warning i'm about to tell you my life story so get a cuppa lol

First of all CONGRATS on finishing day 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's 11.30am on Friday 3rd July for me cause i live in australia.
today is my 1st day and i've eaten 2 boiled eggs so far. i have grilled chicken for lunch and i'm having dinner at my parents tonight. mum usually cooks meat and veg so i'm going to either just eat the meat portion of the meal (she always cooks lean) or i'm going to just hang out with the family and not eat anything, i have come down with an awful cold and she won't get mad if i don't eat especially if i tell her i'm sick

i also gave up smoking today, i am feeling really motivated to get fit, healthy, slim and sexy! tomorrow i have a girls night out but i think i might not go as i find it hard to resist temptation when i am out (alcohol mainly) and i just bought 3 good books to read so i won't feel like i've had a crap weekend if i don't go out.

I seem to do so well during the week on plan (atkins or stillman's) and then i feel like i'm missing out on the weekend if i don't drink with my friends so i end up drinking which leads to guilt which leads to carbs grrr i am trying to break this cycle by getting pleasure out of reading books instead of getting drunk, sounds kinda nerdy but a good book seems to be something that i look forward to and enjoy as much (well nearly as much as going out with my friends).

anyway sorry for rambling on and on and congrats again for your day 1 success.

i will post first thing tomorrow morning when i wake up to tell you that my day 1 ended successfully as well! i will think of you tonight at my Mum and Dad's when they offer me wine and i will think of how proud you will be when i tell you tomorrow that i resisted!

all the best for day 2

jen

oh yeah on the weighing thing i actually don't weigh at all. i have had eating disorders in the past and was very thin (i wouldn't say i was ever skinny) and being this weight now is soooooooooo depressing that i am kinda still in denial in a way. i did weigh myself in Jan of this year and i was 195lbs (i went numb when i saw the number). i like the idea of stillmans because i know it works and fast so i don't need to worry about whether it is working or not, with atkins i spend a lot of time worrying if it is working. i know the simple answer is to jump on a scale but i am too chicken!

you are so close to goal, which plan are you going to follow when you are at goal?
have you lost much weight so far? it must feel great to be so close to goal!

do you exercise?

sorry for all the q's

First, yay for you for starting!, the diet is hard, not meant for long term but a great jump start! If you can stay focused i tink you will be very pleased.

I highly recommend exercising (I did stillmans), it is important that even though you are eating a lot less (many poeple eat under 600 cals), you need to keep up moving, even window shopping, anyhting, the more the better and the faster the results.

Lastly, good luck! keep posting!

hi remykins,
i started exercising on the 22nd june and i'm doing 5 days a week (at the moment just walks and slow jogs but i intend to amp it up), it's winter in Aus so it's cold outside but i'm just making myself do it. i used to be extremely fit and my life and identity revolved around sport and being fit and i sooo look forward to making exercise and sport the main aspect of my life again! focusing on fitness is also helping to get me out of my eating disordely thinking patterns that have tormented me for the majority of my life

what was your experience like with stillman's?

Umm, well actually, i did stilmans for a bit, but i have many deficiencies so my body doesnt work well, so i was getting rather constipated, then using unatural means to relieve myself and so on... not good. It became a bad cycle...

However i know many poeple who have succeeded, and surpassed their goals for stillmans in only 2 short weeks.. I bet you can do it. People on the stillmans thread are not as chatty as in the main room, but i check in way too many times a day, so i will be happy to answer any specific questions you may have

Jen!! OMG, how incredible that you are quitting smoking at the same time!! CONGRATS for getting started on that!!!! Are you going cold turkey? Are you using any aides to help you?

I can't wait to hear how you did on your first full day! Did dinner go well? Are you skipping out on girls' night this weekend? I have never been much of a drinker, BUT, going out with friends is a killer in terms of meals. Blah! I have had problems with that in the past, so I am limiting those as much as I can in the next 11 days!

I don't think it's odd at all that you don't weight! I am actually not ready to face up to my scale right now either, as I think it would deter me instead of encourage me. I am sorry to hear that you struggled with eating disorders. A few months ago, I had a few weeks where I touched the world of bulimia. It was horrible. But with some support, I pulled myself out of it, and am proud to say that I have not had anything to do with it since. I also started a blood sugar lowering med (I am pre-diabetic) that also took a lot of cravings to binge away. I am blessed!

When I am at goal, I will transition to an Atkins, induction style diet for about two weeks. After that, I will slowly move the carbs back into the diet, and lower the fat. Eventually, I would like to be eating a diet that doesn't exclude any macronutrient group, but will be watching the scale to see what my body likes and what it doesn't like! That's the plan, anyway. Hehehe - we'll see how it does in real life!

