ugh, day two and I already went off plan! Well, it wasn't too bad...I had a low fat/low carb shake to ease my migraine. I used to have them while on Atkins, so at least I didn't stray too far...It could have been worse =(

Joining late, but joining anyways!

I haven't been here in ages! I got a divorce in January and instantly put on 25 lbs! Maybe I ate so I didn't have to talk?
Anyway, I know I'm joining your efforts late, but I really need someone besides myself to be accountable to. I'm not as motivated as I should be. I moved to Texas from my home in Utah for a great job only two weeks ago, but I'm not quite settled, or quite happy here just yet. But, it'll happen over time.
Is there anyone who is willing to be my kick in the butt? I'm not the type to drop out and dissapear when someone is expecting to hear from me. I need someone to have expectations. Any takers?

I bow to those of you already on your way, and offer my sincerest "go get em"

Thanks!

Hi Kerry,
I'm sorry to hear you are having a rough year but it's sounds like you are in a positive mind frame and that you are on your way to happiness again!
I'm not the butt kicking type but i can be your cheer leader lol
Kerry Kerry Kerry Oy Oy Oy (Aussie thing)

Anyway, i have not been able to stick to Stillmans although i've been trying for the last month because i guess my committment hasn't been 100% and as soon as i've gotten tired, hungry or wanting an alcoholic beverage i've gone off plan grrrr then it's turned into a 3 day binge so i've actually gained weight not lost....

Today is a new day though and i am sooo committed, i don't even recognise myself in the mirror anymore, i've been overweight for a long time but managed to still have a nice face but even that is gone now and i feel so self conscious, embarassed and ashamed, stillmans must come to my rescue even if it is a quick fix to lost the first 15lbs then the rest can come off slower.

I'll be on here everyday posting to be accountable, today is day 1 and i want to do 18 days no cheats cause i have a wedding to go to in 19 days.

here's to a fresh start!
Jen

Hi everyone!

I just started the Stillmans diet today. This is the first time I have done this diet. I have spent many years on and off Atkins. It has always worked for me, but I lose slow I am hoping that QWL will work great for me. I have spent most of my life dieting.

Thanks so much bearcubsden for posting Dr. Stillman's Repetition Diets, I would like to lose 30 pound by Aug. 21. I am looking forward to the help and support all of you give.

Although i dont do stillmans any longer, i know it has worked wonders for the poeple on this board. However i will warn to you that stillmans doesnt seem to be acceptable to many people in the main lobby... so if you have questions make sure to post them here first.

Hi Jen!

It's been a few days and so far...I flat out suck at this I have a brand new job where I have a huge patient load and get no time to eat. Now it seems we have meetings or in-service trainings so often that we dont get lunch - we find out last minute, and they supply the lunch. Super Stillman's unfriendly. I don't want to advertise that I'm dieting, so I eat. Not good So, I guess I'll tell them and maybe they'll be a little better at notifying me ahead, so I can prepare. It's a great team, they will understand. Besides, we're a bunch of physical and occupational therapists; it's our purpose to care about health...right?
So, it seems you and I are sort of in the same boat
I start fresh tomorrow - no excuses! I am writing a food list down and prepping everything ahead. I have 25 lbs to lose. Last time I weighed in at 157. I should weigh, at the very most, 136 according to my BMI. I am not terribly motivated, yet. I need something to look forward to. Something that forces some stress on me so I really want to see it come off. Hmmm, what to do...
Anyways, have a super day! Let me know how you're doing. Catch ya later!

Work seems to be a tough nut to crack for a lot of people...
It is difficult, heres and option, bring your own food (they make really small coolers now) and just say 'ive just had a bad bug so i am taking it easy on food, i need to eat bland' at least that would get you through the week?

When i lack motivation i look at myself naked in the mirror...
When i dont like what i see, then it helps... if you have specific problem, like eating what you are not supposed to, or eat too much, dont hesitate to ask.

Plan a trip to the beach... that is a sure fire way for me to rev up the pace. Swimsuits can be brutal.

