Question For Nonstickpam - Please help!

I need your expertise. My son is 26 years old. His labs are:
TSH sensitive 16.4 (.35-5.50)
Free T4 is 1.32(.90-1.80).
They did not do Free T3 nor the antibodies.
I tried but the doctor said that he has Hashimotos and it is not necessary. His cholesterol is high - 254, triglycerides are sky high - 386. From reading your posts and others I know he is not being treated properly. He is very symptomatic. He has been in the emergency room for heart arythmias. His eyes are puffy and bulging, his weight keeps going up, he is losing his hair, he has severe sleep problems, enertia and is depressed. He is on 150mcg of Levothyroxine and his recent TSH (I can't find the labs) was low. The doctor said he is now midly hyperthyroid but it is ok. I need a new dr for him. I would like an actual recommendation from you or others. I checked the stop the madness site and the thyroid-info site but I am wondering who you would recommend specifically.I am in San Diego but if you know someone really good anywhere in southern California then I don't mind traveling. I cannot thank you enough.

If you don't know his FT3 than just throwing some T4 at him isn't going to help much. You CAN go to Online Lab Tests: blood work, blood testing and laboratory tests and have him order up Thyroid panel II...give discount code: 12345 at time of payment....they will send him to a lab near him and report back to him.

I agree with Ileen...joining that group in Cali will be your best source of a doctor's name. There are many there who've found doctors that aren't listed anywhere. Let me know if he sees a doctor that helps him..your son is FAR FAR from being hyPERthyroid. It's difficult to get good thyroid care in California (not as difficult as New York State though!).

Also try posting a thread here in the thyroid forum on LCF. Off the top of my head I can't remember if any of our members with good docs are down in SD but someone might be. Just post thread "Need Great Doc in Southern Cali" or "San Diego" or whatever.
