CCGirl, I've been following Mark's Daily Apple for a while, it's a wonderful site (and the Primal Blueprint is a wonderful book). Have you read Kurt Harris's blog though (formerly PaleoNu, now Archevore). I actually like PaNu/Archevore better than the Primal Blueprint:

This is a great chart that compares the different plans, you see PaNu is that little sliver overlapping Atkins and Primal Blueprint. So basically it's primal but WITH dairy and without fruit and tubers:

I miss the prairies, I was raised in Winnipeg. Moved back to Quebec when I was 12 though.

Charleswood, suburbs! My dad used to jog to Assiniboine park and we'd ride our bikes with him, I have many happy memories of those years!

Hi Ladies! I've enjoyed following the thread! Haven't lost as of day one, but I ate ALOT of meat yesterday. Hoping for better results at the one week point. I'm the kind of person that will stay the same and then lose 7 pounds overnight. Weird.

Mar922: Have you lost any more? I'm glad we're trying to lose around the same amount of weight in the same time period.

How much cottage cheese do most of you eat? The brand I bought from Whole Foods is extremely low-carb.

WTH is up with all these new diets. I dunno, from this description it sounds like paleo?

Quote:
“The Harcombe Diet” is so simple; for centuries it was accepted as the only way to eat. It is based on the principle that nature knows best. Not the Government Agencies, not food manufacturers – nature.
I mean she says that she doesn't like processed foods, does not believe in calorie restriction, does not think saturated fat is bad, and likes Atkins a lot but does not think people need to go so low carb. So I'm thinking... whole foods, with fruit or tubers or whatever she added, but no grains.

Oh she has a free ebook here with the top 20 diet myths:

20 Diet Myths – Busted | Zoe Harcombe

I think the book would probably be a good read (her real one)

I actually first heard her interviewed on a podcast. Her book "The Obesity Epidemic" is really good!

The basic principles of her diet are low carb, only whole foods. She does allow a little bit of low glycemic fruit. What is different about her diet is that it centers around what she believes are the three causes of insatiable food cravings: food intolerance, candida infection, and hypoglycemia. The diet starts with a five day detox program where you eat all meat, eggs, veggies, and plain live yogurt. It eliminates nuts, dairy, and wheat, the three main causes of food intolerance symptoms. And it adds yogurt to help with the candida. It is obviously low carb which also helps with symptoms of hypoglycemia. The plan is pretty slow as far as weight loss goes, but it helps to take care of food cravings!

Zoe Harcombe is a british author who used to be overweight but claims she has reached and maintained a 5'2, 110 pound frame for 15 years on her own plan. She had Anorexia in high school which turned into binge eating in college. When she was at school at Cambridge, she got alot of her diet ideas from a doctor there who was an expert in food intolerance.

I suffered from anorexia for a while and eventually became a binge eater when trying to recover. Her plan helped alot to steady out some of the weird cravings and weight gain I had. It's not the best for quick weight loss, but if you follow it for a long time, your weight will definitely level out at the lower end.

This FAQ explains the diet alot! The Harcombe Diet FAQ's

I think the cause of insatiable food cravings is that my body knows that nothing tastes as good as nachos. So it doesn't get fooled by cucumber or anything... it just wants the nachos

kill me now

occasionally I fool myself with a taco/nacho salad, ground turkey or beef with taco seasoning (ask me for the homemade recipe if you like) over a bed of lettuce, onions and tomatoes with lofat cheddar, a dollop of greek yogurt (sub for sour cream) topped with hot sauce. I don't miss the chips!
