Just wanted to do a quick check in. I haven't read every single post in complete detail as I'm still in a bit of time crunch, but I do want to cheer you all on. The right kind of support seems so important in becoming your best self.

It has definitely been a rough ride for me the last month or two, but I think I'm starting to adjust and put a positive spin on it. I feel like I'm becoming stronger as a person and I'm closer than ever to the immediate people in my life. All I can say is, thank heaven for my husband and my son. As much as they drive me nuts sometimes and generally complicate everything, they really do ground me and make life worthwhile.

Thankfully some good things are happening in addition to all the stress and worries - hubby has resigned his soul-sapping current position for a fabulous new opportunity at a company he's super excited about, some long-anticipated house upgrades are finally happening, fun travel plans for the summer are taking shape, kiddo is doing well, etc. I'm feeling super grateful overall and don't take a single moment for granted!

As for releasing the extra lbs, I've completely let go of the idea of a quick fix. My body just doesn't work like that anymore unfortunately so I'm just trying to make good choices consistently, rather than focusing on some hazy long-term goal that keeps shifting every time reality gets the better of me. I'm also doing my best to simply move as much as possible, even if I don't have time for a "proper" workout. Yesterday I spent all day sightseeing on foot with my guys and today I have to notch my belt tighter.

I probably won't be on the thread too much going forward except to check in from time to time, but I do wish you all the very best on your journey. Life throws us all curve balls, but clearly how we deal with them is the key. I'm still working on that

welcome newcomers! krissa, I remember you!

Turan, big congrats on those thirty pounds, you sooo deserve it!

paleo, please check in, whatever works for you!

On a lighter note, DH ran over (almost) his foot while playing with a lawn tractor yesterday. Up in the corral with the tractor running I did not hear him yelling for help downstairs in the office. I was horrified.

How to protect from this happening again? Of course, he knows exactly what went wrong so he will not repeat the actions that made the mishap occur, but it really was a wake up call.

We aren't getting any younger so I've been studying up on home safety, how to prevent accidents in the home as we age, etc. etc.

but of course, i have lost almost 3 pounds in 3 days ..

so i am highly highly motivated to keep going.

i have set my first mini goal to be 185 .. and then next goal *by June 22nd I hope) to be 175. That would be a loss of 20 lbs in 24 days.

Do you think it is attainable? Any tips? Many thanks.

My last work day is next Thursday, and I will be at a huge celebration at my best gf's house with a bunch of other teachers. I almost talked myself into waiting another week and a half before getting back on plan after being off 2 weeks. So, instead, I reasoned with myself that I will just go off for that day and get in 9 good days before then. LOL

After that, I am off work for about 10 weeks, and I really want to work hard on exercising and dieting during that time frame.

Welcome to all the people who joined Stillman's.

Thx all

Ccgirl I've toyed with stillmans a handful of times but this time w 6 weeks of Dukan is the longest. I think I made it to a month of stillmans got bored and just want back to my old ways. This time I'm 6 weeks in and super motivated to hit goal. I'm actually not weighing in which brings its own challenges, but I'll guess I may have dropped 25lbs or so just lcing and working out since January. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting back into most of my clothes by August .

Turandot my avi is an old after but I'm getting closer and closer to my after every day that passes! I'm acting liking the routine of eating the same things-it makes it a little easier w less choices. Sometimes I feel like in going to lose it of I have another turkey burger or whatever im dreading at the moment, but I just try something else.

Happy losses everyone!

More Fat

I know what you mean sometimes you just have to have more fat-and it's good for the brain. As long as your carbs are low you'll do fine-plus I think it's good to keep your body guessing. Congrats on the 14s!!!

Hello Everyone .. and all you fellow Canadians. How nice to have this group on line. You may laugh but I check and at least 3 times a day ... read other posts, and get tons of motivation from all of you. I am finding this QWL diet kind of exciting. I am down 3.6 lbs in 3 days and that is wonderful. I am not a patient person so this kind of diet really appeals to me .. motivational.

Is it really true that I can expect to loose a pound a day for the first 14 days? That would be my idea of heaven.

