You're doing great, Erika!

I wish I had the 'mind' that could weigh daily, but my emotional response to the scale number has proven that daily weighing is a disaster for me.

It is what it is. . . .

Thank you Leo! , I am really trying hard to get rid of the pounds that I have gained in 2013! I also can relate to the daily weigh ins, they are encouraging when I lose but so very frustrating when I bounce up , when I don't weigh daily I find myself slacking a lot...I guess I am danged if I do and danged if I don't...I think one of my goals for the new year should be to less obsess over the scale and just focus on my eating.

Back in the saddle

Hey guys and gals. I am a lowcarbfriends oldie but newbie. The last time I was active on here was in April of 2012. Between JUDDDing and Stillman's, I had great success and was so excited. I got down to a size 12ish weighing 170-175, and cant EVER remember being that size. Well...low and behold...I gained the weight back from being a complete slacker.

My family and I live and travel in an RV while working seasonal work. We worked at an amusement park and I was head of a kitchen in one of the restaurants that had pizza, soft pretzels, nachos, subs, all that good stuff. I tried so hard to behave but eventually gave in. Stayed at an average of 180-185. Somehow someway, I crept up to 200 without realizing it. Stepped on the scale last week and about died. No wonder my pants were uncomfortable!

So, here I am again. My goal right now is to just fit into my pants because I am going on my first cruise Jan 20th. I refuse to go buy bigger sizes when I purposely got rid of them so I would have to watch my weight. IT CAN BE DONE on Stillmans, I know, I have seen it.

My original idea was to not step on the scale anymore and just focus on inches. The scale is an addiction for me. Its all or nothing. But...I ended up stepping on it 3 days ago and have everyday since. I really have a love/hate relationship with the scale that drives me nutzo.

Anyway, enough about me...I love reading everyones post on here. It is very encouraging. I look forward to everything you peeps have to offer!

Welcome back, Latisha!

As I'm sure you know, Stillman is a great way to get into those pants in time for your cruise. I envy you because I'm a cruise-a-holic, and I think it's the best vacation in the world--no matter the destination.

Good morning everyone!

Woke up to minus 17 degrees here! I am cold at 50 degrees so never mind the below number I can foresee a LOT of hot tea in my near future! And here is the good news...the scale went down, some, so needless to say I am going to try VERY hard to stick to Stillman's, the weekends are usually my enemy, that's where the mindless snacking comes in, roasting a turkey tomorrow, so hopefully instead of riffling through the fridge I will be walking around with a drumstick in my hand

Erika! Doing awesome.
Hey everybody!
How many eggs in a day? Well I had 4 medium boiled for breakfast today, but for sure as many as you want is a good answer!
Scale is up a half pound but I'm not gonna worry. It's all part of the grand master plan of the universe.
Have a great day!

May have a meal off plan today since I will be at someone else's house and not sure what will be available. Will try to make the best choice of what options I have.

I don't like telling people (even family) when I am doing any type of diet. I'm just concerned that people will tell me how unhealthy something is without really knowing any science behind it. Whether it's JUDDD, IF, Stillmans, M&E.... I find that sometimes it's easier for me to just keep the plan to myself and say things like "oh I just ate" or change the subject somehow whenever something is offered and I need to pass it up to stay on plan.

Do you guys share your eating/diet plan with your family and friends?

No, I never talk about my eating plan with anyone--except my sister.

She knows I low carb, and when I was doing JUDDD, I explained it to her because she was very obese and eager to lose. However, she's diabetic, and she could not manage JUDDD because of blood sugar problems (which Dr. J warns about). She was never able to eat low carb. Last spring, she had weight-loss surgery, is losing well, and her diabetes is controlled without meds.

But she stayed with me for a month after her surgery, and when I saw what she went through, I'm really grateful for having been able to lose 'naturally.'

As far as other people go, I never talk about my WOE. I've been to dinner parties and been able to stay low carb, perhaps not pure Stillman, but close enough to continue to lose.

Smiles! Great losses.

