Thank you. I really was VERY grumpy and discouraged last week because of the loooong stall - it was so frustrating. But I did stick with the plan and WHOOSH happened over the weekend

The dog show was great - got to see some friends that I had not seen in a while. Serveral asked about Stillman's when they saw what I was eating (or NOT eating ). A couple of them may be joining us.

I am off to Texas next week and will be gone for 3 weeks () I am hoping that I can really stay on plan.

Any Low Carb Friends live north of Dallas???

Gwn- your loss is amazing!

Well, it's officially been one week and I'm down 7 pounds! That's great!

I guess the one frustration I have is that as of last Thursday I was down 9, gained 2 and stayed there for the past few days with no change despite less calories and less carbs per day.

I'm down to 1300 calories per day and about 10 carbs. Why the gain then no loss? Did my body jump the gun then get scared?

I do realize that a 7 pound weight loss is nothing to complain about so I'll keep trudging along! Let's cross our fingers that the scale gets moving!

Miggs

If you go back to last month's messages you will see that myself and others went (and are going through) the same thing. I know how frustrating it is!!

I was bouncing around a half a pound to a pound for over 10 days before I finally lost 3. Everyone kept telling me to be patient (I am NOT ) and stay on plan and the loss WILL happen (it does).

Try not to restrict your calories too much as THAT will sabatoge the weight loss. I know this sounds strange but it really is true. There is a table that says how many calories you need to eat for your size - I will try and find it and post it.

You are really doing great - we are here to help you through the frustration

Thanks, I'm pretty good at 1300 calories per day and understand that there will be some fluctuations. It's just frustrating that it happened so soon.

Well when it comes to weight loss the trainer said do what works best for your body type. He said some people do better on limited carbs, other do better on limited fat and portion control. So he didn't support it nor did he condemn it.. so idk.. just do what feels right and works i guess!

7lbs in one week is amazing!! KUTGW!!

Swebb, if you find that link, please post it!!! My carbs are very low right now but I just can't bring myself to eat more than what I already am eating!! My appetite is almost non-existent. My calories are low... around 7-800... but like I said, not sure how I can force feed myself any more when it just makes me feel nauseous.

IM, it is too funny! I refuse to do chicken in a can too! Or any other meat/fish product in a can. Doesn't seem natural... But hell, I'll do tuna in a can or pouch or whatever you put it in, probably. Funny thing is, I was a vegetarian for a whole year before I started low carbing in February. I just got to the point where I got really grossed out with meats. Idk. It's amazing what your mind can block out

Here is the link for the "Calories Needed" calculator:
Calories Per Day Calculator

It states that in order to lose weight eat 500 fewer calories a day than what your "maintenance" amount is.

Thanks for that. According to that if I eat 1300 calories per day, I'll lose about 3.33 pounds per week...Oh, but my body is a wonderous place...Calories in calories out has proved itself not to work so many times!

If I were to eat 500 less than the 2950 I'm allowed I would gain at 2450. That's my fantastic body!

Here is a recipe for that canned Salmon

Salmon 1 can, remove bones and skin (or you can leave them as they are soft and won't hurt you)
Lemon juice 1tbsp
Prepared horseradish 1tsp
Dill weed 1/2tsp
Garlic powder 1/4tsp
Salt 1/4tsp
Liquid smoke 1/4tsp (I use 1/2 tsp because I like the taste)

The amazing thing about that calculator is that I should be able to maintain my weight at 2400 calories. Which seems like an insane amount, considering my cals are 700-1300 while low carbing AND I'm never hungry. So how the heck could I have consumed so many calories that I gained so much weight in a relatively short period of time. Really gives me something to think about as far as my old eating habits! Eek!

Hi, ladies! I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack. Been a rough six months, ended up having gallbladder surgery...now I'm having to stick to a LOW fat diet...I'm talking 6 grams or less per day. So what better time to jump back on the Stillman's bandwagon! I kind of made up for the no- low-fat with CARBS, but I stay bloated all.the.time, so I am going to let them go. Bye bye!! haha

Good to see you all again!

L: 7oz lean steak, 1 T Guacamole
D: 11oz lean steak, 1.5 cups of cottage cheese with splenda

Ok, I gotta stop weighing myself...I'm starting to freak. After the 9 pound weight loss and 2 pound gain in the period of 3.5 days- no change for 4 days.

I'm going to tough it out until next Monday and check then, but, I'm hungry, tired of eating meat and eggs and I have a headache. Good parts are that I have good energy, the hunger is not the same as when I'm not eating low carb and overall I'm feeling good.

I've finally thrown in the towel and upped my stats. .I haven't weighed obsessively like I have before and I think that's giving me a license to put off until tomorrow what I should be doing today! I'm back to weighing and posting my true stats and eating only tuna and chicken!

Yes I got headaches the first week to 10 days! According to the research I read online it was a combination of the body "detoxing" from all the sugar carbs - think withdrawal here and for me it was also cutting back on caffeine. I upped my water, got out and walked a bit and took Excedrine for Migraines. After the first couple of weeks the headaches went away but I was still sluggish and fatigued.

This is the first week I have actually felt some energy (I have been doing Stillman's for 1 month). Increasing my fat intake (eating the fat on the meats, eating fattier hamburger) seemed to help with the energy BUT it did irritate my intestinal track

I am down another pound this morning......must be the residual "whoosh fairy dust"

I am really watching my salt intake - I don't salt my food or cook with it but have found that so many other things have salt in them

I did my first day of the "Couch to 5K" program yesterday

I am trying to keep it all in perspective and not let a stall (even a week long one) frustrate me so much.

The plan DOES work. For me it is easy to prepare meals. The hardest parts are getting in all my water and getting some exercise.