I have been heavy, chunky most of my adult life. Of course, I have lost weight (got to 128 while living in Nigeria in the northern dessert for two years .. haha) but quickly put it back on. I fid Atkins about 10 years ago and got down to 180 .. (from 230) .. but eventually went back up. Emotional eating and the sudden death of my first husband really set me off. In grief counselling I was the 'funny' one, who told stories of taking a bag (or two) to my empty bed with two tubs of chip dip .. I did that for two years I think .. and while it somehow helped to ease the grief, it didn't do great things for my body.

As a result, two years ago I got to my highest weight of 259 lbs. I also was feeling a little better about life in general and wanted to meet some new friends, perhaps a man or two This was 6 years after losing my husband.

I joined Dr Bernsteins which includes B12/B6 vitamins and a strict low carb diet and joy of all joys I got down to 178 (for a day or two) .... but quickly jumped back to about 185 which I maintained for a year or so. During this period I met a wonderful and amazing man, fell in love and remarried 8 months ago ... at a struggled for 180. Regardless I was happy and looked pretty good... not great .. but pretty good. Since then, the scale is climing.... Of course, we have had all that celebrating to do .. and all that wine to drink. I am terrified of losing control again, so sought out Low Carb support groups. Thankfully I found all of you and Stillmans.

I can't do WW .. or any other kind of balanced plan. I am like an alcoholic. One bite of this or that (regarldess of counting points or calories) and I am off to the races... for days.. I think there is definite truth in that new addiction research of sugar and white flours. It sure seems that way to me. I can't binge on eggs, chicken breast etc. I eat till full and am done. However so other plans leave me reading and looking at food porn and trying it out of course for days. So I love the simplicity and strictness of Stillmans - of course it is a little boring.. But so long as the scale moved downward I am motivasted.

My first goal is to get to 185 .. and then my next goal is to be 175 .. whcih is less than my new (!) husband has evern seen me at. He will be delighted..

I would love some tips on the following:

- can I really reallly expect about a lb a day for two weeks? (yes, I have trouble beleiving it..)
_ how will I manage the inevitable stalling.. or slowing of weight loss? Since i am such an insstatn gratification person .. I always have lots of trouble with stalling.
and lastly - I want to do strict QWL till June 21st - when I fly home (I live in Mexico City) to Ottawa, Canada (hello to all you felllow Canucks) .. for a month. I am thinking that I will do a combination Atkins Induction /Stillman QWL .. add some vegetables and salads .. and perhaps a few drinks at the cottage.

What do people find when they drink distilled drinks - vodka, scotch etc. which are theoretically zero carb?

And then after the one month -hopefullly maintaining 175 .. back home and back on strict QWL.

Do you experts have any tips or advice?? Many thanks.
And thanks for beign here. I LOVE reading all your posts... your successes are amazing.. and I know have been bitterly won!

Heather

Hi guys!!! I'm starting hardcore Stillmans QWL TODAY! I wanted to drop in and say hi and hopefully I'll be able to stick to this and I'll be really active on the June thread. I am hoping to lose 30 lbs over the next 30 days. I think I can do it if I stick to it every single day.

I have a question though! I went shopping yesterday in preparation and got some fat-free cottage cheese. I got it home and realized that it has 5 g carbs per 1/2 cup serving! That seems like a lot!!! Should I skip cottage cheese if I want to lose max weight in a short period of time?

Also, what is the aim for daily fat? Does anyone know what Stillman recommended as far as keeping your intake < ? grams of fat per day?

Hi .. welcome. I am not sre about the low fat cottage cheese - but I know he recommends zero fat. So it is broiling, boiling or light pan frying with Pam spray ... At least I think. I am a newbie too ..

Probably the same applies for the carbs... zero or trace is best ..

Good luck

Zero fat would be impossible, one hard-boiled egg contains 14 g of fat, for instance. 4 oz. of boneless, skinless chicken breast contains 4 g of fat.

I believe in order to achieve ketosis you must consume <20 g carbs per day (this is what Atkins Induction requires.

So, I'm assuming <20 g carbs per day is a good aim, since I want to be in ketosis. But as for fat, that I'm not sure because your lean meats and eggs will contain fat. How much is too much, I wonder?

Newbie here! Starting Stills tmrw!

