Good Job BrattyS and Kitty, if you're that hungry grab another egg If you're satisfied with hunger, you're less likely to slip. Remember its just that..a slip. Today is a new day!!!

Kitty, to be honest, no I was planning on doing some research to see exactly WHAT I should be feeling but while I feel great, I don't feel "different" (if that even makes sense). I may get some test strips to check (if I can find them...lol) Any tips on what it should feel like?

Ugh I feel like craaaaaaaap. This is what I get for eating candy all weekend. Major sugar and carb withdrawl headache.
I was only down a little over a pound. I forgot how much exactly. I did not write it down and by the time I remembered to write it down I had drank my morning shake. I did not expect a big number because I took milk of mag yesterday and will hold extra water for a day or two. Tomorrow will be better!

So far today I have eaten some chicken breast - it was my first day back at work after 9 months of maternity leave & I haven't really been hungry. I will probably have some tuna in a bit.

What is everyone else eating?
I vary from day to day what I eat. I always have boiled eggs for snacking or throwing into some tuna for quick meals. Other than that I eat ground turkey and ground hamburger and sometimes fish. Depends what I am in the mood for. I can not stand chicken right now so I do not eat it. Stillmans off and on for 5+ years has ruined chicken for me. lol

I think apples have about 25 carbs each. I do not know what the threshold to go into ketosis is but they may prevent it from happening.

Nice numbers so far!

My head is killing me and I can barely focus so I will be back later today or tomorrow. Everyone hang in there and have a great day!

For me I feel like absolute rubbish, I have a banging head, feel super tired and just generally out of it, I don't seem to get this 'big rush' of energy that people mention - maybe I don't stay with the plan long enough to really adapt though?!?

Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this thread! I ordered Stillman's book but have gotten so much great info from this forum. I want to join the challenge, I know I'm late but I want to do 21 days and stop right before Thanksgiving, then get back on the horse after the holiday.

My question is about the cottage cheese. So that is basically the ONLY kind of cheese we can eat on the plan right? I'm going to the grocery store today to stock up on allowed foods and just want to be sure I get the right thing. Low fat cottage cheese and lean meats.

It sounds very restrictive, but I do well with know exactly what I can eat, clean and simple. I will check back on everyone's progress and update on my own. I wish you all the best of luck and strong wills during the upcoming holidays. Thanks for the encouraging posts!

I eat laughing cow light cheese as well. I ate a LOT during my 20 pound loss in 20 days stint back in August. Its a great way to add flavor to lean meat.

Oh and isn't farmers cheese allowed as well? I need to pick up some. Its hard to find in my area, and whenever I get it, the rest of the family gobbles it up! I need to hide it better, lol.

Thanks! That's where I was confused. What is pot cheese, farmer's cheese? I know what cottage cheese is. There is a dairy farm near where I live so if that's something you have to get at a farmer's market or dairy farm, I could probably find it there. But I normally shop at regular grocery stores and Walmart. So I guess I'll start with cottage cheese and laughing cow.

Thanks for the tip, your losses are great!

Welcome! I also sometimes eat laughing cow on my turkey patties. It helps with the taste and texture.

Got the test strips at walmart for $7 for 50 strips and confirmed what I was suspicious of...no ketosis. I've read that some people have a hard time "getting in the zone" so as luck would go, it appears I'm one of those lucky peeps :P Ah well, I'll keep chugging along an eventually, my body will join up with my mind

Kitty, I think that all passes in the next couple of days before you get to feeling better and having more energy and less hunger. Today, I'm chomping at the bit for food and unfortunately I work from home so its like...right there.... UGH

I found a recipe for farmer's cheese today, just thought I'd share. I'm gonna try it. I picked up some lowfat cottage cheese today, but I figure, homemade has to be so much better for you. No preservatives and artificial ingredients. YUK! Anyway, hope you are all doing well, I am starting my 21-day challenge tomorrow. woohoo!

I always make my own cottage/farmers cheese. 1 gallon organic whole milk, 1/2 cup white vinegar, bring to 110 degrees then strain through cheesecloth. Voila' - cheese... add some heavy cream for cottage cheese or eat straight. Tastes better and lower carbs than bought

Can you tell me how you do the cottage cheese by adding cream? How much cream and when do you add it? That sounds yummy!