Hi all,
Good on you for those who are going well!
I'm not doing too well, i'm trying to change my focus to fitness as this whole eating/weight thing is messing with my head and I am only getter fatter. I think there is something deep inside me that stops me from sticking to stillman’s. I have been anorexic in the past and so maybe a part of me gets scared when I too a plan that is so restrictive, it’s annoying too because in my conscious mind I see nothing wrong with doing a strict program like Stillman’s for a short period of time but I guess my unconscious mind disagrees. Any advice would be appreciated on what I should do. I could give Atkins a go, it seems to work for so many people, I just have a hard time with it cause I fight with my bfriend over all the fat I’m eating and I spend so much money on food and I don’t know if I believe it will work or if it does how quickly it will work. I want quick results cause I am sick of what I look like and I am going to be photographed at a wedding in 2 weeks (which will end up on facebook grrr)
should i do one alternate one day stillmans one day atkins and so on?
Sorry for the vent and all of my excuses, I know they are excuses but I do genuinly feel stuck! I am just so sick of weight and food and wish I could think about something else for a change but I can’t. on a positive note I have exercised 2 days in a row and I will tonight as well. This is good for me ha ha
Thanks for reading and any advice

What I find is that the die-hard Atkins people will tell you that higher fat is the way to go...its their way or the highway. There is no room for adjustment. What they fail to realize is that every body is different. Not all of us do well on higher fat WOE. I know I don't. Well, I did well on induction, and then started to gain! I had to switch over to Stillman's in order to keep on losing, and I know I'm losing at a faster rate than most of them. But I'm not going to go out there to the main boards and say how Stillman's is the greatest WOE in the world...everyone needs to find their own path, and I've found mine.

And on a side note, I'm afraid to mention Stillman's on the main board because I've seen how low fat/low carb WOE gets butchered! You're just setting yourself up for a massacre! So that's why I do most of my posting in here, that is, when its related to Stillman's.

So try and find what works for you...maybe its Stillman's, maybe its another WOE. Good Luck!

Hi Everyone

Thanks Remykins for the support and letting me know where is best place to post!

Soccerchic I wish you lots of luck it is sometimes hard to get motivated,
I know years ago when I was looking for a diet Atkins was where I was able to get started the first few days I probably ate a pound of bacon, but this is what satisfied me and keep me on the diet. A lot of people had a lot to say about all the fat, but I lost 100 pounds and I know the extra weight was really bad for me! The extra food choices helped along with being able to eat all I wanted. It seems like after several days you don't want as much to eat maybe then you could change to Stillman’s, if you watch your carbs with Adkins you will be in ketosis with either diet.

Thanks heyjupiter for your info, I lost slow on Atkins when others would lose fast. I was hoping the the Stillman's would help me lose faster, I had to stay on the induction diet to lose also, I stayed on it for over a year. But at least I lost, other diets I did not lose at all. I am very excited to hear about the Stillman's Diet and also Stillman's Repetition Diets on the day's that I am really busy I think I will do one of them. This is the first time I have heard of this diet. I am really surprised because I thought I had been on every diet there was. Maybe I have found the best one for me!

Down 2 today!

Jen, I can relate so much... It's almost like you ripped the words right out of my mouth... I have a hard time sticking to stillman's, too. I like strict diet plans, but I guess my subconciousness gets scared of what I can do to my body again, so I end up binging every time... I don't have a good advice for you. All I can say is that heyjupiter made an excellent point. Every body is different! You should find what works for you. If you feel like stillmans' is too restrictive for you, find something else. There are lots of low-carb diet plans out there, not just atkins. But if you think Atkins might work for you, try it. You never know until you try. I have to warn you though: if you want quick results then I doubt atkins is a diet plan for you. I've tried atkins several times. I didn't lose much weight even on induction, even though I followed the plan to the "T". And I think I know why: 1). my metabolism is too slow after so many years of struggling with an eating disorder 2). I was simply overeating on allowed foods. See, the problem with us, people who have struggled/struggle with EDs, is that most of not-so-restrictive diet plans don't work for us the same way they work for 'normal' people. The thing is, it's not really about wether it's high-fat or low-fat or even high-carb or low-carb. In the end of the day, it all comes down to calories. If you eat more then you burn you will gain. It's as simple as that. There is something, however, that Blood_Sugar_101 calls 'metabolic magic', that makes people lose weight during the first weeks of low-carbing despite the fact that they don't really restrict calories. But from my expirience it only applies to healthy people with healthy metabolisms and only for the first weeks of low-carbing. If you like me have a screwed up metabolism and are not new to the low-carb world, then I think it's better to not expect miracles from atkins. I had to high expactations when I started atkins for the first time and ended up dissapointed and depressed. I felt like it weasn't fair that I worked so hard for several weeks and only lost a couple of pounds.
Besides whatever diet plan I'm fallowing I tend to overeat on allowed foods, which of course results in zero weight loss. Like I said it all comes down to calories. The reason why stillman's works for so many people is that they don't feel hungry because of deep ketosis and restrict their calories without even thinking about it. In addition to that in absence of dietary fat the body has no choice but to turn to body fat for fuel. But of course there will be no weight loss if you overeat, since the body will get all the calories from food.

