CCGirl - I am originally from So Cal. Yeah, no NH sales tax or personal income tax, but property tax seems really high to me (though it can be really low for farmland and/or forest). In the end, you probably pay about the same taxes in NH as anywhere else, it just comes out in different ways. Maybe lower taxes for farmers, which is nice - lots of local farms, even in the densely populated South, which is where I am.

Pure kitten we all go through these moments of weakness...CC it it binging and a classic example....I have these issues as well..I went for abt a year before I ate one potato chip in my initial weight lose...now a days I still stay away from them but two weeks ago I went crazy And bought a can of Pringles salt and vinaigrette and destroyed them....did I feel shame after? Yes but I looked at the bigger picture and said if I do something like this every few months I'm ok as opposed to all the time...but I would describe it as a binge....it is something we can all identify with....u did get control which is the important thing....

Thanks to everyone for your input!
In a way, staying on this diet definitely cuts down on my bingeing because if I'm limited to meat, I will usually only eat for hunger. I'm pretty happy because I've lost 7.6 lbs so far, yay! The start of the diet is always the hardest part as I remember from last year, but I am experiencing that its getting easier and now feels quite normal now. I started writing in a journal every day, and its helped me identify ways to avoid getting off track. For example, its really hard for me to resist goodies in the freezer, so as extreme as it sounds, I try not to open it unless I have to. I just grab my meat, and close the door quickly, so I don't have to longingly gaze at everything else that's off menu. Also, I spent yesterday night reading the Dukan diet book that GT and CC are fans of. I quite like it too. Its pretty interesting, and I especially enjoyed the part that explained how the different macronutrients affected our weight. The part about drinking cold water, taking cold showers, and decreasing the temp of our houses was something new to me, but I probably won't be following that advice because I just really hate extreme cold. The maintenance part was especially what I needed to know for this time! |

Oh, and I really like Dukan's quote about how we can either eat anything we want if we stick to lean proteins or how we can watch everything we eat if we eat other foods. Its just a great motivational quote.

Daim Cake
3 C (360g) all-purpose flour - 3 tsp (1 envelope) baking powder - 1/4 tsp baking soda - 1/2 tsp salt - 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg - 11 oz (300g) Daims - 1/4 C (22g) ground almonds (a.k.a. powdered almonds or almond meal) - 2 sticks (220g) unsalted butter - 1 1/2 C (300g) granulated sugar - 1/4 C (35 g) light brown sugar - 4 large eggs - 1 tsp vanilla extract (I use vanilla paste from Trader Joe's) - 1 C (250 ml) plain yogurt - Confectioner's sugar (optional) Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 10-inch cake pan (I use one with a removable bottom). Unwrap the Daims and chop them roughly with a knife, not too thinly: you want Daims chunks, not Daims powder. In a medium mixing-bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg and ground almonds. In a smaller bowl, toss the chopped Daims with a tablespoon of the flour mixture. Cream the butter in the food processor for 3 minutes. Add in the granulated sugar and mix for 2 minutes. Add in the brown sugar and mix for another minute. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well between each addition. Add in the vanilla extract and mix again. Add the flour mixture in three additions, alternating them with the yogurts in two additions, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Avoid overmixing the batter. Stir in the chopped Daims, and pour the batter into the cake pan, leveling the surface with a spatula.

The Daim bar (originally known as Dajm in the original Swedish, and known as Dime in the UK and Ireland until 2005) is a crunchy butter almond bar covered in milk chocolate. The brand is now owned by Kraft Foods, but originated in Sweden and Norway in 1953, produced by Marabou and Freia respectively.

Hi Peeps,
I be back home. And tired. And...a bit fatter. Spent lots of time crying and eating over my brother's passing. Then on to Palm Springs. Too much of everything. But it was so comforting to be with my kids and grandkids there. The littlest one woke up at 5:30 every morning wanting Gramma Yam-Yam. So, DD texted me and I crawled across the hall in my pjs every day for pre-dawn coffee. DH caught the flu somehow and had a 104 temperature. I almost called for an ambulance at one point because it was scary. Now I'm tired. Gained 3.6 pounds. Ugh. Hopefully some water weight, huh? Today I'm just putting off all the unpacking until tomorrow. Only have eaten scrambled eggs today and my tummy is much happier for it. Wulf: ! I enjoyed reading your story. You will love Stills and I agree w/ you should read Dukan.Purekitten: Congrats on being down over 7 pounds in such a short time! Be kind to yourself. OK? Life is full of detours and we all just do the best we can. Psych: pleasure to meet you. I'm old and new again here. Don't think we have met yet. But glad you are here. Shout out to everyone else. BBL. ![]()

Oh man. I'm having a terrible time today. Eleven days of carbs at will has ruined me. My stomach is growling and I feel like eating a whole loaf of bread.
I think I need a big juicy steak or something to stop the cravings. I've had about a gallon of coffee. Usually helps and kills the appetite but not so this morning. Maybe tuna will help. Good old tuna. I gotta do something! I need to get back on track here! ![]() |

Somehow made it past the hungries. Grilled the steak but have not devoured it yet. I'm having a cup of FF, SF hot chocolate. 20 calories and seems to trick my body into thinking it's getting big time carbs.
![]() Really I have not eaten any solid foods yet today. I'm trying to fast some and hold out because I'm afraid once I start eating I won't stop. But now I have the steak all ready to go. Just have to slice it nice and thin. Feels like just the wonderful aroma is satisfying enough for right now. Oh, I stirred 1/2 tsp of CO into the hot chocolate. Wowzers it's yummy. Hot and yummy. I took some vitamins and thought this would help them dissolve nicely. Scale was down 2 pounds this morning, so some of the added water weight is apparently draining away. Yay. |