I actually haven't lost any weight so far. Losing 13 pounds would put me in a perfect place in terms of where I would like to be. I steadily put on some weight over 6 months, and I would like to drop it back down to my 'happy' spot. I exercise fairly regularly (5/week), but I can already tell my energy is getting WAY low. I worked out yesterday, but could not bring myself to do it this morning. I was way too tired and hungry. Some people say that exercising takes away their appetite, but it has the opposite effect on me! It makes me RAVENOUS! I am aiming to still workout 3/week, but we will have to see how that goes.

How about you? Do you exercise and are you planning on continuing it on Stillmans?

Remykins!! Oooooooh, how THRILLED I am that we have an experienced Stillmans-er to pop in here!!! THANK YOU for your advice! I was on the line about whether to keep exercising or not, but after I read your comment, I decided to keep as much in as possible!!! Yes, you are right, this diet is NOT meant for long term. Today, I woke up wanting to eat anything in sight! But I ate some fish, and told myself to be satisfied with it for the morning. I am drinking so many fluids, I'll probably float away!

I am sorry to hear that your body didn't regulate itself well on Stillman's. Does your current diet address those issues appropriately for you? How did you eat after you transitioned off Stillman's? I am ready to call day 2 a success, just because I am so excited about it!!

Yes, the diet i am on works perfectly, i have finally found WOE that fits me.
When i transitioned off stillmans i did something close to atkins induction, slowly adding in veggies and a few more carbs. With Stillmans they really want you to cut the calories and cut the carbs, relaly you should be low on cals and under 10 carbs (that is when you will get dramatic weight loss). When you are done with stillmans, remember as soon as you start consuming more carbs you may gain a tiny bit, say 1-2 lb or so because of water...
Also introduce things slowly so your body can adjust... stillmans is basically low fat meat fast. Your body burns in this order:
Alcohol/sugar
Carbs
Dietary fat
Body Fat
Protein
Atkins cuts out the first two, stillmans cuts out the first three, then you are left burning body fat (but your body is also craved for nutrients). But make SURE to drink your water as the diet can be a little stressful on the system, remember as you lose you are also releasing toxins, those need to be flushed out (it will also help with your cravings). If you feel hungry tell yourself you need a glass of water first, drink the whole thing, wait 10 minutes and then eat.

It gets easier, it really does.. that i can say. If you are following it to a 'T', then it should get easier, the cravings should subside, and you will not feel nearly as hungry. Stillmans shots you into deep ketosis FAST.

So glad you are doing so well, keep up the good work!

Wow, Remykins - that was amazingly helpful! I have never heard it said like that before - so logical!! Thanks!!!! Remykins, I am so glad that you found a way of eating that works well with your body! I am not quite sure what my body really wants. I know I will take this weight off in the next little while, so I am really searching for a way of maintenance eating. I have been low carbing for over a year, and I believe I need to find a way to bring some carbs back into my diet, and lower my fat.

I am trying to keep my calories as low as possible. I was hoping for under 600, but on most days, it's been more like 750 or so.

I can officially declare day 2 a SUCCESS! So 2/12 days are completed with great success!! 10 more days until I will weigh myself to gauge how many more days of this I will need to do!! I can DO THIS!!

Today, I ate:
- fish
- extra lean ground beef
- bison
- water water water!!!

Today, I did not exercise, but I will exercise tomorrow!!

i did okay at my parents house, i just had some lean meat and a few sugar free alcopops. the rest of the family had ice cream and sticky date pudding and i was proud that i said no to that. today is day 2 and it's 8pm i have come down with a terrible flu so i've been in bed all day, i woke up about an hour ago and had some grilled chicken.
i'm going to go back to bed now but hopefully this flu will be gone by tomorrow so i can play soccer.

Hi guys. Y'all are chattier here than on the main thread, so can I crash your party? You sound like things are going very well. Are you having cravings? For some reason I cannot kick my craving for chocolate. Most of my others (bread, even pizza) are gone, but chocolate. . . is killing me.

Soccerchic, what's an alcopop?

Hi Shelby, of course you can join the party, the more the merrier!
Congrats on losing 20lbs so far, was that on stillmans?
an alcopop is a girly drink in a bottle, do you have vokda cruisers and bacardi breezers in the States? anyway they've brought one out that is zero carbs and zero sugar and only 69 calories per bottle. i know most people will yell at me to not drink while trying to lose weight but i'd rather lose a bit slower and be able to have a few drinks on the weekend (sugar free ones) than not drink at all and be miserable. i have also quit smoking and started running again so i'm hoping the healthier i feel the less i want to drink on the weekend, anyway i'm on day 3 and still to sick to eat (i have the flu) i'm going to go to soccer but probably just play goalie as i don't think i could run around.
speak soon
jen
p.s. how's everyone else going???

