I have no food allergies that I know of.
I AM allergic to Ibuprofin
and have had allergic reactions real bad to dye in laundry detergent.
I also have psoriasis and keratosis pilaris (both skin conditions)
but I'm okay on foods as far as I know.

I don't post often anymore (too busy working/thyroid patient advocation IRL now) but allergies are COMMON when a person is low in T3.

I'm very allergic, high IgE AND I'm superbly allergic to Synthroid (made from corn..I'm allergic to corn). Synthroid is T4 ONLY and I (like about 75% of all thyroid patients) cannot convert it to the essential T3 hormone. Make sure your doc is testing for both Free T3, Free T4 and either adding Cytomel (synthetic T3) or giving you a natural hormone with both T4 and T3 if your T3 lab is low. JUST doing a TSH (pituitary test) doesn't test the actual thyroid levels.

Hey Niki! GREAT to see YOU too!! Hope things are going well for you.

If you don't have enough money to get TSH, FT4, FT3 through insurance, Online Lab Tests: blood work, blood testing and laboratory tests has Thyroid Panel/Profile II (TSH, FT4, FT3), you order online from them, they send you to a lab near you, have their doctor sign your lab request and then present the testing results back to you! Upon checkout, please use discount code: 12345. (It's under 90 dollars most of the time..and my insurance has paid up to 350 dollars for those same tests!).

No food allergies-sugar makes me sick. But do have seasonal airborne allergies & allergic to dust mites. Why no more dairy or gluten? Are you lactose intolerant & did they do a test for celiac disease?

Good post Lisa, I was just going to suggest that as well. I'm Celiac but the blood test didn't show it...the small bowel biopsy sure did though. Plus the fact that when I gave up all gluten is when I started to feel SO much better (the 'ah ha' moment!).

I am hypothyroid with Hashimoto's, but I have no known allergies to food, although I had a reaction to the antibiotic Cipro and am now considered allergic to that. Did you test allergic to dairy and gluten?

I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroid also, I have environmental allergies and a milk allergy as well, I recently cut out all dairy and gluten. I was never tested for celiac, but after being hospitalized this summer with diverticulitis I decided to cut out all gluten.

HI PAM!!

HI TINA!!!! Did cutting out dairy help you? I didn't cut out dairy...but gluten is a very bad thing for me, lol. I've always hated milk (figures...raised by Grandparents on a dairy farm, heh heh) but eat cottage cheese made in a local dairy by an Amish family, and is low in cassein, as well as cream cheese from same source.

Perhaps your doctor is saying limit dairy BECAUSE many of us with Celiac must also avoid cassein...I react to too much cassein (can have it maybe once a week). If you read about Celiac, most who have it also react to cassein in cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc. But I don't feel you should limit dairy UNLESS you have tested positive for having Celiac...even those with wheat allergy can usually have cassein. OP needs to ask the doc WHY the ban on dairy.

Hi Pam,

I think it has helped, it has only been about two months so far. I never really had bad reactions to milk and ignored the fact that I have a milk allergy, I forgot about it to be honest. But since dropping it, the scale has moved a little bit, I've lost about 5 lbs. not alot, but more than I have been able to lose recently. My sinuses a clear too

I am hypo (third generation) and Celiac, with very low ferritin....we are addressing that succesfully finally, and boy do I feel good these days! It has been a long haul.

Pam, question for you: if a thyroid has been removed, would a patient still request the TPO-antibodies test? I'm just curious.

My coworker lost her thyroid to cancer several years ago, but her doctor just recently told her she has hashimotos, so I'd say it is beneficial to have the antibodies test.

Many who have Hashimoto's also have thyroid cancer...it just stands to reason when 20% of the adult female population in the USA have Hashimoto's though.

I have hashi's. I eat dairy and gluten and have no issues with fat loss.. I do tend to stay away from gluten naturally so though as that is what my coach plans menus to mostly be.

I just started another thread about gluten and Hashis. My doc told me yesterday that another doc that he talks w/ that is also "outside the box" in his treatment of thyroid has been telling him that he has been having all of his Hashis patients cut gluten with amazing success in lowering antibodies and making patients feel much better. My doc hasn't done a lot of research on it yet but told me that I could try cutting gluten out of my diet to see if it makes a difference.

Cutting out gluten hasn't been shown to lower TPO antibodies (Hashimoto's antibodies) that I know of. But even if it DOES..the antibodies systematically kill the thyroid's ability to make enough T4 and T3 hormone...so those with Hashi's...are eventually going to be hypothyroid.

There IS, however, a direct link to Celiac and other autoimmune diseases. I have autoimmune diseases...Hashimoto's, Celiac, HIE and PAN.

When I first stopped eating gluten I also cut out dairy for a year because I couldn't digest it with my damaged intestine. Now, I'm able to eat dairy fine.
I am self-diagnosed gluten intolerant. By the time I saw a dr. about it the only way to get a "real" diagnosis was to go back to eating it in order to re-damage my intestine, and I wasn't about to do that.
Don't know about the thyroid...yet. Am going for tests Monday.

I was tested for allergies and they came back negative so not sure if it is common in all or just depends on what affects a person and how.

If you are allergic to dairy or gluten how would you know?
Sometimes after I eat I get a really bloated lower stomach
could that be a result of a food allergy?

Also generic synthroid is bad, I was on it for 6 years with horrible symptoms and when I met a doctor who told me to change it, a lot of my symptoms got better.

many thyroid people do have issue with gluten and some dairy as well. The easiest way is to eliminate it for about a month or so and see how you feel.

I pretty much dont eat a lot of gluten but do get some bloating. I've been using digestive enzymes and have much less bloat.

Sometimes the bloat is associated with hormone issues OR not enough thyroid/balance in your body as well. I read on another thread your dr wont test t3, so you have no clue if your body is converting the T4 into t3.

I take Garden of Life Omega Zyme Ultra Ultimate Digestive Enzyme Blend

It works really good. But it is pretty expensive.

Beth im using PB8, which is a pretty decent one for both quality and price. There are better ones but price wise and efficency, these are fine.

Hello Everyone,

As for me, I suspect a gluten and lactose intolerance although it was never confirmed medically.

I do know of a cheese that is lactose free which I can only find at Walmart:

Cabot of Vermont 75% Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Made with 1% Milk
1 ounce is:
Cals:60
Fat: 2.5
Chol: 10mg
Sodium: 200mg
Carb: <1g
Contains no animal rennet

After ingredients it states: Contains 0g of lactose per serving