Sometimes I share how I'm eating but usually do not go into details unless they're seriously into weight loss. The great majority of people seem to be ignorant about low carb eating so I don't want to hear their negative thoughts on it. If I'm eating somewhere other than home I eat the best I can or do not eat. I don't have to give an explanation and don't care if people pushing food are insulted. I'm insulted other people want to pressure me into eating their stuff!

Day 1.......176.0
Day 2.......174.8.......1.2 pounds lost
Day 3.......171.8.......4.2 pounds lost
Day 5.......168.8.......7.2 pounds lost

Another 3 pounds lost! I didn't weigh yesterday, so 3 pounds lost over 2 days.

Demeris,
I have one off plan meal a week. It keeps me faithful the rest of the time because I have something to look forward to. I've already planned what I'm going to eat and the day (Tuesday). I did this in August when I averaged a 1 pound loss a day and lost 20 pounds, so it didn't have much of an impact, if any.

Tstarr1414,
Sometimes I have as many as 6 eggs a day and my losses haven't suffered because of the fat content. My family jokes that my cholesterol is going gobo through the roof, but honestly I doubt it. When I'm not on plan, I rarely eat eggs, so three week stretches of going a bit egg crazy aren't going to kill me!

Erika1962,
The scale bounce can be annoying, especially with this woe where the weight should be falling off! I think it can be helpful to keep note of which foods prevent losses but not to get to worried about it. I eat as cleanly as possible so I don't get any hidden additives that make the scale pause.

Smi1es,
I don't share my plan with anyone. I am gluten free so that's the extent of what everyone knows. They think eating gluten free is how I've lost the weight. I get defensive when I feel criticized about my food choices so I prefer to avoid the topic altogether. The line that annoys me the most is when someone who doesn't know the ins & outs of my plan says I need to lose weight the healthy way. Uhm, where was this overly opinionated person when they saw me packing on the pounds but said nothing? It seems that most of society stays hush hush about weight gain but everyone and their dog will give you their opinion when they see that you're losing. I see it as envy and sabotage to be honest. If it was genuine concern, they would have said something when I was gaining. The other line I hate is one bite won't hurt. Uhm, YES, it will! I have allergies that result in painful skin lesions. But, everyone else seems to know more about my own health than I do!

Woo!
Still on plan, and I'm exercising and feeling good.

Erika, I love that image of you walking around with a drumstick.

Anonymousity--my first time living Stillman's/Atkins, I had a cheat day once a month. It turned out to be very unhealthy because I turned it into a binge. I don't want that attitude about food, but an occasional meal off plan might be in the cards, IF I can fit into some of my older clothes by the end of January. Congratulations on the 3 pounds.

Sm1les--I don't tell anyone about my plan. Everyone, regardless of their weight/health, believes they can judge my choices. I have friends who live fat free and can't understand why they keep gaining weight and why their cholesterol numbers terrify their doctors (fat free but plenty of fake food). Currently, my brother is doing Atkins and is losing weight and looking healthy. I may tell him. maybe.

tstarr--I eat anywhere from two to ten. I'm thinking about getting some chickens, just for the eggs.

hello to everyone else!! Good work! Good week!

Good morning all!

Well I am up today, but that's my own fault. Too lazy to cook anything yesterday so all I ate was turkey pepperoni, cheese, and cottage cheese. This morning I added everything up to see the sodium content...over 5000 mg . I usually try to keep it below 1500 because I have problems with edema in my legs, and sure enough this morning I can barely walk from the pain. Today's menu will only consist of eggs and roasted turkey to flush this stuff outta me!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on whether you share your eating plan with others. It's good to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. Sort of like a "secret dieter". LOL

Starzmom - I ended up not eating yesterday while I was out which I think was the best choice. The only other food available to me was chinese and that is no where near the kind of food I need to be eating right now. I ended up sipping on a sugar free energy drink and just kept busy talking and moving around so no one in my family even noticed I hadn't eaten.

Anonymousity - I totally agree with you. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt though because society and the media drill in our heads that you need carbs, you need to eat every 3 hours, fats are the culprits not sugar, and a bunch of other market schemes to sell more food/products that I think lots of us have been brainwashed to some degree. I even caught myself telling a friend last year that she shouldn't skip breakfast because it's the most important meal of the day! I don't even believe that but it came out of my mouth before I could catch myself. Scary.

