Azteca Linda Corp. Recalls QUESO FRESCO and QUESO HEBRA Because of Possible Risk of Health
Thu, 01 Jul 2010 18:56:00 -0500

Azteca Linda Corp. of Brooklyn, NY, is recalling QUESO FRESCO (FRESH WHITE CHEESE) and QUESO HEBRA (FRESH WHITE STRING CHEESE) with an expiration date of July 7, 2010 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

from my Dad-
The 1st Affair

A married man was having an affair
with his secretary.

One day they went to her place

and made love all afternoon.

Exhausted, they fell asleep

and woke up at 8 PM.

The man hurriedly dressed

and told his lover to take his shoes

outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.

He put on his shoes and drove home.

'Where have you been?' his wife demanded.

'I can't lie to you,' he replied,

'I'm having an affair with my secretary.

We had sex all afternoon.'

She looked down at his shoes and said:

'You lying *******!

You've been playing golf!'

The 2nd Affair

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters

but always talked about having a son.

They decided to try one last time

for the son they always wanted.

The wife got pregnant

and delivered a healthy baby boy.

The joyful father rushed to the nursery

to see his new son.

He was horrified at the ugliest child

he had ever seen .

He told his wife: 'There's no way I can

be the father of this baby.

Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered!

Have you been fooling around behind my back?'

The wife smiled sweetly and replied:

'No, not this time!'

The 3rd Affair

A mortician was workin g late one night.

He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz,

about to be cremated,

and made a startling discovery.

Schwartz had the largest private part

he had ever seen!

'I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz,' the mortician

commented, 'I can't allow you to be cremated

with such an impressive private part.

It must be saved for posterity.'

So, he removed it,

stuffed it into his briefcase,

and took it home.

'I have something to show

you won't believe,' he said to his wife,

opening his briefcase.

'My God!' the wife exclaimed,

'Schwartz is dead!'

The 4th & Best Affair

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside.

He looked up and said weakly:

'I have something I must confess.'

'There's no need to, 'his wife replied.

'No,' he insisted,

'I want to die in peace.

I slept with your sister, your best friend,

her best friend, and your mother!'

'I know,' she replied. 'Now just rest and let the poison work.'
and, finally........

okay i don't log in for the weekend and we have 11 pages! holy cow!...mmm COW
I go to the doc on the 9th. The surgeon is putting me on a special diet called the serotonin diet. I looked it up and it is pretty good from what i can tell. He is also going to give me something to speed up my metabolism. The insurance company wants to see a significant amount of weight loss in a short period of time under doctors orders. I will still be logging in here. My goals have not changed one bit! as a matter of fact the serotonin diet promotes low carb eating, so i will most likely still eat tuna!

LR I hope this is not the diet your doc recommended....it looks like a major no no:

The Serotonin Power Diet
By Judith J. Wurtman, PhD, and Nina T. Frusztajer, MD

Boost Serotonin to switch off your appetite and turn on a good mood.
Eat carbs—nature's own appetite suppressant—to stop emotional overeating and halt antidepressant-associated weight gain. This research-based diet helps you lose weight and improve your mood.

Serotonin is the brain's natural "feel good" chemical and appetite suppressant. Through decades of medical research at MIT, Judy's husband Richard J. Wurtman, MD, discovered that your brain makes serotonin when you eat foods such as pretzels, pasta, rice, and potatoes—in the right amounts, at the right times of the day, and without protein. Judy discovered that serotonin curbs your appetite, restores mental energy, and soothes emotional stress.

OMG I can't believe my eyes......eat carbs to curb appetite? Natures appetite suppressant? What are they snorting??

The Feel-Good Diet and The Serotonin Power Diet. While both of these books tell us that our food choices can affect our moods as well as our weight, they take radically different approaches to correcting the problem. One we liked, one we didn’t.

the serotonin diet they are putting me on is not one that includes eating at certain times or eating carbs. The diet I'm going on includes eating low carb foods and taking a prescribed serotonin boosting medication.

The diets out on the net are crazy!

It just blows me away that these people are doctors and they get this crap published. And we wonder where this morbid obesity/juvenile diabetes is coming from.

Hi peeps! Sorry to go awol. I'm back though. Life got in the way of things. I haven't been on Stillmans but I'm back on low carb today (already had cheese, so not Stillman's). I'll continue with Stillman's for the rest of the week, but then I'm going to Valencia for the weekend, so will probably not be eating low carb. I haven't been bingeing, which is a big improvement, and I'm feeling much more relaxed about weight loss and body image. Yes, I want to lose more, but I'm not too stressed about it. I'll do Stillman's when I can, but I'm not going to beat myself up when I don't follow it. And I will be making sure that the scales are going down, not up!

