So today is my official first day. I had a few issues with getting on plan! I stocked up on eggs, lean beef and turkey. I'm all set for the next few weeks at least!

I'm kicking myself for the holiday weight gain, but I'm glad to be back on plan. I want to be a healthy weight by summer so this is completely doable as I need to lose a little over 20 pounds to get to a healthy BMI.

Hi Smiles! Welcome! Stillman's can do a lot of good in a short time.

Erika..good for you! Another pound off. I sometimes retire early to avoid eating as well.

So far today HB eggs and lean ground beef.

I do this mostly with egg whites rather than whole eggs, more fish than meat, and ground, grass-fed bison as my 'red meat.'

Because of age (72) and hypothyroid, I have to keep my calories low to lose, and this is the best WOE for me.

Hi Leo41!
Good to see you here.
Yes, I can see that your way is lower calorie/fat so you could lose easier. I'll be eating some fish eventually, too. It's just beef is easier and less expensive for me. I also kick out some of the yolks from my eggs.

Happy New Year Stillies! Thanks Starzmom for starting this challenge!
I surprised myself by losing 3 pounds since I started with you on Sunday even though I cheated. So I am 174 today

Welcome Leo41, wish we could afford the bison, I love that meat. But I am just boiling off the toxins in my beef.

Welcome Smiles love your name!

Yeah Erika

Starzmom-

I avoid the yolks not just because of the fat (I actually prefer whole eggs), but I have severe arthritis, so I follow an 'anti-inflammatory' diet to control my pain without meds via diet and exercise. The yolks (and grain-fed red meat) are known to be inflammatory.

Due to age and my thyroid condition, I never lose 'easily.' In fact, right now I think I need my meds increased but due to the holidays I'm waiting for my next check up in early Feb. If I don't lose with Stillmann, it will be my thyroid that's the problem. It's happened to me before, and it can be really frustrating.

Glad to see so many people posting!

Day 1.......176.0
Day 2.......174.8.......1.2 pounds lost

I had a horrible sugar withdrawal headache night that's still lingering a bit today. Hopefully it'll leave soon!

I'm planning on having one off plan meal a week. I did this when I was on stillmans back in August and it helped keep me on track while not hindering my losses. It gives me something to look forward to when I get sick of eating the same thing for so long. I'm hoping to make it three weeks on stillmans this time. I'm hoping to lose at least 10 pounds.

Started last week on a cross between Stillman's and Atkins. 1st 4 days just ate bonless baked pork chops. Last 3 days ate a few eggs and bacon.

Weekly average a day (******) Weigh in once a week. Ketone strips every day.
541 cals
49 protein
32 fat
02 carbs
Down 14 lbs 1st week ( I know it is mostly water weight) 291 to 277

Goal 230 (lower will be better)

Leo41 - I'm hoping Stillman's works for you!
Anonymously - Way to go! 1.2 pound!
Shawmshx - Amazing progress! Good to see you!
Smiles - Never give up! You can do this.

It took me awhile to get back on Stillman's, too. Especially first few days can be hard so I will try to snack on Stillman's items if I have to. He didn't tell us to count calories and in the beginning I will lose even if my calories are high (2,000) because the water is coming off. I don't do very low calories even when full on plan, but can still lose around 1,200 to 1,600 cals/day. No need to starve. Of course those who go lower calories tend to lose faster! Depends on what we as individuals can handle. Me - I like to eat!

I can't believe I lost 3 pounds since yesterday! I know I've been retaining water due to medication, but didn't expect to see such a big drop. The only new thing I added was herbal mint tea which is a diuretic. I think I'll keep on drinking it.

Hello everyone!

Well my weight bounced up a pound today, I stayed on plan so I am suspecting it was the meatballs I made, either the beef itself because it has more fat or the seasonings. I have a bunch of leftovers too, but put them all in the freezer for a later date.

Erika-

I never look for a 'cause' for a pound up or down (one reason I only weigh weekly) because any slight increase or decrease can easily be an irrelevant water fluctuation. As an experiment, I once weighed 4 times during a single day (I took the opportunity because I had 2 doctors' appointments that day and was going to be weighed anyway. But I took the 'official' weight from my own scale.) My weight varied by 3 lbs throughout the day. The next morning, I was back at my weight of the previous morning.

Some enormous percentage of our physical bodies is just water (I forget the exact number), so 'fluctuations' based on water movement are just a natural part of our human physiology.

My point? Don't worry about what 'caused' that single pound on the scale. It's impossible to know.

Weighing weekly gives me enough accountability, but what helps most is to record that weight (I use my calendar) so that I can track trends over time.

Hello, everyone. I apologize for not posting yesterday or today. Family entanglements yesterday and a trip into the next closest city to me, today, to take care of some beeswax. Am debating switching over to Atkins sooner rather than later. I have several hectic days coming up, and it would be much easier to do Atkins (high fat, more than anything else) during my busy days, but now am just debating it in my head.

Hang tight!

Demeris-

When I'm doing Stillman, I typically do a 'high fat Sunday" each week because I find myself craving fat--and it doesn't seem to be a problem in terms of weight loss. When I'm eating fat, I reduce my protein, too--i.e., I don't just add fat to my Stillman diet; I change things to 'high fat' for that day.

It seems to work for me, and I get right back on Stillman very easily because my body seems to prefer that WOE.

Someone else who was here a while back did regular Atkins every weekend, and she lost well.

So I suspect you'll do fine with your plan. Good luck.

Anonymousity - Wow amazing three pounds in one day!
Kandi - Glad you're here!
Erika - I agree with Leo, don't worry about the one pound.
Demeris - Good to see you.

Guys we can stick to Stillman. Every day we do makes the next day easier and more rewarding. The days we do not lose are just a precursor to the days we do! Nothing works better for me. Nothing. I wish Atkins worked as well for me, but I guess the carb levels as well as calories from fat keep me from doing as well on Atkins. Plus Stillman kills my appetite better than any other plan I've tried..and my appetite is a monster!

Thank you.

When I lost all that weight 7+ years ago, I did it with two weeks of Stillman's alternating with two weeks of Atkins. The weight rolled off.

Things are different now. I'm post-menopausal, and I'm retired.

I love the simplicity of Stillman's, but my body really craves fat. I don't need more carbs, as in post-induction Atkins, but I if I don't get more fats occasionally, I fear I'll fall into a trough of bread and cookies.

I do consulting once a week, and those are 12 hour days that require me to be alert, responsive, and very, very, very patient. In the past, I found myself going through the drive through at Taco Bell. I know that my blood sugar, and my ability to play nicely with others, will be stable if I simply up fats.

So a fat day once, maybe twice, a week just might be what the doctor ordered.

Congratulations to Smiles and Kandi.

I'm hanging in there but have had more fat that any of you guys so far. I'm just trying to stay real low carb and the fat has helped with the transition, but I believe I need to lower the fat now.

I like the plan you are talking about Leo and Demeris. I will try it. First I just need to lower my fat ratio now.
