Bless your heart IM...

Have you ever looked at the Stop the Thyroid Madness site at the list of symptoms? If you have a bunch of those symptoms, it might be worth your while to get a more thorough thyroid testing done. There's also hormonal testing that can be done...

It's all so confusing, but what I've learned from that site and the thyroid section on LCF is that your numbers don't mean as much as how you feel and what your symptoms are.

I wish I had a doctor close by who would do the testing really needed to be accurate.

The fact that you've not been able to lose while trying could be a sign something's aout of whack...i don't know. It can really be confusing.

Hopefully your other doc will take good care of you and not just offer to prescribe pills...

I'm hoping you get a nice whoosh this weekend!! Let's stay strong!!

Do you know how embarrassing that was for me? I felt extremely foolish .. and yes.. I'm sure he's seen it all before but What the heck? I dont' know if it was my overwhelming dismay at my weight, the fact that I hate going to the doctors, the fact that someone was actually asking about me or that I have PMS . Either way.. dang scale!!!

So . .he said my thyroid levels are perfect but thought I seemed a little stressed or anxious. .ya think? He suggested more sleep (I know, right?). and thought perhaps I needed happy pills or something. . I'm not a huge fan of meds but decided they can't do much harm. . My emotions have been such a roller coaster lately and I haven't lost anything in a year. Perhaps if I felt better, I would take better care of me!

I shall not let this get me down. .I shall eat my meat and I shall curse those carbs!!!

Besides. .on the positive side. . I've survived over a week, binge free!!! That's great news!

I want to eat very clean this weekend. Monday afternoon we have an appointment with a photographer to get family pics made...it will be the first time in 3 years.

I do NOT want to have puffy eyes/face because of a carb blowout!

Ahhhhh....if a desire to be strong and healthy doesn't keep me on the straight and narrow, VANITY will!!

Meanwhile, I'm hoping to see a whoosh now that TOM is ending...it hit me hard this month. So strange, some months I don't seem to gain but this month I'm sitting at 160...if I don't drop those by Monday I will change my stats...

Hi IM - thanks! IM - do you eat ANYTHING other than meat? Do you drink 8 glasses of water a day? I'm really serious - is that ALL you eat and you're not losing??? If that's true, then you definitely have something out of whack - according to Stillman, there are people out there who don't lose and it's almost always a thyroid issue.

Hi Becky! No puffy anything, ok? Let's do this!!!!

I've made a commitment to eating ZERO carbs until I hit goal. It helps that I've got money riding on it, but I really just want to do this and hit goal already. I was 228 in Feb. Medifast got me down 60 pounds and then I went off with a vengence and regained 30. So now I need to lose 65 to really put me where I want to be. Looks like I won't hit goal until 2012, but I think that's a great year to do it! It will be my 10th wedding anniversay in August, and I'm planning on having my dress (size 22?) cut down into a sheath for our dinner.

I love how I look forward to eating my meals, not like a lunatic, but with this wonderful sense of satisfaction - I know I will love it and it will fill me and I don't need to eat anything else!

Hello to all that follow!!!!

Yes, M! This week really did throw me for a loop because I have been carb free, veggie free, fruit free . . Meat, . Meat . and Only Meat. . It hasn't always been the leanest. which is why I think I'll cut back on the ground beef. . . but it has been 100% meat!! I drink water, diet pop, coffee, and some Crystal light. .(A lot of fluids . . I am always thirsty). . I know I should probably cut the CL and pop out but I can't hardly believe that would cause me to lose nothing!!! . . I am on a low grade thyroid med and made the appointment because my weight truly hasn't budged since I started taking it a year ago.

But . . I guess if I put everything into perspective. . I dont' exercise or sleep like I should. . I really need to come up with a routine and if I stick to it and still don't lose. .then I know there is something more wrong. . Sooo. . I'm hoping that my new RX will kick in and I'll be more motivated to move (Doc claims I will). . I'm going to give it until December 11th. . If I don't feel better/smaller by then. . I will march my hiney back into the office and demand a specialist. . for now. . I'm trying to get my head on straight. . and you guys really help!! Thank you!!!

