The synthetics are much better than reformulated Armour, but I felt better on the old Armour. I can't really explain it. I also was able to loose wt with exercise and diet on the old Armour. I have gained a total of 10lbs with reformulated A and Synthetics. Thanks so much for everyones in put. I have had trouble in the past with fluid retention, but not for awhile. I can live with it. Tender boobs no fun. Too much info maybe. Sondra

Well, 50 of Cytomel is no match/conversion for Armour or natural thyroid. Natural thyroid has T4, T1 and T2 in it also to balance (not to mention calcitonin for the bones). If he converted you out to 50 Cytomel than you must have been on ...um...say....five GRAINS of Armour? WAY too much T3, no T4 to balance it. Don't know what 'conversion' chart he's usin'. LOL

I was on 90mg of Armour. OK for the good news guess what came in the mail today. Thats right THYROID from Canada. I got 60mg and 30mg both. I think I will just start with 60mg and see how that feels. What do ya think about that? I used a conversion chart I found on line somewhere. I asked you about it a while back. I don't need it any more. I got the real deal now. Sondra

A prescription is required, at least it is supposed to be.
Can I just vent for a moment that I am SO SICK of spending hours every month sourcing thyroid medication. I'm guessing it might be easier to source heroin. Geez. I hope my doc faxes the prescription to Canada as I just asked her to in a fax to her. Then at least I will be good for 3 months which will feel like a miracle of relief at this point! OK - now I'm off to find a newspaper so that I can read about people's REAL problems and feel better about all this LOL! Thanks for listening. DG

it's definitely required.
some drs wont fax the script but there is no problem if the patient faxes it. some sites have a special form that goes with the fax.. you send your id with it. some require you to also mail in the script as well. Many are very happy with Thyroid, as it works as well as the old Amour. |

"Thyroid" from Canada is a pill, just like the old, non-reformulated Armour Thyroid. Capsules are natural porcine thyroid compounded by a compounding pharmacy. Both are quite alike in strength of hormone dosage.

Thanks, Pam and Dollface. The picture on the website looked like a capsule. Now that I know, I won't be caught off guard when it comes in pill form.
