Denise! Good to hear that you are doing something that sounds like it's working. It's not so much the method sometimes, it's the drive and determination to stick it out. With me, though, I'm resistant to diets so Stillman's is the only thing that works. Join in on the 10 pound challenge for June!! You can do it!

Here's the update of spending all day with Unemployment peeps. I got a surprise bonus check in November, and stupid AT&T reported it as income earned in the fourth quarter. Of course it wasn't, but it made my benefits end. I told them I can get documentation, but they said I didn't have to, some guy named John will call me and I will have to explain it to him. I will lose the benefits for one week, and that's gonna hurt.

So of course I had to smother my worries in empty carbs. I won't give you the gory details, and they weren't even all that satisfying. I did try to mitigate the glycemic impact by having some good protein and fats first.

Truthfully, I have been getting worried about getting another job, because nothing I have gotten interviews for comes close to the income I had. This week was the icing on the cake. mmmmm......cake.........

Okay done eating for the day. Menu-
B: 1 HB egg, Coffee
L: 6ozs grilled salmon
D: 8ozs grilled chicken
1 SF Jello Cup & 1 gallon H20

I had salmon the last two days because we ran out of grilled chicken at work and it was the only other option. It was really delicious and I didn't see any visible fat in it, like you often see with salmon so IDK. There's a 30% chance of rain for the rest of the night but I think I'm gonna get ready and do my bike ride. Lately, I have been averaging 15 miles, I'm kind of impressed with myself. Someone was telling me about a 60 mile bike ride they're doing for charity and I thought that sounded crazy but when I realized that I do 15, 60 does seem doable?? Maybe I can work my way up to one of those! Oh I hope TOM leaves soooon. He's been so awful this month... wonder if it has anything to do with eating carbs?? He can take the rest of this weight with him too! Al, I am doing good on the other challenge (hard butt). I think I have the highest weight loss of anyone in the group. Only 2 more weeks left though and my goal was 164 which I will not make. But I am happy with my progress.
Okay, off to ride. Check in with you lovely people later!

Oh and I am sorry I have not been posting as often... I do read all the posts though... Between the vaca with no internet and all the hours I'm putting in at work, I don't have much time to post lately and it's frustrating!

new to stillman's

hi stillman dieters!...my name is Lori, i'm new to stillman's...on my 4th day. I weigh 194 currently (I'm 5'4). My starting weight was 240, so far 46 lbs. down. I lost most of it eating low-carb. My first goal was to be under 200 lbs., my next goal is 180. I would finally like to be somewhere in the 150's. Just wanted to introduce myself...

Mustard is allowed and ketchup in small quantities - most of us use low carb ketchup.

There is a "sticky" under the Stillman's heading that explains exactally what is allowed and what is not........

Great going on the weight loss to date - we are here for support and friendship - glad you joined us!

Well, I was thinking about the thigh problem, but I didn't know how to put it into words ----- You took care of that!!! Exactly right!

Welcome Lori You are doing great! Stillman's is a great followup to other low-carb WOE's. It's tough but this group is good at helping whether you are up or down! Make sure to read the sticky's on the Stillmans site, they put the books into a concise format. The usual rule of thumb is, if it's not allowed, don't eat it. Low fat, low carb. They hadn't invented the 1 carb ketchup back then, but Stillman allowed it. The new stuff is better but don't overdo. Horseradish and hot sauce are allowed too, and give extra oomph to your fat loss.

Gwn, I think you CAN do the 60 mile! 15 is pretty impressive. That's okay to not make your goal, you are getting closer and that's what counts. Slow and steady wins the race! Or is that "loses?"

Hi ladies and gent!

I'm happy again. I much prefer weighing every other day as I always see a loss if I'm eating right. Today I weighed 208.6. Glad to be out of the teens. Already down 4lbs in June! I think I may be able to meet my goal of 22 lbs if I keep it up. Right, off to change my stats and get to work. BBL.

Gwn- The 60 mile bike ride is an awesome goal to have! You have done so well. 15 miles with ease it seems. Go for it!

Christine - Its awful what you are going through. Im so sorry.

GT- You are awesome! I think today should be International Buy Shorts Day! The world needs a glimpse of GTs long slim legs!!!! For real! Go shopping woman! In the juniors section!!

Thin Commandment #7, Originally posted by Princess Daisy (Part 1)

The Thin Commandment for today is....Slips Should Teach You, Not Defeat You

Commandment Essentials"
*Error control is the essence of weight control
*Don't say 'I blew it' if you make an eating mistake
*Don't undereat in an attempt to compensate for cheating the previous day
*Discover your predictable pattern in eating mistakes
*Use binge-busters to end cravings
*Don't go hungry
*Find something to do, such as reading a book or knitting, to help get your mind off your craving
*Think substitution, not deprivation
*Put a negative association with the foods that tempt you most

"Wouldn't it be great if there were just one thing that made you a winner at weight control? There is. One characteristic marks every winner I've worked with and eludes everyone who doesn't succeed: Those who master weight control learn from their mistakes instead of losing to them" (100).

"You may think that winners make fewer mistakes...The truth is they don't...It's how they deal with their mistakes that makes them winners. They treat a diet slip like any human error. They cut it off, see what went wrong, and take steps to prevent it from happening again...But did you ever think you could make mistakes and STILL LOSE WEIGHT -- in fact, lose all the weight you want? With the right skills, you can. Very few of my clients have perfect weeks, but almost all of them lose weight!" (101). (Man I needed this commandment today.)

The Biggest Cause of Excess Pounds Is NOT Food: "It's not even a behavior -- it's a mindset. It's a mental habit that reacts to a diet slip by giving up...When dieters cheat..this one error tends to become a reason to stop ALL their efforts at weight control. Instead of handling it like any human error -- asking, 'What can I learn from this?' -- they say, 'Well, I blew it, I might as well blow the rest of the day (or weekend, or longer). This 'I blew it' syndrome is different from the momentary feeling of 'I blew it' which we all may get after eating too much. Winners certainly have had this feeling about a particular meal or food. But then they become more careful and balance the excess with smart eating. The failures say, 'I blew it' and...their eating gets careless, and this carelessness engulfs the day and often the next day(s)...Something in you says that you might as well eat all you can for the rest of the day so you can 'get it all in' before going back on your diet. I also call this 'the last meal' syndrome and tell my clients: 'It will never be your last meal. You're not being thrown in the dungeon. There will be too much food in your life, never too little. So don't act as if a great famine is about to start'" (103).

Why the "I Blew It" Syndrome is Terminal to Diets
*Sets up an impossible tension in your life: that you have to be either perfect or a failure
*Lets your mental screen go blank, so you shut down everything that you've learned about food management
*Lets mistakes pile up, which drowns your motivation, skews your perspective, and overwhelms your willpower
*Destroys focus on your eating and weight control (Studies all show that staying FOCUSED on your eating behavior is what makes you a winner)
*Is self-defeating. It cuts off learning from the mistake and locks you into a pattern of repeating it
*Only helps you learn that you're gaining weight, which is obvious
*Ruins your chance to cut off the mistake and keep any weight gain small and temporary
*Keeps you from proving to yourself that you CAN stop and correct the error, a tremendous source of empowerment
*Turns a few minutes of unwise eating into something that will take days, months, or even years to make up for. It's not time efficient
*Paralyzes you into a mode of helplessness tht lets one mistake end up becoming thousands of calories
*Doesn't do justice to your intelligence, your life smarts
*Doesn't make you lose weight; it only makes you lose hope. Cutting off the error does the opposite: It builds hope and gives you power
*Doesn't answer the most important question of all: What went wrong in this situation, and what could I do differently?