I can do this . I've done it before . . I just have to remember. . I'm a little older and a lot wiser!!. .

Confession !! Don't ask me why. . but I'm home today and thought my kids really needed a chocolate cake! I haven't played the domestic house goddess in so long that I thought it would be a wonderful treat for them with dinner. .

However, I neither licked, kissed, sniffed, slurpped or touched the batter! Yay Me. . I shall not eat any, either even though it smells like a bakery in here at the moment.

On a side note. . if I can bypass my son's Theater Butter Popcorn that he popped last night. . I can pass anything!! Popcorn is my true Kryptonite!! Holy Butter, Batman!!! .

Wow - IM, you're a better woman than I am! I won't allow anything in this house I would go off plan for - so no sugar or baked goods, period. Both DH and DD know they can eat those when they're at work, etc. You are a strong person if you can resist eating home made cake!!!!!

Have you ever read any of the books out there on Primal eating? My favorite is Primal Body, Primal Mind - Beyond the Paleo Diet fot Total Health and a Longer Life by Nora T. Gedgaudas. Also, The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. And last, The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson (and there are lots of others). All of these food plans include veggies, however, that aside, they also detail why eating sugar and carbs/gluten is not the best way to a heathly life, either for yourself or your grandchildren. I strongly recommend you check it out if and when you can.

I no longer have a gall bladder - I had it taken out 15 years ago. From that event forward, I went from 150 pounds to close to 250 when I got married 10 years ago (second marriage for both of us). I have spent most of my life struggling with my addiction to sugar and carbs, but more so the last 10 years. I have been so frustrated, I know you all understand - yes, somethings worked, but I was either always hungry or craving or miserable. This is the FIRST plan where I have been able to get rid of ALL of those issues. I am never hungry, I don't crave anything ever (that's a miracle) and I'm losing weight. How great is that???

I don't need baked good put under my nose. That I know. I'm not a saint. I'm an addict, and just like an alcoholic, you can't bring me in a bar and not expect me to drink. Just like you can't hand a herion addict a bag of smack and expect him to throw it away... I need to stay far away from those things that I could be tempted by and instead stay in the meat isle. I am definitely eating more fat than Stillman wants and I will continue to unless it stops me from losing which so far, it hasn't. It's more than possible that back in 1968 the medical profession and science had not caught up to how important a role healthy fat plays in our diets. It's the combination of fat and carbs that kills us, not healthy fat and protein. Totally different game. /lecture!

Hope everyone is having a GREAT Stillman Friday!!!!

M! Sure wish I could get the boys to keep their food out of my house. .but no such luck!! the Cake won't bother me. . it's the chicken and rice that probably will. . I hope the chicken comes out tender cuz I actually think I'm hungry. Haven't eaten too much today. . tried a boiled egg but I think it was in the refrigerator too long. Ucky! Tried some turkey and almost broke my tooth on a bone. . someone doesn't want me to eat today!! LOL. . I didn't pre-plan so there wasn't much in the house. I took pork out for tomorrow and some extra breasts which I am going to pop in the oven as soon as the other stuff is done!

Still can't do tuna. . maybe next week!

Not a bad day. . I did smuggle a few peanuts but all in all . on plan. I ate my chicken, peeled off all the skin and could still taste the "flavor" from the rice!

Aparently, the cake was not a big hit. . 1/2 of it is still sitting on the plate. . in my house, that never happens with 4 boys and hubby around! See. . so not worth my calories. . I'd rather have steak!

I'm gonna go buy me a big ole slab O meat tomorrow and I shall eat it all on my own!!! Take that Chocolate cake!

