After Stillman's/Preventing Weight Gain

After I get to my goal weight and choose a sensible eating plan (where i would start eating nuts, and veggies and fruit), Is the weight going to come back? After Stillmans I plan on eating 3 healthy meals per day including nuts, seeds, and fruits as snacks. Will I be able to transition to this way of eating without gaining the weight back I have lost on Stillman's?????

Hi Lisa! I have been wondering the same exact thing! A lot of people don't do Stillman's long term, breaking every few days - 10 days with a healthy meal. They can explain why this is a better option.

I on the other hand, have taken it to the extreme and have been on plan since July. I can't tell you whats going to happen when we reach goal - not there yet, but Stillman says to eat within the proper calorie range for your height/weight and go back to QWL for a week whenever the scale reads 3 pounds up.

Very good question. I will answer from my own experience with this program (QWL) which isn't very extensive, but nonetheless... I did gain back the weight I lost. But don't let that discourage you. I've had a very rough year and have just fallen off plan. If you already have good eating habits and like a wide array of foods (I rarely eat fruits or veggies, I really prefer processed foods and fats) then you should really have no problem with maintaining. I lost about 2 lbs per day doing this as well as IFing. It was fantastic and I really had never felt better about eating.

I would start off slowly when reintroducing these foods to your diet, perhaps a small helping at one meal a day or a snack and work your way back up over a month or two. JMHO. Good luck to you and let us know how you go!

What you should do is add back in other foods SLOWLY. Like start with 5g of veg carbs per day. do that for several days to a week. Then increase to 10g veg carbs a day do that for several days to a week. Do this gradually and expect to see some bounce up on the scales. SLOWLY work yourself up to the WOE that you prefer. Once you are eating on your preferred maintenence WOE closely watch the scale. In QWL Dr. Stillman says that you need to weigh daily in maintenence and when your weight goes up a certain amount (sorry I cant remember the exact number of LBS) You do a day or more of strict stillmans to get it back down.

Thanks for the advice ilpirata! I just skimmed through the QWL book I got in the mail a few days ago and the magic number is 3 pounds up before going to his Slim Eating Plan. (which is basically counting calories - ugh!) I plan on following the slow weekly veggie/carb increases that you suggest! THX!
