Supplements

Hello all,

I would like to know if there are any recommended supplements to take whilst doing Stillman's QWL? At the moment I am taking the following:
  • Women's multivitaminic (Premence)
  • 1 cap chromium picolinate (500mcg) for the metabolic resistance
  • 1 cap (500 mg) evening primrose oil (to help my PMDD)
  • 1 cap (50 mg) vitamin B6 (also for my PMDD)

Anything else you guys recommend? Do you guys take anything, particularly to increase your energy levels? I find it very hard to exercise without having the carb energy boost

Thanks,

Izzy

Since Stillman's diet is so limited, I think you should make sure that you get all essential vitamins and minerals from your supplements.

A simple multivitamin is not enough since it doesn't always contain 100 % of needed nutriens.

I would also take minerals. Stilman's diet is poor in menerals.
Calcium (1000 mg daily) very important if you're planning to do Stillman's long-term. Magnesium (about 500mg) helps with constipation and keto insomnia. Potassium is essential for your heart. No kidding, Potassium deficiency can lead to cardiac arrhythmia. Some suggest adding potassium chloride (table salt sunstitute) to your food instead of taking a supplement.

For higher energy I would suggest taking B family vitamins. The most essential for energy is B12. The best option in my opinion is taking them all in one pill (Multi B or other brands).

Also consider taking some fish oil or omega-3 fatty acids in capsules. Since Stillman's is low-fat it doesn't provide the most essential fats for the body. I've heard that taking fish oil is good for weight loss.

Vitamin C! You don't wanna get scurvy, do you? Seriously though, Stillman's diet gives you no Vitamin C ('cos you can only find it in plants). Most multivitamins provide only 60 mg of vitamin C, which might not be enough for you. I would suggest taking 500 mg daily in addition to your multivitamin. Don't be afraid to overdo it - it's really hard to overdose on vit. C (still possible though).

There are also other vitamins that you might wanna consider taking like vitamins A, E and D.

Of course, all depends on how long you're planning to stay on stillman's. If it's just a week, then even a simple multivitamin might be enough, but if it's longer then make sure you're getting all essential nutriens.

Here's what I'm taking:

Multivitamin (Vitrum)
Calcium (1000 mg)
Magnesium (350 - 700 mg)
Chromium
B family vitamins (Multi B)
Omega-3 capsules
Vitamin C (500 mg)

And since yesterday I add some sea salt to my food, that contains sodium and potassium.

Hope that helps

hi Longstocking ,

Thanks for the info, very useful!

One last question if you dont mind... at what time do you take your supplements? Everything in the morning? or split between breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I am already taking 4 pills in the morning and one before going to bed which I rather take alone, but i want to add the calcium and vitamin C, however id like to take those with lunch if possible as i am already taking too much with breakfast hehe

Thanks

izzy

It's better not to take all your supplements at the same time. Some of them may prevent the absorbation of the others. There's no need to take all of them with food though. For example vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin so it really doesn't matter when you take it. A multivitamin on the othar hand contains fat soluble vitamins (A, E, D) at it's better to take it with some fat. I take it with my breakfast when I have eggs.

Calsium and magnesium both have a calming effect, so I would suggest taking them p.m. (not necessary right before going to bed). Some people don't feel drowsy at all after taking them though, so it's up to you. If you take 1000 mg calcium daily then it's better to split this dosage into two.

B vitamins have an energizing effect, so it's better to take them a.m.

If you have more questions feel free to ask. I'm happy to help where i can .

I'm doing great, thanks! I'm in love with deep ketosis! Ketosis rocks, really! Absence of hunger is the best! And of course, I'm losing weight. My scale is broken, so I don't know exactly how much I lost. But I already see it in the morror that I lost even though I'm only on my fifth day on Stillman's (I was doing VLC before that).

14 pounds! Wow that's awesome! Gongrats!

cool, same here (Middle East)

My scale also gives me different readings every time but only for a hundred grams. I conveniently always pick whatever is the lowest weight, lol

Got it very cheap at Boots...

Well, mine was very expensive. And in my case different readings are like 10 pounds! Last time i weighed myself I was 40 pounds ligher! The scale is probably broken, but it's too late to take it back to the store now...
