Hey y'all! So I just started the Nuvaring and I'm hearing horror stories about weight gain. I'm hoping this won't be possible if I'm on stillman's, right? How can anyone gain weight on stillman's even when on birth control? Have any of y'all had experience with this?

skittles-

Just watch out! I have no experience with birth control, but my understanding is that they are hormones. I'm hyperthyroid, and when my thyroid hormones are too low, I can gain no matter how I'm eating. I once gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks--eating exactly the way I'd been eating to lose a pound a week. That's how powerful our hormones are!

I'm not saying this will happen. Just watch your scale, and don't get discouraged if you see no loss or a slight gain. If that happens, I'd check with my doctor about an alternative.

I am committed and my first goal is to make it the whole month without eating off plan. We have no social commitments this month. The next one isn't until the first week of February. The fridge is stocked with protein. I made a chicken salad yesterday out of last week's leftover chicken breast. It's really good and only 2 carbs per serving!

I did wake up super dizzy this morning. Sinuses and the low carb? I don't know, but it wasn't fun. Hopefully it was just a one-time thing. I need to get to work. You all have a great day!
I'm with you! It's freezing here in Virginia. It's supposed to be 5 degrees this weekend. I can't handle 5 degrees! Im from Texas LOL!!! I'm going to co the entire month stillmans, too! I like that idea. It's nice to start a new year

skittles and pawp: great goals!! Cold here this morning again, my computer says 9 degrees outside. skittles - Texas (you must be so cold). I lived Okla. for 10 years - and I have never adjusted to this cold weather. I long for the warmth. My DH is going to join me this month on trimming a few pounds. so happy for him and easier for me to keep all the junk out of the house.

Day 1.......176.0
Day 2.......174.8.......1.2 pounds lost
Day 3.......171.8.......4.2 pounds lost
Day 5.......168.8.......7.2 pounds lost

Another 3 pounds lost! I didn't weigh yesterday, so 3 pounds lost over 2 days!

Skittles,
Hormones can play a big role in weight gain & loss. I have had hormone issues my whole life but have refused hormone treatment. It turns out that I had an undiagnosed wheat sensitivity that messed up my hormones. Now that I've been wheat free since August, I have virtually no hormone imbalance issues and it's so much easier to lose the extra weight. I just wish modern medicine was PRO-active rather than RE-active. But, I understand their stance as it's easier to get a diabetic patient to take insulin rather than make lifestyle changes, for example.

in fact, with the hormone subject, i read in one of the very very old dr atkins books that there were some people that just could not lose weight eating his diet. but if they went to europe and were able to eat atkins with hormone free meat - those people would usually loose. i think a lot of the food we have access to in america has too many hormones, preservatives and chemicals added.

WOW! Thank you everyone for the advice! Where can we buy hormone free beef? CAN we buy hormone free beef? Does chicken contain the same stuff? That's kind of scary.....

Hi everyone,

I just registered day ago. Still trying to figure out how to use this system. My story is I keep losing weight and it keeps finding me. This time I am determined to stick to it. Came across Dr. Stillman so started yesterday and am 1lb. down. Not easy that is for sure.

It works! I'm back down into my 'safe range' (146), but I can't be sure exactly how many pounds I lost because 1) just before I started, I had a day of binge eating when I saw the high number on the scale; 2) I'm sure I was out of ketosis and got back in, so some loss was water. Nevertheless, it's at least 3 lbs of fat with 4 days of Stillman and one 'fat' day--all low calorie.

I've been maintaining for 3 years in the 145-148 range, and I'd like to move down to a 141-145 range (where I feel best), so I plan to stick with Stillman for a while because it works great for me. Even when I do standard low carb, I only eat moderate fat, so this isn't difficult for me. I actually like eating this way. I want to take this slowly because too much restriction often leads to rebound weight gain.

I'm vacationing next week for 4 days, so I'll probably have to rely on just my usual low carb eating--and try to keep my calories low. I know I can lose that way if I'm vigilant.

this is about hormones in beef and milk-not selling anything: Are Growth Hormones in Cattle Causing Health Concerns in America? - Yahoo Voices - voices.yahoo.com

i also read it's not legal to give hormones to chickens, but it is legal to give them growth additves while raising them. i can't imagine that this would be any better for us.

cc is right. it does get easy and you feel great. Saw an adorable movie with sandra bullock and hugh grant called two weeks notice. romantic comedy. i laughed so hard it hurt.

i have decided to buy grass fed beef for my husband, when we get it, and buy the organic free range chicken breast at costco, rather than the cheap big chicken breast we have been getting.

as always - lots of eggs for me. they agree with me so welll. so glad i love eggs. i'm also doing protein shakes as snacks. they really keep the hunger away.

we have a wonderful kitchen at work and the company subsizes the food, so cost is so cheap. i have been loading up on all the meats and bringing them home for the family (dh and my puppies). i have decided to stop on that though, because i feel the sliced chicken breast is processed in some way - even though it looks fabulous - there is lots of salt. the salad bar may also have some other kind of preservatives, but i'm not feeling as well by eating there and will start taking my home made lunch again.

Evening everyone. So day 3 for me. Have to say that today I didn't crave sweets but had cream ( just a little bit) in my coffee. Am trying to stay away from cream, but somehow can't do it. Also can anyone tell me, if you weigh in daily? I heard YES you should and NO once a week is enough. Thanks and stay warm. We are in for freezing rain and 20cm of fresh snow. Oh well tis winter.

madge-

There's no 'rule' about how often to weigh, but you need to figure out what works for you. I try to weigh only weekly because I react too much to the number on the scale, and the daily fluctuations that are meaningless can throw me off plan (e.g., I see a pound up, and I think "WTH, I might as well eat if I'm not losing").

However, many people weigh daily. If you do, keep in mind that the scale rarely reflects what you did exactly 24 hrs before.

Interestingly, when I was 14 and on my first 'diet,' the advice was to weigh only monthly. My family didn't own a scale, so I weighed at the local drugstore once a month. The good thing about this is that a woman can schedule this weigh in to eliminate the water weight gain at time of month (weigh the week after).

Although I weigh weekly, I record that number on my desk calendar to observe long-term trends. I've found this extremely helpful over the years.

Hormones do make a big difference. I started on HRT after hitting menopause..the change had a bonus of 8 pounds of weight gain...I started HRT and now with Stillmania I can get my butt in gear and get rid of this extra fat. Don't need it and don't want it.
Before HRT : insomnia, hot flashes and weight gain. UGH.

Hi fellow Stillmanites!

I'm staying off the carbs and feel great. The few slips I've had have been a quest bar or some greens. Nothing to start up the carb monster again.

Stillman's is the best I've found to get rid of that carb induced eating monster inside of me. It must be getting the carbs really low that does it for me. Sometimes even eating too many veggies can set me off! So if veggies appear, even those will be in moderation.

this is definatly true for me, i have went from eating low card on atkins where i lost 30 pounds a few years ago, to gaining back and trying it again onl to be let down, it truly seems at this point the least little bit of carbs will make me gain ... so i have had to restict myself like crazy

One really rough week down. All in all I was ok but I did have a couple slips. I lost weight so I am OK with that. Plan to do better this week.

I had a rough week as well. Between a cold and the first anniversary of my mom's death, I struggled. The good news is I am back to my lowest weight before all that. Now we are heading back down, right? I am going to ride the bike for a half hour and then make an omelet as a late lunch. Later!
