Question for the moderators...

I'm just wondering why we can't use html code to customize our signatures?

Oh boy.

We used to be able to, and then people went bananas and sigs were taking over. Some were so big that you had to scroll past a whole screen's worth of pictures, flotsam and jetsam. Since people couldn't control themselves, no more pics were allowed and the number of lines were limited.

There was a big to-do when the rules were changed, which was several years ago.

No offense to anyone, but I love that we don't have dancing, screaming sigs here. It's an instant turn off to me on any forum, it increases load time, and makes mobile access almost unbearable.

Those were the days. To say it was way out of hand is an understatement.

Jake, do any of your other forums have iPhone-friendly or mobile-friendly formats? Two of the others I go to have a choice, so I can participate in the forums via my iPhone without it going crazy with extraneous crud.

I don't mind the gifs and so on when on my iBook, but on the iPhone, too many of them on one page is a PIA.

I have Windows Mobile with IE four, so nothing is too friendly, lol. I do have the option of turning off all image file types though, so that helps a lot.

Well, that's understandable.

*If* they would let us do it again maybe they could put a size limit on the files?

I just thought it would be nice to be able to do a little more with the signatures.

It makes sense - I'm a member of a couple forums where I am *constantly* using the "Adblock" extension for Firefox so I can "delete" all the flashing pics they have in their sigs.

It was a mess. I had to turn the display of sigs off to keep my sanity.

Okay, that makes sense. I have seen some forums like that.

Thanks for taking time to answer!

I turned off my sig display when it got really bad a while back and never turned it back on. Even after rules changed.

I have never seen anybody's signature. LOL

Its pretty well been answered...

I go to another forum where alot of people have pictures and flashing doodads in the signatures... and even now on DSL it takes a long time for long threads to load.

I was on Dialup for the longest time and coming here became too much of a PITA... even without all the long signatures. I only went to the other one from work where I was on a T1. and came here rarely from home until we got the DSL.

I think the short answer to the OP is - consideration of others.
