Hey everyone! I just read about 2 pages at once so I can't begin to remember everything but here goes....
*I'm def. making the soup...reading the recipe again makes me hungry! *I think we'll be fine transitioning as long as we don't go crazy. I wonder if you can stay on Stillman forever and just add a cheat day every 2 weeks or so? * YAY for Blondes! I've been blonde my whole life and my hubby wants me to try it dark. For my goal celebration I'm going chocolate brown so stay tuned * AL- Chicken legs are okay? How do you cook them? That sounds delish right now too! And anyone who scrunches their nose at you is just a hater and jealous so just smile and tell them thanks *Beth- super super excited for you with the size 2's!!! Jealous but excited!! |

Hi Everyone,
I'm glad to be home. I made it through Day #4! My pants is looser and I went down a size. I'm now wear size 46 pants instead of 48 pants. I don't know how much weight I have lost. I decided that on December 1st, I will weigh myself first thing in the morning. I have been experiencing some cramps in my side. I was not very hungry at all and I had to force myself to eat. Headaches is almost gone. I still have cravings for foods that I was eating. My plans for Thanksgiving day is to have one plate and I will be selective and stick with turkey and some veggies. Then I will get right back on QWL after I finish. No dessert. I am hoping to start my exercise program on December 1st. I think that will give me plenty of time to adjust to the diet and hopefully I will be feeling better by then. I pushed myself a little hard today at work and I feel a little lightheaded so I eased off. I went to the store after work and I stocked up on more tuna. I bought a bigger tub of low fat cottage cheese. I have been eating 1/2 cup of cottage cheese as snacks. The store is having a sale on shrimp so I bought a medium size container. I look forward to having some shrimp tomorrow! Wish me luck and I wish everyone here a pleasant evening. I am starting to believe this board is helping me to stick with this diet!! Thank you!!! |

OMG.. We have to snap out of it. . . . there is absolutely no freakin way we are going to gain our weight back. This has been pure torture. . (not really) but for as hard as we've worked.. why would we let those bad carbs take over? We all have to make an effort and become aware of our own weaknesses and our strengths (we are obviously all very stubborn. .). not everyone is the same and we are the select few that will not Gain it back. .
One of the biggest pieces of advice Dr. Atkins gives us is to stay on Induction (which I equate to Stillmans' minus the fat/veggies..) for as long as we are comfortable. Once you are ready to move forward, he recommends a ladder effect.. start by adding 5 extra carbs per day (healthy). . 1. seeds, nuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans, macadmaias, sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds 2. berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, goosebeeries and cranberries 3. Legumes, lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans and soybeans 4. Furits nad other berries such as oranges, apples, grapes kiwi and grapefruit 5. Starch veggies: carrots, sweet potatoes, peas and parsnips 6. Whole grain, oats, brown rice, barley, millet and buckwheat. The question of how high you can climb up the ladder and when you can will depend entirely on your individual metabolism and activity level (darn exercise).. Some individuals are able to go right to the top, while others can tolerate as far as starchy veggies. Obviously, we all have to think long and hard about the empty carbs and sugar we may or may not eat in the future. There is absolutely no way any of us will be able to consume the bad items we were eating when we gained the weight. It has to be a change in lifestyle. The longer I do this, the more I realize I will never be able to go back to the potato chip loving, couch potato I was! You must stay active and you must watch what you eat.. We can do it. .there are many out there that have to do it for their health. . Think of yourself like a diabetic. .(which is what I tell people every time I am offered desserts, candy or anything I don't feel like eating or drinking. ). .Can't. I have to watch my sugar intake. Most people will not try to force a diabetic dessert!! It can be your little secret!! Really, for those of you wondering about maintenance (and Yes,. I am scared of the very same thing). . .find yourself an Atkins book. (he really does a nice job of explaining the low carb advantage) or another book I found interesting was "You on a Diet. .by Dr. Oz.. ) also some very informative stuff!! The library has a ton!!! I heard (but haven't read) the South Beach Diet is good, too.. I think low carb diets are all very similiar. . the only thing I can't get beyond with Atkins is the high fat because my mind keeps telling me its bad, bad, bad! Cheese is in moderation (4 oz per day) which I think to be healthy. .but the butter and the fat are too high for me. . I just can't do it. O;. crying kid. .

We all have to remember that Stillman's is an old diet.. It works but I am sure if he were alive today, there would be tweaks. Please take that into consideration. .and as impatient as we are. . . The longer it takes.. the higher the percentage goes up that we will keep it off forever! Even Atkins suggests at last a 12 week program. . it takes 12 weeks to break a habit!!! I'm just saying. . . (Plus I'm trying to convince myself. . hehehe)

I just bought my honey baked ham....yum...is it allowed?? I also got a 15 pound turkey for free for buying it. Since my family already has turkey covered that'll be a lot of stillman days for me! What part of the turkey is okay to eat?

Hey all
i decided to try stillmans after reading all your great posts!!I started on the 14th and have pretty much followed it to a T! I mostly pick at turkey or tuna all day (no set 3 meals) and small amounts, egg beaters or egg whites and low fat cheese on some days. I drink a buttload of water/crystal light and coffee black w splenda. i feel less puffy and my stomach looks like its gone down but the scale has not budged AT ALL ![]() ![]() any suggestions? ![]() i did atkins 6 yrs ago and lost 40 lbs back then so im familiar with the whole ketosis thing...but didnt really have issues losing weight on atkins. |

Hey Lala! Good job getting on the Stillman wagon! Sorry you are having trouble. Sometimes I find it easier to plan 6 small meals that way I know exactly how much I'm eating. Keep it up though! I'm sure you'll see results!