Here is an interesting read on eating smaller, more frequent meals:

Eating Small Meals Each Day

Smaller, more frequent meals are working for me. I think that I actually eat fewer calories this way than when I sit down and eat 3 bigger meals. For me, I feel that the smaller meals, eaten SLOWLY seem to be shrinking my stomach and I am feeling full on less food.

back LadonnaD! Sounds like you HAVE had a rough time The low-fat/low-carb is working for me and I actually feel better and feel less bloated now It took about a month for me to actually start feeling better but now I actually have some energy and I am enjoying the "meat-only" meal choices......I don't have to worry about "what else" to fix for dinner

Please share your Stillman's experiences when you get a chance.

Woo hoo! Congrats on the 1lb loss and starting the couch to 5k!! I don't salt anything and I don't think much of what I eat is salted.... But you're right, it's important, I was eating turkey dogs for breakfast and I think that's what stalled me for a bit! Agh, gots to watch everything!

I was down today too (about .8lbs). I am so dreadfully tired today. I had to close last night so I didn't get home and into bed until about 3am and then I had to be up at 9 but of course, I woke up at 8:30 for no good reason, and with a nasty headache to boot. Back at work and I have a feeling it's going to be a loooooong day, with lots of yawning included. I must say, I am extremely fatigued today... Since starting Stillman's, I am accustomed to getting 8 hours of sleep in and being in bed by 1. I definitely seem to need more sleep on Stillman's. Plus, the plumber showed up first thing this morning and hadn't left by the time I went to work so I wasn't able to get into the kitchen to make breakfast. Ugh. Tomorrow is my day off and it most likely will be a high fat day. I need it. Been about 2 weeks since my last one. Need me some fat!! Oh bacon <3

Had some tuna for the first time yesterday, since starting low carb. I squeezed some fresh lemon juice on it and OMG, it was delicious!! I can't believe I hadn't had any before then.... We've got some cans here at work, so I think I'm gonna sneak back in the kitchen and grab one for breakfast. Have a great day everyone!

Nermo, congrats!!!!

hi ladonnaD, nice to meet you!!

miggs, exactly what plan are you doing? Modified Stillman's? Modified Atkins? I would say for maximum weight loss, you should either do high fat (like Atkins), or very low fat (like Stillman's). You seem to be doing a combination of both, which for my body, would not work, it'd hold on to that fat... (i.e. the guacamole). I can lose on either plan, but I lose faster on Stillman's. So I would say, either cut the carbs, and 99% fat and stick with Stillman's QWL -or- keep the fat high, protein moderate, carbs still very low and do Atkins... I think the combination could slow your loss... but as they say, YMMV

You truly are on ONEderland now

I think that I am generally more tired right now - I think that our bodies are having to work hard to break down the fat to use as fuel. We are not getting that sugar high either.

I am finding that I need more sleep than usual as well ......

Anyone else????

I am finding that I must weigh myself and post my stats to help me be accountable and stay on track. I am using this group kind of like a combination on-line journal, support group and master drill sargent's all rolled up in one.

I am glad you are back "with us"

Gwn, I guess so, since I'm only down .2 pounds in five days. I guess what frustrates me is that regardless what plan I'm on 1300 calories per day and less than 10 grams of carbs should really give me a loss regardless of what plan I'm on. It's pretty frustrating. I mean, is 1T of guacamole really going to throw me off that much? It's not like it was 1T of sugar.

I'm trying really hard and am not seeing the results so soon. High fat with Atkins doesn't work for me because the fat causes cravings for me. I just don't know if at my weight I can go lower than 1300 calories. My stomach is literally growling all day and in the middle of the night.

I know there is no quick answer but I'd like to see at least 3 pounds per week. This is hard.

I guess either the water weight from the exercise fell off (lol because you know, that's just how it happens, it just falls off like that), or axing the processed meats for breakfast did the trick, or a combination of both. Whatever, I am over the moon! ha.

But look, I will not be greedy here because I care too much about you ladies... I gave her explicit orders to visit someone else in the group tonight!

Yesterdays menu:
B: 1 egg, 1 turkey burger, coffee
L: 3ozs grilled chicken, 1/2 turkey burger
D: 4ozs lean pork chop

I walked 3 miles and did hand weights, for my bat wings, for about 15 minutes last night.

My friend who started low carbing with me, gave up last night. We had a long talk about it and she said that she has not been feeling well on this WOL, that she had a lot of fatigue. She has been doing Atkins and keeping her fat fairly high, but within range. I noticed that in the last two weeks, she's had dark circles around her eyes and has looked very tired. Idk, that's how I tend to get after being on Stillman's for too long. Her menu seems right, but she has no energy. I didn't really know what to say, she has to do what's right for her and she decided to go on a low calorie plan. I told her if she didn't have energy on Atkins, I thought she'd have even less on low calorie but she needs to do what she needs to do. I know she's on anti depressants and anti anxiety meds and I wonder if that's part of the problem? Well, she lost 26lbs in the same time I lost 34ish, just on Atkins so she did fairly well, considering she drank one night a week. She is also more comfortable losing at a slower pace and her goal is to be 150 by Sept. 13 (she's currently 191).

Okay, off to catch up with the posts! Have a great day everyone! Oh... gotta file my taxes today!!
Gwn: Congrats on your fairy visit! Yay! Tell your friend she can go on the Internet and find side effects for whatever meds she is taking. Some anti-depressants definitely cause weight gain. Bummer, huh? She can ask her doc. to try different ones that don't. I have been taking a mild diuretic my doc prescribed and I looked that up and one of the side effects can be weight gain! Doesn't make sense since you lose water, huh? But I guess it just messes with the metabolism.