Oh CRAP. There's vinegar in farmers cheese? Ugh, I'm yeast free so if that's the case, I can't have it. Cheese has been giving me minor issues but my diet is down to nothing so that was the one possible bad thing I was allowing (the yeast free diet site I looked at said some are ok with cheese so you need to test it and see). I think I may need to give up all cheese for awhile. So sad.

Here's how I make cottage cheese:
Bring 1 gallon of whole milk to 110" on the stove. Add 1/2 cup white vinegar, stir and remove from heat and let it sit for 10 min to separate. Pour through cheesecloth (I don't keep the whey though some people use it) Rinse the cheese through the cheesecloth so it all cools. Dump into a bowl and break it apart. Salt to taste then add about 1 cup of heavy cream and stir in. You can add as much or as little as you like until you get the consistency you want. It really doesn't take long to make and since I cant find whole milk cottage cheese in my grocery store, its the only way I can get it! I want to try making it with CC milk but haven't gotten to it yet The final carb count is 4 carb per 1/2 cup serving per the website I found this on (it was so long ago and cant remember where it was)

Holy cow yesterday was awful. I have never felt so bad starting stillmans before. I am guessing it is because I ate a small mountain of candy for 4 days straight. I woke up today feeling a million times better. I was already testing dark purple on my test strips.

Day 1 -224.8
Day 3 -220.2

Back on track I am no test strip expert but I have heard that even if you are not showing on the strips you may still be in ketosis. Also make sure you strips are not expired.
Are you eating clean stillmans or adding extras? Maybe post your foods and we can see if we can help tweak it? If you are eating really clean, maybe your not eating enough.

kitty What are you eating? Maybe you need to add a little more fat. That is usually the case when I feel really tired on stills. A high fat day usually picks me right up.

Anonymousity I do not envy you. I could never give up my cheese. Does yeast make you sick?

Hi Stillmanites!

I hope you don't mind me joining in with you all? I have done Stills periodically over the last couple of years (most recently this past September) and always had good results. I just never seem to be able to stick with it for more than 7-10 days.

But starting tomorrow, I'm IN for a 21 day challenge right up to Thursday, November 28--aka: Thanksgiving!

I've been eating Paleo-ish for a couple weeks, so hopefully the transition won't be quite as rough as has been for me in the past when I've come straight out of CarbVille.

Down another pound today!

I was SO tempted to go off plan last night. Boredom eating, I think. I'm glad I stuck to clean eating. I keep telling myself that I want to look fabulous when family sees me over the holidays. I'm already the lightest I've been in over 10 years, but want to get back into the normal weight range within the next few months!

BrattyS, Yeast gives me skin issues. It makes me break out on painful hives. My skin looked fabulous when I was on Stills last time. But, I was eating laughing cow, so it may be ok bc it is processed.

Thanks Bratty
I just bought the test strips yesterday so they have a long time to go until expiration. Yesterday, I ate hard boiled eggs for breakfast, lunch was tuna and dinner was half a chicken breast so I'm thinking that I need to add to the mix. I am drinking TONS of water and (parden the expression) peeing myself to death!~ Any help would be appreciated!
I did put salsa on my chicken breast (2carb for my serving)

Down another pound today!

I was SO tempted to go off plan last night. Boredom eating, I think. I'm glad I stuck to clean eating. I keep telling myself that I want to look fabulous when family sees me over the holidays. I'm already the lightest I've been in over 10 years, but want to get back into the normal weight range within the next few months!

BrattyS, Yeast gives me skin issues. It makes me break out on painful hives. My skin looked fabulous when I was on Stills last time. But, I was eating laughing cow, so it may be ok bc it is processed.
It would be so hard trying to manage food issues like that. I guess eating stillmans makes it a lot easier.

Your meals look great. They only thing I can think of trying is maybe eat a little more or just wait it out a few days more and see if it is just your body adjusting. You might be in ketosis and it just isn't showing on the strips. Try first morning urine?

Thanks BrattyS! I bought some Keto sticks today. I'm gonna try them Saturday morning! Do you think that's long enough or should I give it longer for ketosis to kick in?

I think everyone is different. The first couple of times I did stillmans it took me about 4 days. Now I am in by the end of the second day.
