What are anyone's thoughts on cocktail sauce? I see it's allowed on Stillman's, but the lowest sugar count I found was 7 grams sugar. I bought it, but that seems a little high. I am craving shrimp and thought shrimp cocktail would be a good, quick lunch, but wanted to see if anyone here has eaten cocktail sauce and had problems with stalling. I'm just getting started and don't want to derail my progress with a dressing.

I think I had more initial water weight to drop last time, so it averaged out to 1 pound a day over 20 days, even though my loss slowed down a little at the end. And, SO far, so good at 1 pound a day, but even if it slows down to half of that I'll still be happy. I don't think it will make a huge difference that this is my second attempt. At least I hope not!

I ate a little last time and was ok. I think the key was only using enough to give my food a bit of flavor. Now I'm using pizza sauce in the same way because I can't eat anything with vinegar. (they are comparable carb/Cal/fat wise) I am willing to add in a few carbs so I don't feel like I have to choke down my food! I think I eat less than a teaspoon with my chicken.

Stills makes it a little bit easier, but at the same time, I know I won't be able to do low carb for life. It would be too restricting long term when coupled with my allergy issues. I must say, I miss rice!

Well, not as good as I'd like it to be, but I'll take 7 lbs in one week. Its a bit discouraging to have such great initial results than to see saw back up. But since today is end of week one, when I look at my total loss I feel much better Still no ketosis per the test strips though.
Food for today: Breakfast - 3 scrambled eggs
Lunch - Tuna
Dinner - Ground beef/cottage cheese/thinned ketchup with Italian spices
baked together (like lasagna without the noodles)
If I get hungry during the day, I have boiled eggs in the frig for snacks.

Any suggestions on the plan or modifications that I should make. Its really driving me nuts that I don't show in ketosis.............

Hi there,

7 pounds is awesome-- way to go!

The only modifications I might suggest are dropping the cottage cheese and ketchup. Some people can eat them with no problem but they (especially the cottage cheese) are renowned stallers, unfortunately.

OR.... is "TOM" on the way?? That might explain the slight bump up in weight?

How is your water consumption? I need to drink ALOT on Stillmans - like 3 quarts (or 12 cups) minimum!

Thanks for the response Bratty...
TOM is a thing of the past, I'm post menopausal at 53 (Amen for small favors) I have a 16oz cup that I fill 5-6 times a day. I only drink water, allow myself a small glass of unsweetened tea with my meals. The ketchup I use is the Waldens Farms one with no carbs/calories. I make my own cc so there aren't any "hidden" things in it and only allow myself 1/2 cup daily but I'll cut that out for the balance of the week and see what that does. Saturday night is going to be a "cheat" for me (its my B-Day and we're going out to dinner with the family) but aside from that I'm staying close to home and away from temptation!

Everything can affect your daily scale numbers. The amount of water you drink, the amount of sodium, the number of times you pee, whether you had a good poo or not, how much sleep you got, where you are in your cycle (if that was still an issue), whether you exercised or not and even what type of exercise, everything.

I have always been a daily weigher (unless I am eating like a pig then I become a non-weigher!) my entire adult life and I have always said you can't let the daily numbers hurt your soul. There are just too many factors. Focus on the overall trend, which is 7 freaking pounds in one week! That is an awesome loss!

For me, I gain and lose the same few ounces for two or three days then I drop 3-4 pounds over three or four days. I have a graph I use that I log my weight in daily and you can literally see the pattern. Today I am up over a pound. Could it have been something I ate yesterday? Yes. More likely it is because I haven't had a good elimination in days. I took something for that and hopefully I am heading back down.

While weighing every day is advised by Dr. Stillman, you have to focus on the big picture not the point whatevers.

You did great for week one. Celebrate that and yourself!

As for ketosis, everyone is different. I don't go by the sticks. I know when I hit ketosis two things happen. First, I get this odd, sweet, almost thick taste in my mouth. Sort of like if you drank a really sugary drink. It is there all the time now no matter how often I brush my teeth. Others say there's is furry like they never brush their teeth or even metallic tasting. Second, I decide to clean my kitchen or I accomplish twice what I normally would for work! I don't get a supreme burst of energy but I am not as tired as I used to be. Most people go into ketosis within 3-7 days. Just keep eating as you should and you will hit it.

The truth is you know what you're doing. Sometimes your body just needs a little longer to get with the game! You are doing awesome!

I do not use cocktail sauce. If I eat shrimp I make my own with low sugar ketchup and horseradish. I also only use a little bit. Maybe a tablespoon for a serving.

Cottage cheese stops my weight loss like a brick wall. High salt content may cause bloating/weight gain. Your weekly loss is great. I would not stress about it too much.

Pour through cheesecloth (I don't keep the whey though some people use it) Rinse the cheese through the cheesecloth so it all cools. Dump into a bowl and break it apart. Salt to taste then add about 1 cup of heavy cream and stir in. You can add as much or as little as you like until you get the consistency you want. It really doesn't take long to make and since I cant find whole milk cottage cheese in my grocery store, its the only way I can get it! I want to try making it with CC milk but haven't gotten to it yet The final carb count is 4 carb per 1/2 cup serving per the website I found this on (it was so long ago and cant remember where it was)
Wow, this recipe worked beautiully! I made a couple of individual servings, cause I know myself, lol!

