Fantastic!!!! Im reading my Stillman book and have been thinking of you! You really know how to keep it strict and keep the calories at bay. WTG Gwn!!!

Stillman keeps stressing over and over again, that in order to get the optimum results we have to stick exactly to his rules. (a lot of us dont, especially me ) The man hates fat. On us and in us! Most of his sample menus dont range over 500 calories, so I guess if we want 5-10 pounds this week, we'll have to all start keeping track.

I still dont get how he can say absolutely no sugar, but then allow ketchup and cocktail sauce. Of course he says moderately, but was there no sugar in ketchup in the 60's?? thats the only thing Im totally stumped on, but to follow his suggestion for QWL, he would rather us eat ketchup than have a smidgin of fat.

Im kinda stumped on the eggs too.

This book allows 2, 1/2 cup servings of gelatin, and limit gum to a few a day. He also said not to drink anything diet that has more than 1 carb. So Im guessing now the CL should be out. That is for optimum results.

Hes stickin with the eat 6 meals a day, and make sure to drink a half glass of h2o every hour, to eliminate the fat and ash...

Hes says as long as we are eating protein only, we are burning fat and not water weight.

Just throwing some stuff out there to ponder. Not suggesting that anyone cut thier calories to 500....I dont think I could..

Newbie- Dr. Recommended Stillman Diet- Need Support :)

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I have been here. I did Atkins a long time ago but made the mistake of not educating myself. I did induction seriously for three months and lost 40lbs. However, I didn't continue with OWL and of course needless to say am back up to 206lbs. I went to the Dr. and he said my blood sugar was getting high and I am borderline diabetic. He suggested the Stillman diet. I told him I had done Atkins in the past and it worked but I put the weight back on. He said that he wanted me to do the Stillman diet for 8 wks and then come back and he would help me. He said "have you ever done Atkins with a Dr.'s guidance to help" I told him no and he said he would help me incorporate vegetables, fruit and whole grain carbs slowly back into my diet to continue my weight loss and eventually maintain the loss. With all that being said.....I decided to come back to the place that was the most supportive place ever......HERE......anyone else doing Stillman diet or know if you can have ham or other lunch meats. I know we need to watch the perservatives and additives. However, Stillman is much more strict than Atkins induction and I know if I don't find idea's for quick grab foods I won't succeed. The deli ham is considered "lean". I am trying to find a book about Stillman but until then. This is day two and I need idea's. Thanks everyone you are the best group of low carbers ever! I want to be successful. I dont want to be diabetic and all the side effects that causes. Thanks in advance for all the great wisdom!

Hi Twinkie!! What a nice surprise to stop my rambling and find a new member. Welcome! I think it's awesome that your doctor recommended Stillmans. Which plan did he say to follow? Most of us are doing Quick Weight Loss (QWL), and modifying it in some way. Check out the sticky at the top of the page, but basically it boils down to lean meat. HE does advise us to stay away from anything procesed with QWL, and for some reason, he's against pork. (this stumps me) I think most of us have used pork chops or loin, but ham only in emergencies - or holidays!!!

Quick food for me is to always have stuff ready ahead of time. tuna packets, HB eggs, pre-cooked chicken and turkey!!! Some may require a cooler...thats why I love tuna!

So glad you joined us - keep us posted!

Yeah he really liked the cals low low low!!! I never got the ketchub thing either! -there's lots of sugar in it-even in a spoonfull. I do eat eggs-always for breakfast--maybe he thought the fat in eggs was magic fat and different from nasty mayo fat!!! Well he was kinda weird!! I do think drinking lots of diet coke or something woud stall you. It def always gave me cravings for more sugar. I read Atkins said no, I think!! I haven't even had sugar-free gum...I was too scared!!

Thanks for the welcome. I am excited He recommended QWL for 8 wks until I see him again. I know it will work. I just don't want to get discouraged from lack of variety. How long are you following QWL before incorporating something different. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated and I look forward to the support and encouragement as well as giving support and encouragement. Thanks for the info.

You wont get discouraged! Not with us!!! Seasonings! Seasonings!Seasonings! In the beginning thats all there is too it. After a while, you probably wont need them. Buy all the eggs, meats and fish you can think of and have lots of options on hand. Do you like cottage cheese? Thats allowed. Theres also a Stillman recipe thread to check out.

I've been doing this for a while and honestly dont know when Im gonna switch to something else. I keep telling myself soon though.. I normally up the fat to lose slower or maintain.

Stillman says: Dont be a Pelican Eater

A wonderful bird is the pelican.
His mouth can hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Enough for a week.
I'm darned if I know how the helican.

Al! thanks for the reminders! I suppose. . if I"m gonna see more success, I probably should by the book. . I have the cookbook but I don't think it goes into enough detail. . About the pork. . I'm still thinking lean, grilled is OK. .don't you? I don't think it was the other "white Meat" until the past decade. . ya think? If you think it isn't allowed, I'll remove it from my menu. . I do, however, love a grilled chop now and again. .MMMmmmm

OK. .I'll check in later, Beebs. .Opps.. I mean Peeps!

If anyone is including skim milk......this sounds good... (Inches Off Book pg. 226)

"Coffee Froth" an airy, low-calorie dessert. Combine skim milk, instant coffee, artificial sweetner and an egg white. Beat until thick and frothy. Place in a freezer until thick and cold.

Serve in elegant stemware. OK. last statement was mine for IM2....
