What does it mean to subscribe to a thread?

If you're looking at a post and notice the bottom right hand underlined phrase "Subscribe to this thread" what does it mean? All replies to that thread are sent to your email?

I think so -or you just get an e-mail notice that there has been a reply...

yes all replies to that thread are sent to your e-mail. PLus when you click on "My Controls" you will see the ones you are subscribed to
