Please help with my test results!

The only tests my student health center could do were Triiodothyronine (T3?), Free T4, and TSH.

Triiodothyronine- 79 (normal range 60-181)
Free T4- 1.23 (normal range .90-1.70)
TSH- 2.42 (normal range .40-5.50)

Now, I've been reading a lot of articles saying most people function BEST with TSH levels BELOW 2.... but of course my doctor said everything was "normal." Despite a lot of web searching I still don't understand how to interpret the T3 and Free T4.
I'm suspicious that my doctor isn't telling me everything...after all, I've been having EXTREMELY irregular periods despite being on birth control, bleeding for 2 to 3 weeks a month! My doctor could summon no explanation for it. Also constant constipation, always freezing cold, tired, super depressed, and I've literally had to eat a concentration camp amount of calories to lose any weight in the past. I have almost all symptoms of hypothyroid, actually...

I was wondering if these ranges were enough to give any insight? Thank you so much. I'm just so confused

you total t3 is quite low, which means your FREE t3 is even lower.., Not good.

you need to find a dr that is going to run AND interpret those tests properly.

is it possible for you to go see someone else? what state are you in

ITA with Inatic...and you can have all the tests in the WORLD but if YOU (and the doctors) just go by TSH you'll never get help. We have lists of thyroid docs.

DH and I have a new PCP (well, a year new to us, lol) and he's gotten to the point of checking both T4 and T3 (was only doing TSH a year ago, ) and suspecting hypothyroidism in folks with high BP and high cholesterol. YAY!! He's really coming along...and is writing Rx.'s for Armour or Thyroid, or Westhroid! I'm quite excited as he is influencing the rest of our small town docs to do the same.
