Good Morning,
Rough night....Yes, CC, I can see how my job by my description could allude to a air traffic controller, and there are some similarities....The patient is brought in under their own volition or not or I am consulting on other cases on other floors of the hospital. The patient is treated immediately or not and they taxi until they are cleared for departure..Same concept and risk of life. No, I'm kidding...It's just that some of my patients think the hospital is the grocery store where you come in several times a week and potentially stay for awhile to get what you need and then wait a few weeks and return again--labeled our wonderful 'frequent fliers'...Obviously, there are patients who truly need our services which is why I do what I do...It is always rewarding no matter how small an achievement is...I would not pick anything else to contribute to society... On another note...I am so proud of all the progress I am reading about..There are so many people who have decided to focus on their health and that is great ...It is always a good time to tackle this problem that we have all been battling for sometime whether for a short or long time...*This re-feed fever on the thread is interesting..I can see biochemically why it works from a medical perspective, but I think your pancreas/liver will adapt and adjust just like when people eat less calories than what they should and work counterproductively (starvation mode)...Our bodies remember quite efficiently and what works for a while might be deemed a victory in the short run, but in the long run watch out....Those short sighted victories could potentially blow up unexpectedly...Also, the potential of a snow-ball effect is rated high and potentially destructive... Everyone, I wish you a fabulous weekend...Take care and be good to your bodies... ![]() |

whenever I eat anyting sugar free it sounds like there are dinosaurs fighting in my tummy haha |

Once I get past the wedding,I look forward to experimenting
I still will stay on diet, due to vacations coming up, but I will have more flexibility to add veggies here or there, and see how it affects I am eager to see what the old body can handle and what it cant. My determination of steel will not allow me to gain, until I get pregnant, of course! I am glad that I know I can go to stillmans after I have a baby, and it will help me get my pre baby body back I no longer feel anxiety about pregnancy weight... I can just focus on a healthy baby ( or two, twins run in my family) |

I'm wondering about this as well. I have been eating very low calories, and exercising regularly...not hardcore exercise, but I'm definitely seeing muscles appear that I didn't have before I upped my yoga practice to several times a week. I seem to be losing regularly and shaping up a bit, which is great, but I definitely wonder about my body getting used to the low calories and having issues. I'm feeling great, have plenty of energy, and I still have over 40 lbs. to lose, but I have definitely found that I can't lose if I eat a normal amount of calories. In fact, I gained a pound/maintained this week from eating 1,300 in a day. That shouldn't happen, right? Although, the HCG diet and other medically supervised diets are usually around 500 cals a day...is that bad? I was thinking that if I built muscle during this time, that would keep my metabolism going. I just don't want to be doomed to live on 500 calories a day forever! |

I hear you Butterflymama! I recently took a week off - after nearly 4 months, with my calories getting lower and lower, also exercising 5 days per week. When I restarted Stillman's, I made an effort to keep my calories at least over 800. This morning I weighed in 4 lbs thinner - the second week of restart, the first week I lost 8lbs, 7 of which was regain from the week off!! I'm not sure if it's necessary to take a break but it seems to have worked for me. I certainly don't think a realistic long term WOE would be 500 calories a day. By the way, today is especially sweet since I'm officially 102lbs thinner than when I started this whole thing last summer. I weighed an astounding 256lbs in July 2010 (this is what happens when you avoid the scale!), lost 30lbs with Atkins, hit a plateau, jumped on the Stillman bandwagon and lost the rest! Yeah me! I honestly like the weight I'm at now but I sort of want to see if I can get to Dr. Stillman's recommended weight - naturally I'm not sure if 133lbs would work for me, or if I can easily maintain it but hey, I wouldn't mind gettin there! |

I don't ever intend to ruin my body with pregnancy---as in I intend to gain as little as poss and to go right back to QWL after!! It can't be a pass for me to eat everything I want!! (lecturing myself here!!) I think I'll prob eat more carbs though. And I intend to work out hard for as long as I can and then keep up Pilates and Call.........................now having said all that I'll prob be back here with a ton (literally!) to lose! Ha!

Butterffply-I thought that too about being able to built muscle--but I keep reading that you can't build anything, muscle or fat, with a calorie deficit. Dunno. I can see muscles, but I'm thinking maybe they were there just hidden!! I think the best we can do is preserve muscle mass while we're losing!!
And yup I do kinda think we're slightly doomed to having to stay low cal--for a while anyway. dukan talks about it and I think he's right. |
