So, I'm an oldie/newbie, right?

Got my gifts all wrapped and under the tree, cards mailed out, gifts that needed to be mailed are on their way. Whew!

Thursday or Friday is slated for food shopping. Gonna get 2 hams as there are 12 of us and everyone likes leftovers!

I cannot wait til Christmas morning! I love having my 5 grandies, my kids, kids-in-love, and the favorite of all favorites is watching the kids open gifts. It's so fun to play Santa - or Mrs. Santa!

Question: Have any of you read "The Dukan Diet" by Dr. Pierre Dukan? It's a really, really good read and very helpful. I was reading some of the many reviews of the book on amazon.com and had to laugh when a doctor (who obviously has not read the whole book, nor has he tried the plan, nor does he like LC diets at all) made a comment. He said the Dukan diet is just a Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss hybrid. LOL!

When I heard about Dukan on Dr. Oz's show and then read the book, I was soooooo happy! I thought "Dukan is Stillman reincarnated!" ha!

He starts off the preface with a story he calls "The man who loved meat" and proceeds to tell the story of the first guy he helped lose lots of weight quickly. He asked the guy what he really likes to eat and the guy said "meat". Dukan weighed the guy and told him to only eat red meat for a week. Can't remember the exact numbers, but when the guy came back a week later he had lost something like 20 pounds. He kept losing quickly until the doc recommended he add in some veggies. The losses slowed down. Interesting.

Anyway, Dukan's plan lets you add in fat free dairy which to me sounds like a life saver. He says lactose free dairy is best because lactose is sugar.

I tried Dukan's plan and lost 13 pounds in 10 days and it never came back. Even when I do his "cruise" plan which is adding in non-starchy veggies every other day, I don't gain.

Just wondered if any of you have read Dukan's book or tried his plan??

Hi Yam Yam,

I have read the Dukan book and never totally got into the diet, I always felt like the oatbran added too much carb for my body. I did go on a fantastic forum though where lots of people had had alot of success and kept off the weight and had lots of great receipes.

I do think it gives a really good explanation of the transition phase about re-introducing carbs (other than veg) and a life maintenance phase which I think I will definately refer to once I have lost all my weight

Dukan's Cruise phase is basically the way I eat now-protein, low-carb veg and a little low fat dairy. For me that will be maintainance for life. I have his book and really like it.

Cool! I think the book is full of useful detailed information about how protein works in our bodies. Love the SDA explanation. Eat 100 calories of protein and your body has to work so hard to process is you only get a net of 70 calories. SDA of 30%. I like his 4 categories of food as well. Of course, protein is the most important food.

Nermo: we all do that because we have weight on our minds!

I'm 2: Good to see ya! I'm there. It's family time. I'll hit it hard after Christmas/New year's celebrations and in between.

Today is when family time begins for us and it will get hectic so I don't know how much I'll be around. I'll try to pop in at least once a day.

Hello peeps. Awfully quiet here! Hope everyone is sticking to their guns! I really resisted temptation today, I'm telling you my husband just likes to sabatoge me. He kept saying lets' go to olive garden for dinner and I said that can't happen because I would cave in their mushrhroo alfredo pasta, so we didn't go. See i still have a problem with portion control.and just one steak without the sides just wouldn't do. Three days stillman all the way if I can keep it up for the next two days, I.would be in the gameeee. I feel it, it's gonna happen this time. I know it will. Hope u r all having a gr8 holiday.

Good morning! In just a bit I'm off and running. I have some visits to make and them I'm hanging with my granddaughters. Tomorrow night I'll spend the night at their house - they will be asleep by the time I get home after church. Sunday morning they will see their playmobil dollhouse and play with it and come to church with me if they want. Then after church we will open presents! I'm very excited!

Nermo and all who are on plan now - I really admire you. I know you feel great! Way to go!

Nermo: I feel it too! You will do it! Good job on staying away from the Olive Garden temptation!

I'm staying away from the cookies and chocolate that keep flooding into the house.

Mim; have fun! I know you will.

It's noisy and hectic here with all the grand kids but I love it!

Christmas Blessings to everyone if I don't pop in before the big day! I'm on my way to pick up my children and then plan to get the last of my stuff done! I will be cooking tomorrow and I plan to incorporate some "must haves" before the New Year.

It is amazing to me that my feeling fatness isn't making me do something. . OK. . I've been thinking about it . but now is the time for action! OK. right after that box of chocolates and bottle of wine is gone!!

Huggss. . Love to all. . .
