Who's got a doc who goes by FT's and Rx's T4 AND Cytomel in Dallas/Ft. Worth area?
Hey DFW neighbors,
If anyone has a doc that they would recommend in this area that goes by FT's and Rx's T4 and Cytomel, could you let me know. I would appreciate the recommendation. I was sent to an endocrinologist in Richardson who told me that I needed to exercise more and eat 1000 calories even though my calorie deficits were at or near a 1000. She reluctantly took blood. Below are the results: TSH 1.9 - Range .3 - 5.1 (TSH a month before was 2.86 - Range .4-4.5) Free T3 - 2.9 - Range 2.3 - 4.2 Free T4 - 1.13 - Range .73 - 1.95 AM Cortisol - 8 - Range 7 - 25 Ferritin - 49 - Range 10-154 My vitamin D levels are low again for the second time in six months after doing three months of 50,000 IU's weekly for three months. I started to try to lose weight when I had some intestinal issues and felt like the docs were just saying my issues were weight related. Two years later I have struggled with losing weight even though at times I was exercising three hours several days a week and eating 1400 calories and not losing anything. I still have the same intestinal issues, I am always cold and ache from being so cold, my hair falls out, my nails are the worst and sometimes I can get so enraged for no apparent reason. My body temperatures average 97.2 in the mornings. Losing weight has become a means to me to get rid of the intestinal pain and other symptoms or get the docs to listen to me without thinking it is weight. Thanks everyone! Mellabar |

Dr Launius in Lewisville might fit your need. He does not treat adrenals but his whole family is hypo. He knows a lot about thyroid.

I just wanted to add that before you can have thyroid hormone, those adrenals would need to be treated (adrenals should be 'high' in the morning and low at evening, and a 4x in one day salivary test would be the way to go....as far as testing. I don't know what doctors are thinking only doing one cortisol draw am...sigh).
Here's my listing on the doc that's been given: (from Mary Shomon's site). (scroll down to Lewisville) Texas Top Doctors -- Best Thyroid Doctors in the World as Nominated by Patients, from Mary Shomon Pam

Thanks Pam! I guess I never even thought of the adrenals. I thought the lower the cortisol the better.
You say in some of your other posts that you have severe allergies. Are you allergic to antibiotics? Thanks again everyone. |

mellabar..The cortisol would be highest in the morning (when you wake up...after resting) then about the same/little less second salivary/blood, then lower, then lowest at evening (your morning draw looks like most evening draws).
I have HIE (Hyper IgE Syndrome)...it means that I have life threatening inhalant allergies (as well as several food allergies). I can become allergic to something that I wasn't allergic to just a few weeks before...I have been 'treated' for this with Xolair injection (unfortunately that injection was followed by my having ovarian cancer).