YAY!!! for you EM!!!!
- I truly believe the water is the key!! Along with not keeping calories too low!!Welcome lala! This plan works...don't know exactly how but it does! Are your calories too low? I think the right amount of calories and TONS of water is the key. But, you said you drink a ton so...maybe its the calories. Well I am down another 1.4 lbs!!! That is 4 lbs in three days!! I am stoked! I am thinking my maintenance plan may be just having refeeds every few days...just not sure yet. I get scared when I reintroduce carbs. Yesterday I had: hot tea, WATER (tons) .5 cup of lean ground meat 1 small chicken breast Today's menu: 3 egg whites - I choked those down by the way! Chicken breast lf cottage cheese. My appetite is null and void! But, I don't want my calories to drop too low or I won't lose. Water is starting to bore me.....wondering if I should add the crystal light or the Lipton Green tea packets. Both are sugar free...hmmm...decisions decisions! |

EM: I never thought of weighing myself at 3:00 am. . perhaps I should try that. .Anything to get that darn scale to budge. . .
I think I'll purge with water today. I'm feeling a little bloated myself so I may need a water wooosshhh. . Me and the boys are going to the local soup kitchen today to help serve. We usually volunteer all summer and then again when they are out of school. At first, I had to force them (it involves getting up early) now I think they actually look forward to it. OK. .my plan for Thanksgiving: I am making a meat and cheese turkey. . really cute recipe I found online . .I am tweeking it a bit to fit my lifestyle. .\A small melon, watermelon or squash serves as the body and skewered meat cubes (I'm using sausage, ham, little weiners) alternated with cheese cubes. Stick into the melon to create tail feathers. A brown pear serves as the head with green, yellow and red peppers (skewered on toothpics) to serve as the plume. . Very cute concept. I'm going to surround it with crackers and some move veggies for those carb lovers. .hehehe. .I plan to do a fruit one, too with grapes and berries, and candy for the kids etc. . plus I'm bringing the shrimp. I think if I splurge on anything. . It'll probably be some fruit! I miss my fruit. . My plan is not to cheat but if I must, I must. . I want to make it through Thanksgiving feeling liberated not bloated! Of course, all the shopping I plan on doing on Friday should balance it all out. I ask you, why do they open the stores at 4:00 am??? Why not just stay open all night. . Last edited by IM2fat; 11-25-2009 at 05:33 AM.. |

Okay - so barring any unforeseen circumstances - I just realized I have 12.8 lbs to lose before I get to goal.
I may lower goal to 130 to allow some wiggle room! I hope everyone has a great day! So glad I can come here and share my weird eating habits! |

Hi Dlyons - You are so on the right track. I like that you're listening to what your body is telling you and you have a really good grip on how this whole thing works. You don't need luck. You are doing a great job. Good plan for the holidays. I can't wait to hear your results on the 1st!
IM2 - You are soooo right! Im snapping out of it! Its the little devil inside of me that just has to complain even though everything is going so well. I read DANDR years ago, but it was really nice of you to recap the facts. The first rung you mentioned were nuts. I have been craving them so badly since the weekend (because they are sitting right on the counter for hubby every night). But I should probably add the veggies in first, right? Right. Hi Emily! Do you really want my opinion on the honey baked ham? Because its Thanksgiving and we're allowed to treat ourselves a little, I guess I would say yes. AND because you are already at a very healthy weight and looking great, I would say yes. BUT if this were any other day, I would have suggested to skip the "honey" ham and go for the turkey. Even the plain smoked hams are usually brined/injected with some form of sugar and that would defeat all of our hard work every other day. Maybe you could leave the "honey glaze" on the side, if thats an option?? Just a thought. Congrats on yet another loss! You are proving that even the low weights can drop it quick! Nice job! |

Hi msgirl!! I see the ground beef is workin for ya! Congrats on the loss!
Welcome Lala! So glad to have you join us! You're plan sounds right on the mark but calories may be too low. I would stick it out for a few more days, and if you still haven't seen any loss, maybe lose the cheese. |

Al: I would definately start with the lower carb veggies (Lettuce, etc) . .On Atkins, you are allowed up to 3 cups per day. . Which, in our case, is a real treat! After, you start adding carbs from the Ladder. . . Whew. . I may start adding some veggies next week . . as I am still at a standstill. .But I'm not complaining too loudly. . as long as there is no gain. .I"M OK!!

I always thought nuts were allowed on Atkins-what with the high fat content!
I've decided I'm doing the "fat-fast" untill Saturday. I need something to move the scale and I don't think I can go any lower with cals. I think they have been too low for too long. Dunno! So I started this today-it's pretty yuk actually-the tiniest bits of turkey and lots of mayo. And it's 1000 cals. So we'll see--I better not put on weight!! Hopefully keeping up the exercise will balance out the extra cals.I'm gonna stick with you guys tho---you can't get rid of me that easily!! ![]() ![]() |