Hi Everyone! I have enjoyed reading many of your posts and they gave me the push I needed to get started. Background: I'm in a wedding in just under 2 months. I have a bridesmaid dress that doesn't come on even unzipped. (My fault, I deliberately ordered too small). Plus found out that the dresses run small. It's a 12, but fits my roommate who is a 6. I'm a 12/14 in regular clothes now. 5'8" tall, 198 lbs a few days ago...I fortunately carry my weight well.

My friends give me no support with this extreme diet so I'm turning to you all! I've had great success in the past with low carb, but I've never done Stillmans. I have no doubt it will work I'm about a week and a half in already with general low carb and I'm no longer hungry so I think the transition to Stills won't be too terrible!

Best of luck to everyone and wish me well! Ill update weights.

Ps...will there be a June thread?

OOH hope you found the dress you wanted! You can do the 15 lbs. A little fat is a good thing, in food, at times. Follow what you need, it will help.

Here's a good recipe for you that will help a stall too, I made this myself and you can do it on the M/E. I've been doing ME too for a week now, I do LC my way and often do an ME or Low Carb under 10 carbs. What works for one doesn't always work for another, so you tweak it to suit your body and its needs. Good luck Turan and all. Mae

Savory Beef or Pork Steak Tips
2 lbs of meat cut up into cubes, Baste in oil flavored butter, add some Worcestershire sauce. Put meat in gallon bag. Mixed spices like chili powder, onion powder, garlic, pepper, turmeric, Italian, savory sw, etc.; toss in bag and coat meat. Let marinate at least half an hour. Bake in oven at 275 degrees to begin with for 30-40 minutes. Check meat and stir in its own juices after half an hour. Turn oven up to 300 degrees and finish baking. Check every 15 minutes or so and baste in their juices. Meat is done when they fall apart or get toasty dark brown. Serve alone or with sauce or gravy.

THese are so delish and make a comeplete meal in themselves. Basically add any spices you like, shake well. Low heat is the key here. Enjoy Mae

Wannabe, I totally agree with what you said about not being able to do weight watchers. I'm like a garbage disposal aka hollow leg syndrome. I can eat more than a 400 lb man when I'm downing carbs.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I weighed in just under 2 weeks ago at 204.6, so last weigh in I was almost down 6. I think I need to lose at least 30 lbs to fit into dress by July 27th. My highest weight ever was 235 many years ago and I got down to 185 a year and a half ago. This time is the real deal! Ultimate goal weight is 160.

Marieti you can do it!

You are already quite a bit less than you were last year .. so I am sure you can get down to the weight you want and look fabulous in the dress too!

From what I have read on this site, 30 lbs seems doable in that time period - jsut under 2 months. I just finished day 4 and finally that energy burst that everyone promised is here.. and I am not craving anything or hungry. Thank god for ketosis. Now to just watch the weight come off
You can do it .. and a wedding in July is a perfect motivator! Good luck

I did not go out and buy a bottle of wine. Phew! Weird though. Feel like I have a hangover this morning anyway.

Happy Weekend everyone!!!

Good Friday morning! One more push and then I'm out of the townhouse. My son and I moved all the furniture into storage and most of the boxes. Yesterday I loaded the car twice and took stuff to the unit. Today I'll do the same and clean and be done with it. I'm so tired and it is so hot it is hard to work. I'm meeting my landlord at 4. Did I mention that I'm tired?

I had not been on plan and had toyed with the idea of waiting until I was completely moved out. But I felt so horrible that I started back on plan Tuesday. Ok, so I took liberties like having ribs with bbq sauce a couple of times - and coleslaw once. We were eating out because I didn't have food and didn't have the energy or the time to shop. But even eating that way made me feel better. And today will be strictly low carb. Next week after I've recovered from the move I'll start adding exercise. I am so over being this weight!

Welcome to all those I haven't met until this morning!

Alcohol: Yes, it is zero carbs. But if we drink it, our bodies will burn off the alcohol before it burns fat. So while it won't set you back it is not helpful! Plus, who can drink without having the munchies, and that sets off a whole ugly scene!

Need to fit into a dress? This is the right plan! Not only does the weight come off, the inches come off too. So losing weight on this plan makes our bodies look like we have lost even more!

Ok, more coffee, some scrambled eggs and I'm back at the moving gig.