Hi IM! WOW - listen to this, I lost THREE pounds since yesterday. My body is obviously in a state of ketosis, which I never thought would happen for me, but it has. IM - I really need to explain something to you. Maybe you understand this, but I'm not sure - so here goes. Peanuts are legumes, like beans, they are full of carbs. So when your body started into a state of ketosis (takes a coupld of days to get into full rev) it was like wow, not a carb in sight, I guess we'll have to eat some of IM's fat, so let's go! but the minute you ate peanuts - the entire fat eating factory team stopped. What happened was the lead fat eater said something like Wait! Everyone stop! I see some carbs, everyone move off the fat and go for the carbs! and you completely stopped losing weight. Now, I hate to confess, but I've got a big one for you. I ate like a pig yesterday. Just so you know what I ate and lost THREE pounds eating, I'm going to give you my menu exactly:

7am: 9 pieces of thick cut sugar free Gawlenty bacon, 2 scrambled eggs, 20 oz of water, black coffee with equal.
10a: 2 hamburgers, 20 oz water
12p: a T-Bone steak (large) cooked in bacon fat, 20 oz water
2p: a small piece of filet migon cooked in bacon fat, diet ice tea
5:30-6p: a massive rib eye steak cooked in bacon fat, 20 oz water

So it's not about how much you eat, I obviously ate a TON of meat. It's about what you eat. And honestly, I'm going to make an oven roaster and I'm going to eat every shred of skin. And I'll lose weight doing it. So I want you to do something - I want you to go out and not get "a big ol slab of meat" I want you to get FIVE big slabs of meat that you LOVE - whatever you can afford - make it the most delicious, satisfying meat you can buy - and eat ONLY that and nothing else. Seriously - start fresh and eat up a ton - I don't care if you're VERY full - great. If you keep doing that, you will at some point realize you aren't very hungry and you don't need to eat so much meat. I say this as a dirt-gutter level compulsive overeater/sugar addict, ok? I'm with you in this, ok? But you can't eat ANYTHING ELSE and you MUST drink at least 8 glasses or more of water every day.

And please do NOT cook the chicken with the rice. Rice has no value other than carbs/starch, and I'm quite sure that was all over your chicken. So if your family must have rice, make a separate dish of plain chicken for yourself - and eat the skin, ok? It's DELICIOUS!!!!!

M

I'm waiting for "Wheat Belly" to come from Amazon. Have any of you read Dr. William Davis' book? There are some easy to watch clips on Youtube too...

I was having some pretty heavy carb-filled dreams this morning...the drug-like effect those grains have...pretty amazing! I was glad to awaken and know I was still clean!

Hi Becky!!!! I'll go check out Dr. Davis' book - but I've read a lot of primal/paleo books this year and it's amazing how bad this stuff (gluten) is for you and how horribly political/greedy the whole story is. I didn't do well on Paleo because my body goes straight for the carbs, so I couldn't lose weight eating veggies - but I did maintain. So as soon as I get to goal I will move over to a Primal/Paleo plan to maintain.

I dream about eating carbs all the time! We're all addicted to them (how convenient for the industry!) and breaking free is nothing short of an all out miracle given what the a majority of people take for "normal". But before the agricultural take over, carbs were not normal and heart attacks and cancers were unheard of. Absolutely fascinating!

Here's to a 100% PERFECT Stillman Saturday!!!!!

Morning, everyone. Err. afternoon I guess. . I've been up and busy this morning and just decided to take a quick break and catch up. . Thanks for the menu, M! I know the peanuts were bad. bad. . bad. . but, in my defense,. my week was pretty much carb free. however, I plan to stick 110% to my meat plan today. .

I'm baking a ham. the salt will be a killer but I"m already chugging water -= plan to only have a bite or two. .I also have chicken ready to grill. .

made an egg extravaganza this morning and some mocho/peppermint coffee. . I"m off and running!

avoiding scale like the plague.

Hey Becky! - I'm sure Dr. Davis is on the right track. But any Paleo or Primal book will give you the same basic information. Gluten/sugar combined with bad fats are what's killing us. Add in stress and you don't stand a chance. The only way to combat this is with either Stillmans or a Paleo/Primal plan which is just Stillmans with heathy fats and low carb veggies added in (and in some cases high fat dairy as well). You can take any of these plans to the next level, i.e.; organic, hormone free, free range, etc. for even better animal fats as the typical store bought variety is going to have hormones and antibiotics stored in the fat. But the ugly truth is, gluten and the nasty fats most carb junk foods are made up of are our ticket to major illness and death. Primal Body/Primal Mind by Nora Gedgaudas has a source list that will blow your socks off. It details where you can find studies and reports that go all the way back to before the agricultural take over and see how those studies compare with now. It's quite shocking, I assure you.