Hey Shelby, and welcome!! I'm sorry to hear about your cravings. Especially CHOCOLATE cravings! I have read that a chocolate cravings can often be related to a magnesium deficiency! Do you supplement with Mg at all? I wonder if that might help...

Today I have complete 3/12 successful days!

I ate:
- tilapia
- extra lean ground beef and some lettuce

I can do 9 more days of this!!! I know the discomfort I am feeling right now will be worth it in 9 more days!!!!

Janet, thanks for the tip on the magnesium. I take a supplement when I remember it, but I think I'll be a bit more consistent and see if it helps with the chocolate addiction.

Thanks, Jen, for the explanation of alcopop. I was thinking it was some sort of frozen alcoholic concoction. Your idea makes a lot more sense. And, yes, I've lost the whole 20 pounds on Stillman's (since the end of May). I cannot tell you how amazed I am at it. I am a slow loser usually - I started at 186 last summer and it took me 7 months to lose 5 pounds with a low fat diet and a massive amount of cardio. If you can deal with the monotony of this diet, I think it's a very helpful tool. Key for me so far is to keep around 700-800 cal per day (when I drop lower than that I don't lose).

BTW, I wouldn't admonish anyone for wanting to have a few drinks while going out and having some fun with their friends. Especially someone who is kicking smoking at the same time! That's fantastic.

Hope the rest of the weekend was great for both of you.

Michelle

Hey Michelle! It's great to hear of your experience with Stillmans! Fantastic job on your losses so far!! Woohoo!!!

Today, I have completed my 4th successful day! 8 more to go!

Today, I ate:
- extra lean ground beef and coffee

I am feeling tired and hungry. This is when it's going to take some more effort and willpower from me. I can do 8 more days of this

Wow you are all doing amazingly, i'm still sick with the flu so i haven't really been doing stillman's, yesterday i only had one meal and it was not low carb as my boyfriend cooked and i just had some of his (i know, i know). anyway today i've just had some grilled chicken with a bit of lettuce and cheese. hopefully tomorrow i'll be feeling better and i can give proper stillmans a shot. congrats again you are all so inspirational, i can't wait till i feel better so i can join the weight loss party

i even ordered 3 of his books from half.com and read them, the books are even older than me!

i am 216 and i want to be 136
i will start my diet on monday 7.6.09
and post everything here
i usually weigh myself daily and try to post that here as well

Jen i hope u get well soon, usually when i have flu i drink either orange juice or sweet lemon juice (fresh) and it will go away... take care.

Welcome Katia,
You sound motivated which is good and you've experienced the stillman's sensation before so you know what you are going for.
thanks for your well wishes, this is the flu that just won't go away but at least i have no appetite with it lol

is that you in your profile pic? you are stunning
good luck
jen

Wanna join... i have 40 pounds to lose, i can make it happen. And it will be much easier in a supportive team

My starting date is 07-07 Quite symbolic, the 1st 2 weeks are strict Stillman's, then I might alternate Stillman's work days/ Protein Power free days.

Boiled 12 eggs already, and ready to start.

Best of luck to all of us

Hi Katia!! Welcome!!! Glad to hear from you and glad to hear you're starting on this plan! I can't wait to see what you eat and how you progress!!

Today was my hardest day by far. I was feeling so weak and hungry. I stuck to the plan, but finished out at about 900 cals/day. A lot more than what I wanted. Today is day 5/12 completed! Tomorrow will be the halfway mark. I hope I make it.

My Menu
- Lean beef and egg whites

Remykins!!!I wanted to ask you!! What version of Stillman's did you do?!! And how many consecutive days did you do it for? I am not sure that 7 more days will get me to where I want to be, so I'm thinking about lengthening the time I am doing this. Of course, my body and mind might rebel! LOL!!

I did the basic original stillmans (from the 70's or what not), i did it for 14 days (i think). I would lengthen it if you feel that way, otherwise it could lead to disappointment and binging. etc. I just would not make it a all day every day for the rest of your life type thing, otherwise you can lose your hair and so on. Have you measured yourself?

You have such fantastic advice. THANK YOU!! I think I will extend it to 20 days. I have not taken measurements, unfortunately. I know my body well, though, and can tell that I have only lost a few pounds. I weighed myself last week, and I had about 14 or so pounds I wanted to lose. Of those 14 pounds, I guesstimate that I have lost about 4. Thanks for the reminder that this is a temporary way to eat!!!

So my new revised goal! I have completed 5/20 days. I am a quarter of the way through!!!! Let's do this thing!!!!!!

PS. I had my username changed to Changing. (It was jjanet before).