Anyway, I decided to go for a different job in the end, and I'm going to sign the contract this afternoon. But it doesn't officially start until October, so I need to find somthing to keep me going for the next few months. I'm loving Madrid though!

XLNT news, Kam. A good job, I hope. Have you found a more permanent place to let?

I like your take on the WL method. As the scales go down I am feeling more in control and less likely to beat myself up, too.

Hi CC! We've been looking at some places on the net, but we won't move from my boyfriend's current flat until end of August as we can save a bit before moving. Thanks for that Valencia link! Last time I went it was winter. I'm looking forward to some beach time this time round (though there will be little to no possibility of me getting in a swimming suit )

The intense blue of the Mediterranean laps at the enormous rock – previously a small island – on which the fortified city of Peñíscola proudly stands. A fairytale city, an almost magical place straight out of the movies, it is crowned by a Templar castle from which Pope Luna, Benedict XIII, drove the Western Schism and determined the fate of Christianity for many years. With its spectacular fortress, its steep narrow streets nestled within the city walls, its magnificent wetlands, golden beaches and the rugged Serra d’Irta mountains.

Peiscola, Spain

Ooh a templar castle..........too cool!
It sounds dreamy. Do tell us your wardrobe plans.....I still think those Union Jack ankle boots would be killer! Must wait for winter...........

Well, lasses (WTH happened to BBP anyway?) now that the CarbKing has had his breakfast I am off to provide slave labor on our 18x32' addition to the barn. Out to beat the 90F heat, I have to paint the wood that will complete the eave soffit and finally close in the place. Bug and bird free, we can finally begin moving our junk collecting out of the house. (check out my gallery BTW)

Have a gr8 day!!!!!!!!

Wow, that's some major stuff going on in your life, girl! You are doing fabulous! I hear you about the binge eating, I'm starting to understand myself better on that and go with "not dieting" during stressful times instead of "whole hog." No need to beat yourself up at all, as a matter of fact, congratulate yourself for having the cheese as opposed to a box of doughnuts!!

Hope everything falls into place for you until (and through) October. Keep checking in whether or not you are doing Stillman's or just your "survival mode." You are an inspiration to the rest of us!

Good Morning, Peeps!

So my day didn't go quite as planned and I think I'm suffereing from a food hangover right now! OMG> I slept in late and feel sore and irritable. Yesterday.. we drove 2 1/2 hours north (after we back-tracked once cuz my son forgot something he needed for the parade). . . the engine started making this funny noise, so hubby said. .that's not good. .we better turn around. . Needless to say, we broke down! So, here I am stranded in extreme heat with no shade and all this food in my cooler. . So, me and the boys had a feast while hubby went to get help. . STupid. .stupid. .stupid. .
I am really paying for it this morning. . even my fingers are swollen from the salt! OMG. .so not worth it. . but live and learn. .I'm over it and will start anew today..I am not even attempting the scale. .it will lie anyway. .

I hope everyone has a great day today.. I'm gonna work from home .. in the Air!

I went through that about twenty years ago, with Nystatin prescribed by a naturopathic doctor in another state. It was horrible but I lost 25 pounds, and got down to my pre-children weight. I know I'm probably riddled with candida now, and I actually asked my doctor for Nystatin in January, I just don't wanna go through the die-off. I know I should work up the courage to do it, and now is probably the best time while I'm still unemployed. Did you get your probiotics from one of those places that do a colon cleanse program, or just off-the-shelf?

I looked for CO this weekend but the stores I thought carried it didn't have it.

One more question about candida --- some recommendations are to kill it off slowly. Add oregano oil one week, CO another week, then vinegar, and so on. I suppose it's so it's not like what you just described.

Baby girl is at camp this week, maybe this is the right time to do a cleanse....Thinking...thinking....

Rachel, CCgirl, I would think Stilly would be okay with Greek yogurt. You put the protein/fat/carb count up against cottage cheese and Greek yogurt wins! Plus it has the probiotics which are good for anybody! I use it on Stillman's days to mix with my canned chicken for chicken salad. I wouldn't go overboard with it, but then again I don't think you should go overboard with cottage cheese either. I'm just sayin', I have lost with it. We all have to do what works for us.

One thing that you all do that does NOT work for me is the fake sugars. I've been meaning to ask, has anyone else been using Stevia? I get Stevia in The Raw, which also has dextrose in it. It doesn't seem to stall me like aspartame and doesn't have such scary warnings about it like the others. I used to be a big Splenda fan but now I'm leaning toward Stevia because of its benefits to blood sugar levels.

I think it was IM2 that brought up the point that the fake sweeteners might have a worse effect on us because our calorie/carb count is so low, we might be getting more sensistive to its bad effects.

Maybe knocking out the yeasties will make me stop craving sweets altogether. That would be the ideal answer. Thanks for letting me ramble.

