Anyone have hairloss from thyroid meds?

I took Unithroid a few years ago and had MAJOR hairloss afterwards. I stopped taking the medication because of this. I didn't feel any better while on the meds and my test results were borderline to begin with.

I saw my doctor on Friday and he prescribed a low dose of Synthroid, but I am afraid to take it because of what happened in the past.

Does anyone have any input on this situation?

I had some hairloss on Synthroid, fortunately not major. It did, however, stop after about 6-8 months, thank goodness (which is as the prescription info suggests, interestingly enough). I also started adding Cytomel around that time, however, and I'm not sure what effect if any this had on the hair.

Both synthetic T4 and synthetic T3 (Cytomel) resulted in heavy hairloss for me (and hives, and and and..I won't go on..I'm allergic to corn, thus I'm allergic to synthetic T4..it's made from CORN).

You might want to inquire as to using Armour or Westhroid (natural, have all the thyroid hromones in them: T1, T2, T3, T4 and calcitonin for bone health).

You need to also consider that you are taking T4 synthetic ONLY, and as Prairieprof has told you her doc added T3 synthetic (Cytomel). Most of us do not convert our T4 into any part of T3 and thus the doc can add T3 in either synthetic (Cytomel) OR switch you over to natural porcine thyroid (Armour, Westhroid).