Hi IM!!! Please don't worry about the salt unless you already have high blood pressure. I eat salt like it's going out of style and it's not making me retain anything; jut DRINK ALL THE WATER and you'll be fine. Don't have a small portion, have a GIGANTIC portion and enjoy it. Unless it has sugar in it, then of course, don't go near it. I won't go near any meat if it's been cured in sugar or has sugar in it. If it does, it almost certainly will have carbs - BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

Ok, DH is on his way home from work and I have to get going! Hello to all that follow, I'll be back later!

Good evening. I have had a fun day. The two oldest granddaughters and I made birthday cake for the youngest. I am not tempted by cake so I just enjoyed the process. I would love for them to go gluten free and mostly sugar free, but they are not my babies. They do eat well though.

I went shopping yesterday. I wanted a new outfit to match my new hair! I tried on some pants that I really liked but they didn't look quite right. But since I'm used to clothes not looking good, I figured I would just have to be satisfied knowing that I am losing weight and that at some point, clothes would be fun to buy and look good. Anyway, I came out of the dressing room to show my daughter and she said the pants were too big! She got me the next size down and they look much better! I was just into the bigger size, so the 3.5 pound loss and the bloat loss put me in the next size down. That is fun and motivating! It will be another 15 -20 pounds before I drop a size again. But I will drop it indeed!

Oh Mim, that's fabulous!!!! I had that happen to me a few months ago when I was trying to find a suit to wear to a wedding. I brought in a 14 and the lady says "oh girl, you need a 12" and ran and got them for me, and sure enough, they fit perfectly! My brain had a hard time with it which is probably why I regained 30 pounds, but I'm determined not to that this time!

My DH and I just went to Macy's and got 2 pairs of jeans one 14 and one 12 -(stretch) the kind with all the shiny beads on the back pocket - fun stuff... I think the 14 will fit (I didn't have the courage to try them on in the store) so I'll go try them on now. And even if they don't fit yet - they will soon!!!!!

Have a great night!

Melissa

I have suits in 18 and 16 from when I was almost in onderland three years ago. They are lightweight spring clothes, so I will be in them by this spring! My clothing goal is to be organized. Oh wait! That is my overall goal! : ) I would like to have a wardrobe that gives me lots of mileage without a lot of clothes! I like that What not to Wear now shows us what the people bought for their 5,000 bucks. It is a good guideline.

MMS - when you feel like reading the board again, know that you are being though about. Take good care of yourself.

Good Sunday morning! I thought I would take a moment to check in with my friends before the day gets away from me! I'm happily on plan and planning to stay that way.

Hi Mim!!!! Keep doing this 100% and you'll be in wonderland before Spring!!!! I put on those 14s last night and they were so tight I couldn't breathe. Slightly discouraged, I went to bed determined to stay perfect so I could get into them soon. This morning, the scale showed no further loss, but just for the he** of it, I decided to try on the jeans again - don't you know those suckers went on and I can breathe beautifully!!!!!

So every other weekend we go upstate to visit my MIL in a nursing home - and this is the weekend, so, in 10 minutes we're off. It always involves taking my FIL out to lunch - which is easy - a burger somewhere. What's not easy is being in the car for an hour and 15 minutes without a bathroom. So I've tried not to drink anything this morning to avoid an all out emergency stop!

I'm bringing chicken with me just in case I run into a problem, which I might as DH wants to go Christmas shopping after we visit his parents...

Hope everyone is well today!!!!

Have a 100% perfect Stillmans Sunday!

M

Wow - quiet here on Sundays, huh? Had a wonderful rib eye at Cracker Barrel with the FIL, and the oven roaster is in!

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Good morning! How was everyone's weekend? I had a delightful thing happen - After chruch I was invited to dinner. I was told what was being served - roast beef, green beans, asparagus, mashed potatoes. I responded that I couldn't eat the potatoes but everything else would be more than enough. When I arrived at the home, I was presented with mashed cauliflower! How sweet! The dinner was more carbs than I usually have, and I had a little slip later in the evening, but all in all, a great day!