Now tell me if you think this is legal for Stillman's...I heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream and stir in two packets of Truvia to disolve, and sprinkle in some cinnamon. I let it cool then stir that into a 1/2 cup of homemade cheese, sort of a sweet version of cottage cheese. I have one in the fridge cooling to let the flavors mingle, but I did take a little taste and it was really good. I just wanted to check with my new knowledgeable friends before I go gobbling the whole thing, messing up my diet.

Thanks for the great recipe Back on Track! It worked like a dream, my cheese is really mellow and kinda sweet and I can't wait to try it on a lean burger patty.

So what did you think of my "sweet cottage cheese" idea? Legal or no?

G, I'm new to stillmans as well. I don't see that cinnamon would harm anything as its a spice but I'm no authority It sounds good to me though!

G, no, heavy cream is not on stills. This is a lc lf woe. Heavy cream is high in fat. Stick to the allowed foods list or comparable substitutes and you'll be fine. If you need dessert type foods, this woe is going to be a bit tough.

Eta

The less you tweak, the better your losses will be. A lot of us can't lose while eating cottage cheese. Stick to the basics and you'll lose just fine.

Eta again

Fat free cottage cheese is legal on stills. It is made with skim milk. The posted recipe isn't in the qwl plan.

Thanks Anonymousity, good points.

I did buy lowfat cottage cheese, but made home made cheese today and made cottage cheese using hwc, I tasted it, and thankfully only made a little of it. The rest of the cheese I'll eat, but will hold off on the other goodies.

I have found that when I tweak and add little bits here and there to make the plan easier. It leads to needing bigger tweaks untill I fall off plan. Stay as clean as you can stand. If you REALLY need a sweet thing try a little sugar free jello.

Slight bounce up today, probably due to too much salt and not going to the bathroom. I'm ditching the salt and hopefully I'll drop a bit by tomorrow.

But on the plus side, I won a free turkey on twitter!

04/11 - 156
05/11 - 154
06/11 - 153
07/11 - 152
08/11 - 152
09/11 - 152

How is everyone else doing?

Okay, confession. I went off plan yesterday and have a celebration dinner this evening as well (its my birthday ) So bad things will happen to my body..... lol. Sunday morning, I'll dive back in full throttle until Thanksgiving day. I'm buying ground beef today and figure I'll make a Stillmans legal meatloaf, slice it up and freeze for easy availability. I went through the stillmans recipe thread on here and found a few ways to jazz up chicken and Sunday morning after church will be my "cook time" so I don't have to spend much time in the kitchen throughout the week. I'll make my cottage cheese this week with nonfat milk so its totally legal as well. Any recipe suggestions to "shake it up" a bit? Have a great weekend all!

Down 7 lbs so far! I've been dealing with a dull headache for the last two days, but that's about it, I've felt ok otherwise. Still no trace on the Keto sticks, I kinda figure it's my body. Years of yo-yo dieting and going from one extreme to another nutrition wise. I'm probably gonna take a little longer to achieve ketosis.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

I'll make my cottage cheese this week with nonfat milk so its totally legal as well. Any recipe suggestions to "shake it up" a bit? Have a great weekend all!
Have a wonderful day!

Celebrate your special day and back on that horse tomorrow, you got this!

Down another pound today, yay. This is where I was before I opened the Halloween candy and was in a sugar coma for almost a week.

Whoo free turkey. I hope you see a drop on the scale.

04/11 - 156
05/11 - 154
06/11 - 153
07/11 - 152
08/11 - 152
09/11 - 152

How is everyone else doing?
That is the one thing I loath about stillman. If you go off even for a day it takes several days to get back where you were. This time around I am not going off unless it is really special and then I am going to do the one thing I can never do. Get back on plan the next day! Stick with it. you will see a drop soon.

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a fabulous day. Good idea going through the recipes. I need to do that.

7 pounds is a great number.

I will be back later. I have to leave in 20 minutes to take my daughter to get her hair cut and I am still in my jammies.

Well, if I needed affirmation that carbs and I don't mix, this two day "celebration" with carbs has proved that. Today, I'm back at my starting weight with just 2 days of "normal" eating. It just goes to prove that this is the way my body needs! So, I'm in essence starting over again... (ugh but I knew there would be a bounce, just didn't anticipate an ENTIRE bounce....lol). I'm more knowledgeable now though and focused. I'm going to "confess" my foods here as well as weight for accountability (sorry if its TMI, but I really need to do it)
11/10 275.8

Breakfast - 2 hard boiled eggs
Lunch - 6 medium shrimp in a smidge of cocktail sauce
PM snack - tilapia filet (2oz)
Dinner - taco spiced ground beef

Have a great Sunday all!
