Kidney Stones and Hypothyroid??

I don't think I have kidney stones, but I was wondering if people with hypothyroid feel that there is a connection.

My dad has had terrible kidney stones (he started taking meds for diabetes in his early 30's)..and his mom (my grandma)..had really bad kidney stones.

I had read something about the parathyroid can become damaged..which is right in there with the thryoid.

I was just curious to hear input about this topic.

Um, not really 'right in there'. I had hyperparathyroidism (from a parathyroid adenoma, was removed along with parathyroids and I've done fine with calcitonin). But I also have Hashimoto's autoimmune hypothyroidism, which is seen in families (but not labeled 'genetic').

Bottom line: You want a REALLY good ENT to do the surgery...and you want a doctor who will do Free T4, Free T3 testing to see if the thyroid is producing a good amount of hormones.

I haven't seen kidney stones hand in hand with thyroid a lot.

Fort Wayne ENT...I believe..his name is Dr. Thomas Dumas and he's an ENT surgeon in Ft. Wayne, Indiana (just google his name and locale).