Oh and yes I agree one bite does hurt! It's alot easier to walk away not having any taste than it is to stop yourself from having a second, third, or maybe just a nibble more of something once it's hit your lips.

I've thought about having an off plan meal and whether I could still stay focused and not over do it. I'm not sure yet. I feel motivated right now and I don't want to lose momentum. So I will wait and decide later.

Everyone is doing so great and I am grateful to have this forum and you guys. We don't have to strive for perfection, just improvement.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!

I actually read an article some years ago by an obesity specialist (psychologist) who advised people NOT to talk about their dieting or weight loss. I can't recall all his reasons, but he was adamant that people who talked the most also failed the most.

Personally, I've never felt inclined to talk about my weight-loss efforts, but I attribute that to my shame at having to lose weight. When I was working, almost everyone I worked with was fit and trim, and I felt self-conscious about my size--and my inability to lose.

I also agree with the 'not bite' idea. I've found from experience that I'm much better off with total abstinence from sugar or desserts than telling myself I'll have 'just one bite.' That may work for some people, but I didn't get to 300+ lbs by being capable of 'just one bite"

I had a small bounce today but I'm a bit "irregular" so that's likely the culprit as I was on plan yesterday. My hunger has been ravenous. I'm not sure exactly what it is, perhaps the extreme cold is affecting me? I ended up having my off plan meal today and it ended with that. I had rice pasta, which doesn't cause cravings in me. Anything sugary sets off my cravings so I stay away from sweets. I'll be back on plan for dinner.

Trying to get wedding ready!.... I'm in!

To be honest, before today, I had never heard of Stillman's, but I think it might be exactly what I'm looking for! I got engaged Nov. 23, 2013 and want to lose weight before I get married. I decided to wean myself off of sugar and lowering my carb intake right after Christmas and I went 'cold turkey' on 1/2/14.... I have yo-yo my weight in the past year or so and I'm ready to make a commitment to myself! If anyone has any words of wisdom or advice, I would love to here it!

Thanks!

Welcome JSCottay

He Anon, I love what you said about where were those people with comments when you were packing on the pounds. I quess they didn't want to say, I want you to gain it the healthy way

I don't share my diets with folks when I'm being good on it. Unless of course I feel a need for some critical evaluations by them. And when I'm being bad with my diet I'm just on the same page as them. No need to talk about it just pass the pizza

I'm 'cheating' on Stillman's for a couple of days!

I did my weekly 'fat' day (as I usually do with Stillman's), but I went really high fat (about 90%). It got me into really deep ketosis, and my appetite (which never leaves me) really diminished. And I lost, too.

Since I leave tomorrow morning for a 4-da, mini-vacation, I plan to do another high-fat day so that I might be much more able to restrict my eating while I'm away and continue to lose. [I would never consider doing this for more than a couple of days because Stillman-type eating agrees with my body so much better.]

I'll let you know how it goes.

So I'm not leaving tomorrow after all! Flights out of NYC on our carrier are cancelled through Thursday due to the weather!

We re-booked our hotel for the 19th, and, in a way, I'm not unhappy about the switch because perhaps now Stillman's will get me into my desired range before I leave--or at least a few pounds closer.

Also good is that when I was scheduled to leave the house tomorrow morning, it's predicted to be below zero! Now I can stay in and hibernate.

Kandi - I was a little off plan this weekend as well. I'm glad you're not letting it get you down! Today is a new day and your possibilities are endless, You can stay on plan and so can I! Here's to a great day.

Leo - Sorry to hear about your flight! Glad it isn't upsetting you too much, though.

I'm staying on plan today. All I've had is eggs. Love my eggs.

Good for you, Erika! IMO, it's better to have a little more food than to go off plan.

I think weekends are tough for everyone, so it might be good to plan a little 'treat' each weekend. That's one of the reasons I plan my 'fat day' for a Sunday. I eat generic low curb rather than Stillman, but the different food (butter!) serves as a treat and helps me keep me in check in terms of calorie level.