My point is it doesn't really matter what diet plan your fallowing. You will lose if you burn more than you eat and vice versa. So if you're ok with atkins and don't feel that it's too restrictive for you, then go for it! But be ready to intentionally cut down on calories.

Sorry for the vent, i just can relate so much to everything you 'say'... I'm not completely recovered from my ED and I'm also tired of constantly thinking about food and weight etc.

PM me if you wanna talk or anything... And keep us updated, ok?

Check out the JUDDD, Johnsons up day down day. I really do recomend trying stillmans for at least 1 week -no cheats. Then do alternate days of JUDDD- updays atkins, low days stillmans, or whatever.

Bump up the exercise, i know it is hard, but jsut think what can happen if you go at it hard core for 1 week, i bet you will drop, and you will be pleased as punch!

Jen,
I really do think its all about finding what works for you...I know that out on the main boards, it is stressed to follow a certain plan to a "T", but that doesn't work for everybody. I am doing mostly Stillman's, but I do have days where I'll eat something that is a little higher in fat, and I haven't given up my shakes (which are low carb/low fat). And if you look at the stats of many of the people here in the Stillman's forum, they don't say strictly "Stillman's". Many people combine different WOE, or modify Stillman's to their own liking. This WOE is so restricting, I figure that a little tweaking here and there isn't going to hurt me in the long run, as long as I continue to lose, and it helps me to stay on plan. You may want to try one plan to start out with and see if it works for you, and then start tweaking. That's what I did, and that's how I figured out that Atkin's wasn't going to work for me beyond induction. I know a lot of people say that Stillman's is so restrictive, but for me, I have set foods that I can eat, and that's all I eat. It makes it easy b/c I don't have to worry about so many choices. Good Luck with whatever you choose!

Wow, thank you all so much for your kind words, ideas and encouragement, I think I want to stick to low carbing now just so I can hang out with you guys on this board lol
I am going to do atkins for a few days till I lose my hunger then throw in some stillman’s days when I’m ready and just play with the two to see what feels right for me, I’m also going to commit to exercising 5 days a week which if I’m tough with myself I will stick to. I’ll also check out the JUDD thread sounds very interesting.
Longstocking I feel for you on the recovering from an eating disorder and trying to lose weight all at the same time. It’s so confusing for the brain to “get” that you are trying to lose weight for good reasons and not for the unhealthy reasons which have plagued us in the past if that makes sense. I also had body dysmorphic disorder for 10 years which revolved around the issue of my weight as well as my face so this issue is as big as it can get in my life. I’m really trying to focus on getting fit which I am hoping will reduce lesson my obsessiveness with appearance. One day we can win this battle with weight/food etc) others have beaten these issues so we can too.
Thanks for putting a smile back on my face
Jen

Howdy ladies...

You probably get asked this a million times, but can I jump on board? My weight is out of control after 4-5 years of keeping it nearly in check. I want to try something that will kick my butt!
Am I understand that you do QWL first, and then on to the other Stillman plans?

Sure you're welcome to jump om board, Mickey!

Yes, in theory QWL is not supposed to be a permanent WOE. Dr Stillman recommended that you get to your goal weight first by going on the QWL diet. Once you get to your goal weight then you go onto the “Inches-Off” diet to achieve the dimensions you desire. You can maintain your weigt with any WOE you like as long as it works for you, but as far as I remember Dr Stillman recommended a diet moderate in fats and carbs, something like South Beach.

Many of us here are also practicing cycling QWL or combing it with other low-carb diets, like atkins, VLC or JUDD. Experiment, find what works for you!

Good luck!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Stillman's program DEFINITELY works, but it's strenuous. I throw in 10-20 grms of carbohydrate (veggies) daily to make it more tolerable, but others are able to go with his VLC/ZC recommendation.

Good Luck,