I'm really debating about doing the cleanse too but it kinda scares me. . I read some of the other threads on it (and yes. . there are some mean people out there! wowsers. . ). . It is just all very confusing and I have to really wrap my brain around it. there are days, I think that is my problem but I don't really want to start another battle in my body. .It sounds as if this is something you have to continue to do. . I dont' know. . So .I know I asked. . but just taking CO and priobiotics will start die off?

I have been feeling terribly sore every single morning lately. . I just wrote it off to exercise but today I feel like I've been hit with a truck. .uggg

Coming from someone who asked for, and got, the meds and oregano oil and is still too scared to attack the yeast --- I think you should go for it! Even the aches can be caused by candida, some are saying. I'm out of the CO but I can get it today, and I took the oregano oil already today. I think I'm gonna do this! Stillman's QWL is the perfect WOE for yeast killing. There are no sugars for it to feed off of, so once it's killed it should not get to be a problem unless you binge out long-term on simple carbs.

I don't know if I'm trying to talk you into it or trying to talk ME into it.

I also don't know if I've read up enough to know how to do this, although I've been looking into it for more than a year. I do know that you have to keep your diet pretty clean for a few weeks. I think.

Hey Peeps! Scale was down another pound today... Ahhh, to see the 150s after sooo many years! I still haven't been biking, energy is pretty low still from the other day but much better than it was yesterday, should be back to normal by tomorrow, I'd think.

Just to briefly address the cleanse thing... I really can't offer any advice... I don't know enough about it, I should have actually done more research than what I did, though I did do a good amount of research, even researched it years ago when I did Atkins. There seems to be no definitive answer for what works universally. So... it's really frustrating. Some people are telling me that maybe I had food poisoning or the flu now!?!? Really? Even the candida thread on this BB is full of people who really aren't sure about anything. I just think it seems too coincidental that I would have gotten the flu or food poisoning.... And yes, aside from the proper diet (Stills) and giving up artificial sweetener, introducing coconut oil and probiotics, that is all I did. The die off sucked, but probably would have preferred one single day of feeling like absolute hell as opposed to weeks of mild die off effects. But still, not sure about anything peeps. I do know that I lost 10lbs in 1 week and that my bloated belly finally went away. But, there are lots of conflicting reports out there so all I can say is what I did and what the reactions were. Also, since Saturday, the only thing I've craved is RED MEAT! Yesterday, (thanks to the photos on here), I got a london broil and cooked that up It was delicious... Had some leftovers for breakfast this morning... So not quite stills but like I said, all my body wanted was red meat... Maybe also has something to do with TOM being here.

Kams, sooo happy for you and that you love Madrid! You definitely have the right attitude, as long as the scale is going down!!

Lisa, make sure you check in regularly, we need to know how things are working out for you!

For those who asked about greek yogurt, I can offer no advice... yogurt is one of those foods that I have never tried in my life and probably never will... it just skeeves me out for some reason!

IM2, so sorry about the break down! Did you end up making it to the parade? You're right, live and learn.... Never did like that feeling the next morning of swollen fingers and puffy face... If only we could remind ourselves of that right before we take that first bite!!

smalls, I got it over the counter at CVS 10 billion bacteria per capsule. Can't remember the name of it right now...

OK, Gwn, I might look at what my CVS has. I really just wanted to know if you were on one of those pricey 6 month programs that make the linings of your guts come out. Not that there's anything wrong with that! I just am not ready to buy a "program." Financially or psychologically. Maybe sometime down the road.

What you said really just hit home my feelings that there seems to be no sure-fire "right" way to do this. So I'm in. Tomorrow morning, QWL and coconut oil. I understand that cider vinegar is good too, but I can't remember the brand, but netrition has it, so I might order that so that the board gets some of the profits. It's the least I can do for this awesome support group!

Then I'll take the Nystatin in a week or two and finish off the remaining yeasties.

Anyone know if itchy skin is a symptom of Candida? I wake up at night from the soles of my feet itching!! And my arms and legs always have a ticklish, itcy feeling even if I moisturize a lot. My spit test is positive for yeast.

Nope. .we didn't make the parade and we tried to make the best of it by taking the kids to a beach afterwards.. Can you believe all of them were closed? Over capacity!!! so we came home and the kids swam in the pool and we grilled up brats. . like I needed those!! Anyway. . whats done is done . . I think I'm going to try the cleanse..just to feel a little thinner and back in my game. . the heat is getting to me and for whatever reason, I think that's a ticket to eat. . My carb overload yesterday is still hanging on. . it is after 1:00 and I have no stomach to eat anything but I decided to overload on water. . just can't stand the retention right now!!

Smalls, .when you starting? I think I'll order some too. . What brands are you going with. .
